When clicking save button in save dialog, the dialog closes, but game is not saved. If I click Save game again, message appears saying there was an error while saving a game.
I have the same issue with both W1R and W2R
Same issue! And chapters, which you already finished, doesn`t save.
FYI, some of the files in the install are set to readonly.
Anyway I’d removing the readonly flag on the folder (and all children), and then try running as administrator to see if either are the culprit.
Thnak you, but that solves only mission saves (at least you can run levels now instead of nothing). Saving directly leads to the same error (and yes the path is clear like d:blizzard\games\warcraft2 and no cyrillic or any language except english in the path). And that constant pause at random, truly arggggg
I’ve got the same issue. I save the game but the save is not there. Maybe it has something to do with Windows version/language? I’m playing on Windows 11 PL.
Warcraft 2 Remastered is even worse. I can’t even click on the units, nothing works.
any progress on this topic? Blizzard is truly a shadow of it’s once glory
It can be due to location of the game folder. Saving files on some folders requires admin privileges. I would suggest you try these:
1.Run the game as administrator.
If this still doesnt work then try:
2.Reinstall the game to different location like “D:/War2”.
Same problem here. In Warcraft I Remastered there’s no global save nor manual save. In Warcraft II Remastered can’t even select units etc…
When I’m trying to run Warcraft I as admin from the desktop it says “couldn’t open file number (check filepaths.h): 246” but when I do this from the folder there’s an error in main menu “Lost connection to Battle.net. Please login to Battle.net and restart the client” (yes, of course I’m logged…)
Did you find some deсision?
Still not working, still no patch with fix… such disappointment…
they can not patch something that is not broken. the issue is in windows itself. you have to give the games complete access to your user account folder(windows user account folder).
saving works for me. i did notice a lack of cloud saves however. i can save on individual pcs and load my saves there but, if i switch pc, i have to start over. though i can go back to my old save on the old pc.
I’m having the same issue. Campaign progression doesn’t save and when I try to save in game it says “An error occured while trying to save”. I’ve tried to uninstall the game and install it again, but it didn’t help. My patch is 1.0.0.2148.
it is not a problem in the game itself. the problem is in windows. i am not sure that it affects all windows 10 or 11 pcs as i have barely tested it in windows 10 myself. though it is not present in windows 7 or 8.1.
Try to make a new windows profile (only with Latin letters) and give it admin privileges just to be sure. W1 saves are in C:\Users\Test\Saved Games\WarcraftRemastered.
If you did X mission before you found out save doesn’t work and you don’t want to do it again open GlobalSave.json and edit:
{“missionsCompleted”:{“orc”:X,“human”:X}}
it IS broken since this is a problem of specifically Warcraft 1 and 2 Remastered. If it was a Windows problem, no existing game would be able to create save games.
keep in mind that these games is remasters of very old games. newer games was built to work around these issues. these games was hastily made.
While they are at it. Save game feature desperately needs a QoL: auto-name saved games like most modern games do, i.e. auto-assign date, time, map name, race.
Further, rank saved games according to recency. It’s rare to see a game that does not have this.
i just tested it in windows 10(build 17134) and there is no issues in that build. that suggests that whatever issues you have is related to newer builds of windows. i am not really up to date on what changes microsoft did in later builds so, i can not answer what it was they broke.
