Accidently deleted my character

Had a lvl 59 sorc accidently brain dead deleted when I pressed the red X on character screen assuming that it was an EXIT game button and didnt bother reading the message that pops up to make sure… Sent a ticket out to see if I would be able to get my character back but theyre not able to… Beware the stupid “X” on character screen. Just ESC to home.

It would be best if they added a character deleted graveyard to retrieve back before they expire to permanent deletion or have them ask for our bnet password or something…

Sucks…

Lmfao, I reamade it.

Its dontfeelbad01

Same thing happened to me
To be honest, the ‘X’-icon is not a deletion button (trash icon is), it is a closure icon and it also shouldnt be in stark contrast to other buttons and it also shouldnt be this easy to delete an account (mmorpgs usually ask for a pin for example) and the close game button also shouldnt be in the bottom left corner hidden somewhere unintuitively when I expect it in bottom center or top right corner and the deletion button also shouldn’t glow bright like it’s a normal thing to press it and maybe the confirmation window shouldn’t be displayed like a normal confirmation popup, but rather have a change of contrast/color to indicate the risk involved.

I’d even go as far as to say it’s ux whise an anti-pattern

How come nobody just hits the escape key anymore?

The game trains you to primarily use your mouse, so pressing escape requires a change in thought process.
Pressing escape also really doesn’t solve the obvious ux mistakes present.

hey i accidentally deleted my first d2r character after nearly getting to level 40, who cares it happens, im back to nearly level 80. best to just think you played on hardcore and your character died while fighting a horde of monsters.

It becomes problematic when you play the game exclusively in a group.

it is problematic for solo or group, not sure your point lol. again just treat it as a HC char that died, that happens in HC groups gasp! and like i’ve learned to do, use ALT-F4, you’re already using the keyboard for spell hotkeys, potions, opening inventory, etc…

I already know about this problem, and have still had to stop myself multiple times already from deleting my guy. That Red X is just so attention drawing cuz its the only red button on the page.

Always read confirmation windows. I’m sorry you couldn’t get her back. :slightly_frowning_face:

RIP. Hope you learned from it to not click a red X that clearly means delete character…

Lol… really? its just begging you to click it? Wake up. It clearly means Delete Character, it is right below the Char list and right below Create Character… but no, its a red X, gotta push that sucker like the Red button in the super car.

Well people rarely read warning windows popping up.

Solution could be introducing “DELETE” option that requires you to actually type delete before you can delete character just like it is in WoW.

Many games implemented that you hold the delete button for a few seconds.

This is going to keep happening as long as they keep using a “close” icon, which is what an X is.

A delete icon would be a trash can, or the word DELETE. This isn’t at all debatable.
