[Main Thread] Can't launch the Battle.net App - DLL error

A required DLL could not be found. This notification appears everytime when im trying to open battle.net app on my laptop. I already tried to solve this problem, just by installing the newest Visual C++ (up to year 2022) and updating drivers of my graphics card. Still, the problem exists.

Same issue. Was working Monday, but as of today getting this error. Uninstall, re-install did not change. Deleted appdata and program data for both battle.net and blizzard reinstall. not working. Windows 7 Pro Latest updates and service pack.

exactly the same here. nothing was changed and suddenly on Monday it stopped working. Reinstalation, updates, etc did not work.

same here , game updated, now cant start battlenet, support is useless, all I want is a solution quickly. using windows 7 which allowed me in before the update, then I noticed 2 giga of disk reclamation nothing worked after

Open Regedit. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot]
ā€œDisableRootAutoUpdateā€=dword:00000000
Mine was on 1, I changed to 0
Reinstall update or it just should just work.
Nothing else worked for me except this.

same problem here, nothing seems to work
win 7 and battle.net 13434

@DomiX437 - Hi:

Have you tried to install the appropriate Win 7 patch : [Main Thread] Can't launch the Battle.net App - DLL error - #114 by Boubou-1741

I dont think it had to do with a windows update because it affected a lot of win 7 users myself included and my windows is so oout of date it doesnt eevn update anymore, no this is all blizzard

just reminding a few of the folks above , the workaround from plus FOUR where u open by SC2Switcher did work for me when nothing else did so if your trying to get on SC2 it may work for you, for WC3 users maybe check if there is a similar file WC3Switcher? I dont know I dont play WC3 , keep harassing blizzard to fix you all I highly doubt they want to lose player base over thisā€¦ Iā€™d like to think they still care about the people that play theyre games and buy their products gl all

i cant launch warzone

Open Regedit. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot]
ā€œDisableRootAutoUpdateā€=dword:00000000

This solved the problem on Windows 7 32 bit. Thanks!

I am on Windows 7 64 bit and this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot]

The ā€œAuthRootā€ is missing? Is that your experience?

maybe someone could help explain a work around for it?

Hi,

There is a different workaround for Windows 7; install the patch KB3004394 if you havenā€™t yet:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45633

Many have reported that it solves the problem on their system.

Best of luck with this !

I donā€™t have a real/bought copy of Win 7 so Idk what happens if I update itā€¦ Dunno if I wanna take any chances

Thanks, I have tried this and it produces the error:

ā€œUpdate is not applicable to your computerā€

May have to reinstall or try another OSā€¦

Hi,

Iā€™m sorry that the workaround didnā€™t work for you.

You may want to put in a ticket before reinstalling Windows or changing to another OSā€¦ to ensure itā€™s not something simple(r); you can start the process here: Blizzard Support - Contact Support . Youā€™ll need to provide your system configuration files. Do provide the info that you did try to install the Win 7 KB3994384 patch and that you got an error as well as details of any other troubleshooting you may have tried.

Also, Blizzard is collecting data on this issue and are requesting that you e-mail them Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App Logs; you can see details of the request here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/t/main-thread-cant-launch-the-battlenet-app-dll-error/21183/102

Best of luck with this.

Although I am familiar with the registry I am wary of making changes to it if I donā€™t know what said changes do, however, after more than a week without being able to log in and nothing but silence or generic responses from Blizzard I tried the registry change and it fixed my problem:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot]
ā€œDisableRootAutoUpdateā€=dword:00000000

Iā€™m running Win 10, 64 bit.
