Wifi/Internet goes down while downloading a game/update

For the pasted 2 months or so I noticed every time there is a new update (COD) my wifi goes completely out and the internet is basically useless but the download is still occuring at around 18-22MBPS (i pay for 250MBPS but I know blizzard caps it out). Any help would be useful…

Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to reach out with that information. When your Internet goes down, regardless of the trigger, it means that your network drivers or network hardware crashed. While your Internet Service Provider ultimately may need to investigate and resolve the problem, we recommend focusing on things such as:

Note : We do not support play on mobile internet connections. However if this works, it indicates the issue is likely with the modem, router, or ISP.

If none of this helps, we’ll need you to get a copy of an MTR run while the issue happens. This might show us what exactly is crashing. Here are the steps:

  1. Download the tool from this page
  2. In the “Host” field, enter “us.patch.battle.net” (without quotes).
  3. Start the test and launch the Battle.net Desktop App. Ensure the Internet stops working while the winMTR tool is running.
  4. After recording data for about 5 minutes, click “export text” and save the winMTR file in an easy to find location.
  5. Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the winMTR. It’ll look like this:

I uninstalled then reinstalled the app and seems to be working back to normal now.

***Correction, it is back down as my COD cold war continued to download. It went a strong 6 minutes until my wifi and internet went back out… The second i stop the download, my wifi and internet immediately come back up.

This has been an issue for years. I’ve experienced this a few times and now it’s happening again… Seems like they’re just avoiding fixing their terrible launcher, which is 100% the issue here instead of ISPs or routers etc. I’m installing bocw and my internet cut out as I was typing this…

As far as i’m aware, there’s no real fix. At some point it just starts working again… at least did the last time.

If the internet connection goes down, this typically is due to a bandwidth or mitigation problem. It may be that one of the devices may not be able to handle the bandwidth or there’s a mitigation problem, in which this step may help to try adjusting some settings on the router.

Check for the following settings in the router and disable any that are enabled:
• QoS (Quality of Service)
• WMM (Wireless Multimedia)
• UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)

The settings for these can vary from depending on the device model. It’s not something that we help with directly because the settings and locations can vary. The router manufacturer or Internet Service Provider (if the router/modem was provided by them) can help look for these settings.

If you continue to experience issues, please include the WinMTR test requested.

Also as a side note, the Blizzard Application uses Bytes (MB/s), while the 250 mbps mentioned is in bits. Bytes is a unit of memory or storage that contains 8 bits. So 18-22MB/s that you see on the application is actually up to 176mbps.
