i have a pally i’ve been trying to solo the game on. how do melee types beat diablo?
i’m level 25, i’ve got what i thought was pretty decent gear for that level. full sigon’s minus the armor, the armor i’ve got is a stealth runeword ancient armor. milabrega’s scepter. pally skill amulet with faster attack speed rings.
i just can’t stay in melee range of diablo without instantly dying, even with fire resist aura up.
Generally you need fire and lightning resist or alot of potions.
Secondly you should be higher level than 25.
I’m guessing the level 25 is the problem.
If you were level 30 it would be much less difficult.
just above his spawn location there is a church looking prop/decoration thing. if you position him just below the left or right walls of this prop, his red lightning shoots into the wall and doesnt hit you, even at melee range.
You need lightning up too, keep a emergency portal open for retrieving your body or escaping to re-up on potions. I’d probably ignore reviving my merc but at that lvl you should be able to afford it. They just usually die instantly to him and it feels like a waste to me.
Just keep chipping away at his health and hopefully you can get it done.
That weapon is kind of garbage, there are other easily obtainable options that will serve you better. As a zealer, it’s sort of… extra bad.
You want enough resists that you don’t need the resist auras to survive, so you can keep using damage auras.
How much life do you have? New players often focus on str and dex too much and neglect a healthy life bar. All the pots in the world won’t keep you alive if your max hp is too low.
Your merc will just die. And die. And die. Especially at level 25, you will need to do this without him.
High attack rating, lifesteal and a decent weapon. You die because you miss most of your zeal hits. Hit C and hover over the rating for diablo, it will tell you the %
You should easily be able to take him down if that’s the case. He typically is harder if you’re ranged (imo) than if you’re melee which is why a lot of ppl simply stay at close range.
I wouldn’t even focus on having a defensive aura activated. Just put on w/e offensive aura you prefer and go with that. If you really need a defensive aura, I would suggest Holy Freeze (even thought it’s not considered defensive). Buy a lot of potions and just go ham.
Do not stick inside of his abilities longer than you have to and run in circles if you have to whether it’s to dodge abilities or just to heal up. If you’re going to get hard-slapped, make sure it’s because he’s trying to melee you himself. Take your time and be patient, he is a boss and it only gets more difficult as you climb in difficulty.
for diablo , i think it’s the safest to stay at point blank range.
his red-lightning beam won’t touch you as long as you are right in front of him as near as possible.
for solo melee i simply take a bit of life leech and stay near him to avoid his red lightning.
i just move a little around him when he is about to cast his front firewall, but other than that i simply keep attacking to LL while being able to dodge his red lightning due to me being close range with him.
when he uses his red lightning , it doesn’t hit you if you are right next to him, at melee close range.
Just bash him while equipping a bit of LL , stay always close to him and it should be good enough.
There are many things that can change that.
But I could almost guarantee that if you were level 40 you would smoke him.
Im also fairly certain that you should be around level 30 or 31 if you progressed naturally and followed every quest and every area.
Once upon a time we leveled all the way to 90s in act 4.
i think i’m going to have to abandon this attempt with this pally. my spec is all over the place, but mostly zeal, resist fire, and holy fire aura. at this point i just want to kill diablo and get larzuk’s quest done so i can use the socketing on a piece of armor for my sorc’s merc.
I would suggest you stay away from the defensive aura’s. They tend to be for very niche builds usually with the aim to support your allies online. Melee characters already have it difficult enough late game in terms of dishing out dmg unless you have a good weapon.
Considering you’re just in normal mode, just level up a bit by doing act4 a couple of times, hopefully you find a better a weapon and continue on to act 5. Once you get in to NM and complete the Den of Evil, you should be able to reset your character again.
Your weapon is garbage. Most set items are only good with multiple pieces, and Milabrenga’s isn’t exactly a great set in the first place.
Use Concentration (until you get to 30) and a merc with Blessed Aim if you need the attack rating, and get a better weapon. If you are having trouble finding one, there are some cheap runewords that aren’t hard to make. Malice (ith el eth) in a 3 soc melee weapon is cheap and easy to get since some of the vendors sell 3 soc weapons. There are other options as well, if you can’t find anything and need to make something.
Your weapon sucks and your level is a bit low. What merc are you using?
The key to tanking Big D is good life leech that brings back decent damage, good resists and a good ‘to hit’ rating.
Mil’s Rod pumps out a whole 15-25 damage, your Sig’s set is giving you 10% LL but that only brings in 1-2 life per hit. When I took on D at that level my weapon was kicking out 40-60 (physical damage for leech, more elemental damage…found a very nice rare) per hit. After concentration that’s 64-96 damage per hit, leech is 6-10 per hit and 30-50 per zeal. This is low by later game standards but it keeps me alive for all things D unless he Lit storms me. During those I just needed a life pot, rejuve for emergencies.
You can probably shop a better weapon. Check the rares that drop and maybe gamble if you have the gold. Damage is what you are looking for, things like skills etc don’t matter if your damage is low.
You also need to hit a lot, so if you use Act 2 mercs the best option at this point is Blessed Aim. I personally use a Rouge and her Inner Site also really helps the ‘to hit’ rating, even against Big D.
Level up a bit, go run Meph.
It may be worth trading out the shield for a resists shield…Ancients Pledge or Rhyme.
I tried a holy fire aura paladin and while it was really cool in Normal. That was about it.
In nightmare and hell the aura does crap damage since the mobs have increased resist.
If I was fighting Diablo on that character it would be Charge forward Charge back.
If you just put one point in charge skill it is a very good skill and can be used as a type of teleport almost. You can move around very rapidly with it. Also it usually doesn’t hit often since your level is lower and the skill is lower. But if you begin to rapidly use it it will kill well.
