Starcraft on MacOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra).
I last played on battle.net with friends on June 28, 2020. The latest update to game version was installed that day, and the game played fine then.
I went to play today (July 1) and after clicking “Multiplayer” in the main menu of Starcraft and then choosing the Brood War expansion option (although that second part doesn’t seem to matter), the network selection page did not give any battle.net server options (e.g., I would choose US East), and “OK” was grayed out. There is no way past this screen. I can click on the option for LAN connection, but the Battle.net option isn’t available (I can see it, but I can’t select it).
I tried deleting/reinstalling Starcraft first, and when that did not work, I tried deleting/reinstalling the Battle.net app, which also did not work. Then I tried deleting/reinstalling the Battle.net app followed by Starcraft (opposite order as before). The results are all the same.
Also of note is that clicking on “Options” in Starcraft (where you would change things like sound volume, etc) makes the game lock up.
What is going on here? I don’t think it has anything to do with my internet connection, as I tried using a mobile hot-spot for internet and it didn’t change anything.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Still can’t figure it out. Found a thread in the SC:Remastered forum with nearly identical issues, but seemed to be solved by turning off ant-virus software. I am not running any anti-virus, however, so that’s out.
I don’t play SC 2 online, but checked to see if it was connecting to battle.net. All of the lobbies in SC2 showed up, so it seems to be an issue in SC1 only (?).
Here is a thread with nearly identical symptoms (one a Windows 7 machine…I’m on a Mac): https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/starcraft/t/cannot-open-settings-battle-net-cannot-play-lan-games/713
In the game’s main menu, only “Single Player”, “Intro”, and “Exit” seems to work. “Multiplayer” leads to a deadend trying to get to a network, and “Hotkeys”, “Options”, and “Credits” cause the screen to lock up. Again, this is nearly (if not) identical to the case in the thread I linked above, which is interesting because that was SC:Remastered on Windows and I am running “regular” Starcraft on macOS.
EDIT Again: I downloaded the PTR version of Starcraft (ver 1.23.4.8352), and it has the EXACT SAME behavior.
