2.5 map system thoughts

Great news on 2.4.3, love the QOL with the new lobby system, it was really really needed!
I’m still awaiting to see if you have fixed WW as barbarian is one of my favorite champions to play “fingers crossed”.

What this game really needs is end game, something exiting dangerous and extremely hard, a challenge so to say.

As i see it, a map system wouldn’t actually require much of a hassle, not even the need of creating new areas as there is tons, and many of which we never actually get to play - mostly because it’s a rush to hell.

A map could easily consist of 10-20 different unique D2R areas, that could be changed on ladder seasons.
You spawn at the entrance of the map & dungeon - a map would have a level of 1-10, similar to PoE. Monster modifiers/dmg/hp goes up accordingly ofc to the level of the map, same with magic find, rune find and so fourth - where lvl 10 is supposed to BE challenging and perhaps only a few different builds would be able to do such high level maps.
This would not only make the end game, so much more fun - there would actually be something to do instead of running the same 3 bosses. It would also make it possible, to better find items, without having to be in an 8 player game, instead focusing on the right builds to kill these hardcore maps with tons of dmg, monster modifiers that is waiting there to kill you in a swing.

Just a few thoughts on 2.5 that i would love to see implemented, it wouldn’t require any new “areas” since there is so many we never really play through, and some people probably have barely been there in many years of playing.

Would love to hear other ideas towards such thing here.
Because there is really a lack of end game content in D2R, and we don’t have enough character slots to keep creating new toons

We do not need D2 mod ideas moving into the core game. There is no need for maps. There are plenty (and added in 2.4) lvl85 areas you can farm in this game.

If we’re talking small changes like added monster density or difficulty as an option when making games, sure. We don’t need maps filled with random monsters to slaughter – we already have that as part of the base game. If you wish to play that game, download PD2 or some other existing D2 mod that has something similar if that is your itch.

I agree with UncleFester, however I would like to add something… Any core end-game activity ideas people have for the game would be better suggested as part of a paid expansion.

Some people don’t like change, and people suddenly gravitating to some gauntlet type activity being forced upon them wouldn’t be a good thing… They need to at least have the option of choosing to buy the expansion. Those that want it can buy it and have a gauntlet killing blast or whatever endgame comes… Those that don’t can continue playing D2R classic/LoD as they’ve known it. (for the most part)

I love POe, played for 10 years, have a diamond supporter pack, 3 botw, private discussions with Bex and Chris

I love PD2 and all it’s improvements to the game

But I would hate Maps in D2R. It doesn’t fit the game

I would rather have a endgame mechanic that makes the current areas harder and more rewarding

With some rare ingredients that drop from time to time which allow you to open a gate to a boss

  • cube something in harrogath corner to face Bul Kathos revived by nilatak

  • cube something near the tainted glasses of act 4 to turn it into a portal that leads to Diablo 1 hell architecture map filled with sucubus and doom knights

  • cube something in town with at least 95% game cleared to turn all remaining monsters into clones of bosses (boss mod)

But there could also be endgame activities on top of that, stuff that doesn’t alter the game much while staying true to it

Having Natalya give you contracts to clear areas where empower monsters are gathering for an attack on a town makes total sense gameplay wise and with D2.

Having Anya personalize your gear to look different makes sense in a world where magical transmutation exists. Those who created the Unique items made them look different to have an Aesthetic value, you are that legendary hero now, you should too

There is also the expansion way of adding endgame content

  1. go back in the time of diablo 1 tristram through the memories of Aidan

  2. discover the areas during the travels between acts

  3. continu the journey of your hero up and through to the event of immortal

I would pay so much money just to have more playable content for D2R. But they don’t want money it seems

d2 needs an endgame. MFing and leveling is not endgame. Don’t even get me started on the terrible bm pvp with absorbs and bs.

There is not really thing challenging added in 2.4 what so ever, and often you end up doing the regular things, or doing travi runs or w/e but after doing 1000 trav runs in a week it gets boring, so have mephisto andy and so fourth already become, because that is where you start. I really disagree we need challenge, the reason why people leave the game is not builds or tp. It is because there is not enough content, the content is already created, and could then be build into a way to keep players playing instead of simply giving up of boredom.

Said it so many times just want labels on entrance/exits and clearly highlighted.
Would be nice if they gave names of shrines. Would be nice to see your party members from far away as well as your dead body or remove dead body all together which some may not agree. PvP will agree.

I hate hearing SC players say the game is easy.

I would love for more content like you suggested but

Of course it’s easy when nothing you do matters/has consequences.

Quite right. Hardcore is the only way.

I’ve had a bad season and lost 4 sorcs with a substantial amount of gear loss.

No excuses
No anger
Obviously a little frustrated
It builds character

But back on the saddle HC for life.

Besides, rehearing and levelling something new is 90% of the fun

BIS gear is whatever, sometimes you get it sometimes you don’t

HC players know this game the best anyways

Balance around SC and constant deaths is not balance

HC balance is true balance

Honestly just skimmed your OP. Because I don’t think it’s remotely probable that the D2R team add new content like bosses, map/portal systems, or acts.

New runewords are easy to make, QoL updates are easy, even stash tab stuff is easy.

Besides ease of doing it, it’s a matter of does this change the game too much? Adding runewords and rebalancing skills is nothing compared to new content like bosses and map generation portals. You’d be shifting the grind meta that is the core of D2 to some progressive difficulty map (for example)? It’s just over the line in my opinion.

I wouldn’t mind them testing it in a temporary season though!

Why are you talking to me about map system like if I was suggesting it when my post specifically said that I don’t wanna see maps in D2R

There are much better, simple and faithful ways to have challenging endgame content

Ahhh, I clicked the wrong reply button I think lol. I meant to direct that at OP!
