there is no difference, but nostalgia is a hell of a drug for some people.
also, people saying that D2r is better than D4 (hell, even D3 in it’s current state) are just delusional, i’m sorry.
i mean, to each his own, but just admit that’s all personal preference, not some hard fact
Hows it delusion when the soundtrack is generic, their ability to name items is generic, their monsters are generic, their itemization is generic. Their open world is pointless. Lack of online features.
Did you play D2 during Battle Net 1.0? During the SOJ boom? If not then I understand how you can’t see why Diablo 4 is a piece of garbage in comparison.
D2’s peak > D4’s peak and that is actully hard fact.
that’s your personal opinion. Also, you would have to scrape pretty deep in the complaint barrel if your main complaint is regarding item names. Regarding itemization: it gets the job done ok, but some people are so autistic that each individual tree is more important than the forest as a whole, and they only care about their “phat loot”
I think ‘generic’ is actually a very good criticism.
A lot of top competitive ARPG players have all had the same complaint about most ARPGs in the past decade. They’re all sort of spiralling towards each other and they’re becoming less unique. You could chop footage from PoE, Last Epoch, D4 and D3 and a lot of people wouldn’t realise it was all from different games.
When I look at D4 nearly every aspect of it feels like a ‘safe’ design decision that has been done before. Like a team of executives thought “What do the cool kids like and what will appeal to the largest most-generic audience possible” That’s what we have now. Not a lot of risky design decisions.
Perfect example is open world. It’s been done to death ever since Skyrim did so well in mainstream audiences. Ubisoft shoehorned it in so much the phrase ‘open-world’ is almost an eye roll at this point.
That’s why not many people say it’s a ‘great’ game, it’s good, it’s just ‘fine’. No one really thinks D4 is game of the year or anything. It feels diluted, because it is. It’s like fast food. It’s good, its tasty, but it’s also common.
5 star restaurants usually have a theme, the décor is a certain way, the menu is niche. It’s not for everyone, but it’s 5 star.
McDonalds on the other hand, a lot more people might enjoy the food, but no one in their right mind would call it a 5 star experience.
I honestly see this as excuse because they are not inventing completely new thing. Their older game exists so nee game should have the best from older diablo games at release.
Haha, it has to be a modern gamer that has no baseline for ARPG or even gaming in general.
Asmongold blissfully plays D3/D4 without even realizing what kind of experience he missed out on with D2. It’s not his fault, but I find it sad that he will never understand D2 players perspective. He said he watched a lot of D2 footage and thought the end game was boring and not for him. I assume he’s watching people teleport around the pits and MFing.
The thing with D4 is that people can’t imagine how much better the game could be. It could be light years better. It could have exceeded their expectations and met ours.
Take this UE5 test concept for example. Imagine a true next gen Diablo game with the universe, soundtrack, and no flashy numbers. Imagine seeing the shamans and carvers from D2 that have the similar feel but expanded on.
Why doesn’t Blizzard try to deliver something breathtaking like that? They’re lucky they have the universe and lore that Blizzard North created, to me that’s what sells copies of the game. It doesn’t matter how they present their version of it.
yea d3 itemlization is not a great choice and hurt the game . right now the only shield user is a necro a caster but a barb is too dump to hold a shield i just dislike how limited d3 itemlization are , also tank barb or paladin base armor have the same armor value of a mage with 0 requirements is just dump
. except this the game have a lot of good stuff and a lot of content ,
This makes me wonder how many people paid the exorbitant pre-order price, played for a bit and then was like “eh, that was fun for a bit now I’m bored soooo back to a 20-year-old game that is more fun.” Also, the same people: you should have paid the price it’s like the price of 5 movie tickets, it’s well worth the value! That’s what I call getting tricked by a business.
Or you could wait to see if the game gets good, then purchase it if it does probably at a discount. Buying poor quality goods and services based on hype incentivizes the producer to keep producing that same poor quality.
Bought D2:R due to nostalgia on release, played 2 chars through Hell and then I was so annoyed by the outdated game mechanics I stopped and played other games instead.
How much time did that take you? I’m going to wager it was more than a month if you finished end game with both characters. Also consider, D2R is more than half the price of D4.
Definitely, I was never a hardcore D2 player, only casual.
I took tons of screenshots, looked at all the stuff that they improved.
And don’t get me wrong, I had tons of fun with my Sorc and Necro - and I would still like to play the game, but the immunities in Hell straight up sucked the fun out of the game for me.
That combined with the low droprates and the casual approach of me, it’s just not the game for me anymore.
I haven’t played D4 even tho I almost bought it due to the hype, but the more I know about the game the worse it gets.
D2 is the best Diablo game in the franchise, but if I had to choose one to play, it would be D4, because the gameplay suits me just better, even tho the loot and itemization is a lot worse in D4 compared to D2.
Why did the D4 devs put all this dumbass s*** onto their items? Simple > complex. Jesus christ guy.
Rings and Amulets should only have utility, and maybe some can have a rare offensive stat. For example it could be cool to see “Damage to demons” on an amulet in D2. But nothing over the top.
