either build you char to survive, or dont. every skilled hc player knows Cow portal is mega dangerous. you have a long way to go on your metamorphosis from a bad to a pro hc player. I’m one of the most wisdomous hc players there are, so dont ignore this advice.
When entering a portal/entrance/WP to a different area…
1: First the server sees you pop in at the location. Your character stands there vulnerable, staring at the sky.
2: Your computer begins loading the graphics data. Character still vulnerable, staring at the sky.
3: Once your computer has loaded the graphics data, then you can control your character.
I really wish they’d allow an option for a low compression or non-compressed installation of the game data, as it’d speed up loading times. It sucks that we must use unofficial methods to do this.
Or if your computer has the resources to do so… Pre-load the data for the area before entering the portal/entrance/waypoint. Hmm…
This is the plight of HC. Cow portal in fact any portal can be trapped or spawned on something nasty. I was running over the weekend and some guy opened a TP, trapped it and asked for help. I head down into a crowd of monsters and then let everyone else know it was trapped. Then I cleared it so it was safe.
Sorry for your loss, RIP. This won’t be the last time you lose a char to a trapped Portal.
You know it surprises me when people complain about unjust hardcore deaths. One should be prepared for that when they roll a HC character. It’s been part of the drill forever. You will most likely die to a disconnect or some kind of game bug issue. Go into it knowing that. And if you’re not prepared for it to happen, then hardcore is not for you. It’s just another level of RNG.
I always kind of get a little excited when a HC character dies because I love building characters. It’s another chance to go again and further improve my method.
Wouldn’t it be easier to make sure that monsters don’t spawn where the player spawns? After more than 20 years of the game’s existence? I find this incredibly amateurish. As if the HC mod only saw the light of day yesterday. And we tested it on some PTR server…
There is no such thing as a ‘‘pro HC player’’ or any skill involved at all for that matter. There is no skill in playing like a p.ssy in your save space where you know for sure nothing can happen to you until you basically outgear the game, and your little chicken macro ready.
At least SC players can ACTUALLY PLAY the game, take content under- or mediocre geared and ‘‘improve’’, as much as that term can even be applied to a 2D mousle clicker game that was developed in 1997.
I have a simple solution for you. You can play SC and roll the dice every 8 hours. If the even number is rolled, delete your character. And make a new one…
You’re right in that anyone starting to play HC has to accept that there is a chance that their character will die due to a bug or tech failure. But after more than 20 years of HC mod and D2 in general, it shouldn’t be high. The bugs should have been fixed for this mod a long time ago. But just the opposite. New ones are being created. Unstable server after the introduction of D2R. Lord The Seis spawn as someone wrote above. And others. Pure amateurishness. So what you write is true. But only partially. I would have expected more effort from the creators.
I mean… Or I could just play hardcore where it’s all automated?
This is actually much more a solution for you, though. You just play soft core, and then if you disconnect or get killed in a bad spawn, you can just keep playing and pretend it never happened. And if you die, in what you dub to be a legitimate death, you can delete your character. Go for it.
Ya happened to me too, last ladder. Wasn’t the king though, but one of the packs near him, BAM portal straight in the middle of them. Not much to be done in that situation, luckily it seems pretty rare.
Had a couple close calls with doll packs in front of the stairs to Baals throne as well.
I have no idea, probably, but like I said, it isn’t HC. It’s just a mode for those with Epeen issues. So they say BRUH IM HC, GET WITH THE REAL GAMERS. Meanwhile they have a town BO barb to loot their corpse or a shared stash filled with alternate gear to play with as soon as they die.
HC is for the mentally handicapped. Because they are too stupid to understand it isn’t hardcore.
