Last update completely breaks wine compatibility

It is not confirmed that it is a bug in Wine.

I was probably too harsh saying “it is a bug with wine” its more that the current wine versions just aren’t compatible anymore. My point was to those pointing the fingers at blizzard

If the platform is not supported, then for the developer, its not an issue and therefore doesn’t warrant a fix from their side.

Apologies for coming in too hard!

Nearly lost around a week of sub, I know they don’t support Linux, but please do help, there are a lot of us on this post alone

You can get WoW to work using the work around of getting the files off a PC with Windows and transferring them to the deck(if you don’t already have them or an update happens). Then just add the direct exe to the game through steam with compatibility. I’ve been playing everyday still since the launcher has been down.

I was able to fresh install the Game using Battle.net on Lutris (not the World of Warcraft installer, the Battle.net installer). The launcher installer got to 100%, then stuck at 0% however I hit cancel and it finished installing anyway. At that point I installed World of Warcraft, and after a few minutes of required files I was able to log in and play.

This is using lutris-7.2.2 (the default from the installer) and no custom options. Hardware specs below for debugging.

OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64
Kernel: 6.0.0-1-MANJARO
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (32) @ 3.400GHz
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 6900 XT
Memory: 15606MiB / 64228MiB

Yep! You can keep them updated on your desktop and then copy them across  only useful if you have access to a desktop though.m, but very worthwhile if you can

I did a quick video on Steam Deck showing how to do this process (for those that prefer a visual guide). I also address the “can’t type in the login screen” issue on Steam Deck.

It will tide me over until we get this fixed

You’re the man! Thank you. I was going nuts on 9/16 trying to figure this out myself and it wasn’t until I saw your description update on the original Battle.net guide video that I knew there was a bigger problem. I’ll give this a try today!

+1 having this issue.

Unfortunately the first thing I tried was re-installing Bnet, then the whole wineprefix, so my game data is gone. Even with Agent7984.exe I can’t install Bnet Launcher again.

This is really frustrating as I have a day off today and I’ve been looking forward to playing a Starcraft campaign for weeks, and now I can’t :sob:

If you’re using Lutris, try my solution I posted a couple days ago. It still works for Lutris users.

Has anyone tried any of these remedies with D2R and got it working? My issue is that once I load D2R and get past the Blizzard into boot screen, it tells me that it’s been more than 30 days since my previous login and won’t let me proceed any further to the character selection screen. D2R does not have a physical username/password login screen such as Overwatch so I don’t know how to ‘restart’ the 30 day timer. It appears that D2R relies on bnet to authenticate your account. I’ve tried having Bnet up while loading into D2R but that has not done anything to fix the problem.

same issue Zorin OS 16.1

please Blizzard fix this. for such a small percentage this thread is quite big lmao.

how do i even get to this point if the lutris script cant create the battle.net files from scratch? there is nothing for me to navigate to when its stuck at 0%…

I too am affected by this on my steam deck. Was so awesome playing wow anywhere and now I cannot.
Would be nice if a fix came sometime soon.

Game is still playable. Just need to run the direct exe from your wine/steam compatibility. If you don’t have the files you get them from a Windows PC and bring them over to steam deck to boot. Just ignore launcher for now.

Looks like Agent.exe was updated to version 8012. Now it does not crash, but still won’t download anything - any attempt to update game is stuck indefinitely in “waiting for another update”.

Having the same issue, can install Bnet but can’t download games

Also having trouble with battle.net on Linux using Lutris. Installer stuck at 0%. Had to use some workarounds involving making an old agent.exe file immutable in order to get WoW Classic WOTLK to install.

Take this with a pinch of salt, but i saw this reply in a reddit post today, in response to this issue:

“There was a gm response that said they rolled out a small patch to block all Linux users from the update servers because of the recent ddos issues all originating on Linux machines”

Obviously its a reddit comment so don’t take to much away from it. Just the first I’ve heard of it
