Cant' join the offline game I'm creating?

Why am I failing to join an offline (internet connection is working as I’m able to post this) game I’m trying to create. Tried with different characters, both existing and new. Same “Failed to join game.” message. I CAN join online games. How is that possible?

Thank you for posting that. It did get the game to be playable. However, it does eliminate (no surprise) all the shared items. Personal stash was unaffected.

Does anyone know how to restore the shared stash items?

is that a hardcore char

No, just general basic characters. None of them had died, either.

You can’t restore them unless if you had a backed up version before they became corrupted.

What likely happened was your computer had a hard shutdown (force shutdown, power outage, pulled plug, etc.) while D2R was open with a character which causes that character and the relevant shared stash (softcore or hardcore depending on which type the character was) to become corrupt and unrecoverable.

It’s unfortunate but I’m not sure if it’s something Blizzard can “fix”, not that they would anyways. I’d recommend making frequent backups whether that be manually or using programs like D2RLaunch or D2R Backup Buddy (both made by Bonesy, well known D2R mod author) that automatically create backups at customizable intervals that you can restore in the case of corruption.

Maybe not fix, but largely mitigate with maintaining backup copies of character files until the game is properly shut down. I mean they could float the files in memory and make periodic saves to a new copy while keeping the original, then make the new copy the primary save and delete the old copy on successful game shutdown. Simple. I mean it’s kilobytes of data we’re talking about.

Oh, right… That would require a bit of work from Blizzard to make that happen… Nevermind.

Thank you. I’ll get one of those this weekend.
