Blizz should drop a nuke on poe2.. drop a d2r expansion!

we all know the only real good blizz IP is d2

drop a fat expac… or at least a dope patch.

But that would force them into a commitment of actively supporting the game for at least a few years.

I wouldn’t mind an expansion, as long as it’s paid, that way those that want to stick with D2:R being a remaster can do so, and even those that do purchase it have ability to play non-2nd expansion, much like we can play non-LoD. Of course that means further separation an already small player base. Yeah, sure it’d spike for a bit with an expansion, but it would go right back down after those that crave constant content get bored with it.

I doubt it will ever happen.

HYPE for PoE2 is real too high

Even if they would released expansion with Act6, 3 missed quests in Act4, new class Cleric, tons of new uniques/sets/rws, rebalanced melee, rebalanced crafting, rebalanced synergies, rebalanced mercs, auto PvP matchmaking with arenas, customizable loot filters and etc etc etc only small group of ppl would be excited.

D2R is dead and abslolutely not worth any investments.

They cannot win this battle.

There is absolutely nothing Blizzard could do at this point. The torch is in an outstretched hand right now, just about to be passed on for the first time since 2000. Blizzard has already told us exactly their plans without actually saying it, by the amount of support and presence they give back to us.

In my opinion, Blizzard has neglected for way too long, so much that other companies have been trying to implement a better experience, and now we’re finally seeing one with zero fight from Blizzard (and there is no fight they could try to put up). They are much more interested in the live service model, MTX, zero depth, easy to implement a new boss with a couple new grassy areas and call it a $70 expansion, type mentality.

They’ve had their fun riding the coat tails of D1 and D2, and now it will finally be over. It’s bitter sweet, but I’m all here for it. We’ve all been waiting for something great for a really long time, and we’re finally going to see the real resolution to the Diablo franchise since D3 and D4 are just… you know, the animated early morning TV version of the thing we like.

I think the hype for POE2 is 100% deserved. If you know anything about that company and how they work, they deserve the attention they’ve been getting. I mean, people are over here on these forums essentially BEGGING for anything, a crumb, anything… and it’s always nothing. And this company is a multi-billion AAA corporation. So much stockholm syndrome, they treat us like this, and there’s people that still defend them. D2 has been the greatest for a long time, but it’s finally time.

Even tho I’m not really hyped for PoE 2 for now at least but I’m interested to try it, you speak truth here and it’s impossible to disagree.

There are definitely devs in Blizzard that would love to work on their best games as Warcraft 3 Reforged did get a 2.0 update and D2R is still an amazing remaster. The problem is this corpo mtx focused management of course since they merged with Activision they are just going down.

Kicking out entire RTS team, cancelling Overwatch 2 campaign or the new survival game is just a mess and I feel sorry for devs hard work that ends up in a trash can.

the thing is, poe2 is going to be brand new, and adding a little bit of content to d2:r wouldn’t be as exciting. lots of people have already given up on blizzard completely and even moreso in the diablo franchise with how it’s been going the last 10 years. there’s no denial they keep getting worse.

i’m not exactly super excited about poe2 myself, but i know it will be fun and i’ll probably like it more than i expect, and that’s a good thing. high expectations often turn into disappointment.

Even a D2R expansion wouldn’t even come close to competing with the volume of content and depth of PoE 2. That game has been in development for years, and was announced 6 years ago.

Not to mention PoE 2 is the first game in a long time that is actually trying to evolve the ARPG combat, with things like wasd movement option for twin stick shooter gameplay, directional blocking with shields and many other things that go beyond the usual point & click the genre was acommodated with. A D2R expansion would ultimately just be D2R with more stuff.

I think going into it with an open mind, and ready to be challenged is a good idea. I actually quit POE1 twice before it finally stuck. You have to put aside what you are expecting, and let the game be itself. Once things start to click, it’s a big domino effect. I’m starting to make content on YouTube, and really trying to call on all players from all realms to be an encouraging light for new players and veterans alike (not going to share unless anyone is actually interested).

I think it’s a great moment in time to be part of a new community that brings lots of people together with varied experience and tastes. I think we can start creating culture of voting with our time and dollars. Let’s see if this is a great game (like I think it is going to be) and reward them for the effort. We should be supporting developers that actually listen and talk (even face to face) with their fanbase. They are so transparent, it’s extremely refreshing.

That shouldn’t be how the world works.

PoE2 team is passionate to make a next-gen ARPG experience.
Hiring people to meet this criteria.

Diablo team is passionate about meeting stakeholder micro-transaction expectations.
Hiring people to meet this criteria.

Obviously the PoE2 team shouldn’t expect the micro-transaction profits of Blizzard’s Diablo IP.

Obviously the Diablo team shouldn’t expect the fanfare that PoE2 is getting.

Get back what you put in.

POE 1 is already taking me away from d2r. POE2 will be way too good. Hopefully its on console

if they add 2 Acts and revamp/rework stuff like
a) rare/craft prefix/suffix generation/possibilities (auras/+skills spawn on crafts perhaps?)
b) craft/cube recipes
c) new mercs in Acts 6 n 7
d) entice classic D2 LOD and current D2R players with loyalty bonus such as
i) D2R gets 70% off for new DLC expansion
ii) D2 LOD with keys on Bnet acct get 50% off for “Battle Chest” i.e D2R + DLC expansion

I feel like it would be hard to replicate the nuance of how well defined the morbidity of the afterlife is. Its unique in that aspect.

That’s true for any game. Still, they showed a LOT of concrete gameplay elements that we can already expect from the game. It’s difficult to not have some sort of expectations when so much has been shown already

Ironically PoE’s entire business model is mtx based, and it likely makes more than D4 in MTX sales given it’s f2p nature and how people tend to at the very least buy stash. It’s just that they made a game that is so good, people don’t mind the cash shop, whereas in D4 there’s no game and the cash shop ends up standing out a lot more.

Blizzard does not care about its fanbase anymore, forget it.

It will be, and you can pre-download before EA launch. Also, I believe it’s cross-platform, so you can play on console then take it over to PC, and play with others on different platforms. Pretty insane right? Didn’t they promise that in D4…?

I must be the rare D2 fan that was completely bored and underwhelmed by PoE1 and just rolled my eyes when I saw PoE2

That’s interesting. How would you consider the game underwhelming, if you don’t mind elaborating? It has incredible freedom in build diversity, complex crafting, and a large range of endgame activities. I used to play it pretty heavily and never got to all the content.

d2 has pvp, lld, ironmans… after resets group games where super common
even after resets finding pub games or games on discord or with multiplayer was fairly easy

poe1 almost NO ONE played together… no pvp, etc

it was a trade simulator at best

Honestly I hope they add zero new content, and frankly I wish they’d let me select which patch to play on so I could just lock in 2.3 and be happy with it.

I mean I was already playing D2 over PoE anyway, and PoE 2 looks like the exact same game with slightly better graphics, and annoying AF souls-rolls.

PoE was one of those ARPGS when you never even look at your screen unless it’s a boss because it’s just a bunch of health bars covering every inch of it and enemies might as well all be identical. And bosses are all of the one shot mechanic bullet hell variety that make you wonder why you even bothered with defensive stats.

PoE 1 was 1/4 spreadsheet, 1/4 bullet hell arcade game, 1/2 cashier sim. And the only thing that mattered about drops was how many Divines you could trade it for because odds were you were never going to get a drop that someone out there didn’t have a better option for trade due to the spreadsheet nature of it.

You need to REALLY like spamming and responding to autogenerated trade messages to enjoy PoE. Easily one of the ARPGs I found the least enjoyable.

I disliked the myrad levels of how skills work. First you need to find the skills that you want to use (some can be gotten as a reward, but not all). Then you need to find itamzz with the right sockets. And iirc skills had colour so not all sockets worked. And then there was interaction between skills so therefore it was important that the connections between the skill slots (which had to be the correct colour) were also correct.
In my opinion an absolut rubbish mechanics. It didn’t make ME go ‘oh, I wanna try this out and play around’ but instead go very :man_facepalming:

The (very complex) skill tree was interesting.

And then the content bloat. They constantly added stuff. But otoh it felt very insubstantial/trivial to me and otoh it made the game ever more complex and complicated. After a longer break it felt pretty impossible to get back since layers and layers of rubbish had been added.

All my personal opinion. YMMV. I’m working form memory, so some details might be off.
