With the game releasing without a ladder and with ladder runewords coming to non-ladder 4 months down the road, I probably won’t play ladder. I’ll just play casually until the new runewords drop a couple a months later.
I would participate it they increased character count though. Being limited to 20 is pretty awful.
We will four months later after the ladder season is over. That is why it won’t be nearly as bad as it originally was. Also they are not committed to having ladder only rune words or anything else ladder only for all ladders unless it is ladder themes that they plan on doing similar to D3’s seasonal themes.
Screw the economy and those who see it as the only reason to play. All new runewords should be ported to softcore after the ladder season, and those who’re making money off of D2r should be put out of business.
Ladder “season” is the reason! Once ladder season has ended there is no reason that patch 2.4 runewords can’t be ported to softcore, none. It’s a game not a reality!

Unless there is more character slots. Who have slots to play ladder? Ladder only rune words will only put more oil into fire. How many slots you need to delete to play each ladder to get those rune words…
If ladder have a separate 20 empty slots and we are allowed to have grace period to convert item from ladder to non-ladder, then I would welcome ladder only rune words. As of right now, ladder only rune words is a big NO for me.
Keep the new RWs ladder only, for the ladder they were introduced in, there is already little incentive to play it as is. The duration of ladder was shortened anyway, everyone will get them soon enough. I think it’s great that we get new RWs at all. hoping to see more low - mid tier ones to give more options, and bridge the gap to the godly endgame ones.
