Hangs at "Checking Versions" US West

Hey guys, I was thinking I got hacked, because I’m back from a D2 break, but it seems like everyone is having the issue “checking version”, and only for USwest. I was able to access my account but “checking version” can take a good amount of minutes before passing that stage, and it’s definitely not consistent.

I wait at “Checking Versions” for ~27 seconds, then cancel. It ends immediately. If you try at 20-25 seconds (or sooner) the screen “hangs” for a good amount of item (20 sec?), so might as well wait (and pray).

Wtf is going on? This has been happening to me too

Wut? EVERYONE is having the issue on West. The only thing they said is “Oh looks good cause we see login activity”… Not because “everything looks fine”… I doubt they have even looked into the issue, and honestly, I would imagine at this point NONE of the Blizz devs actually play their own games. They don’t even respond on other forums of media. TOTALLY QUIET ON THIS AND TOTTALLY IGNORED.

I never had an issue with West though?.. and some people can connect the West just fine but not East… so no… sorry but not everyone has been having the same issue which is whats making this so hard, i can connect to West fine, i dont get any hanging or error messages of any kind… so sorry you are still having issues… the Blizz support tickets only go so far, they definitely have been working on it though as certain regions ive noticed are working again (example here in Sydney) we can now get on just fine… where as NO ONE could get on before… so i can see that they have made little progress on it, but some communication on the forums would be nice… only way i got answers/help was through support tickets which is why i tell ppl to use them, the problem is though is that there are several different issues happening at once… its hard to pin point whos in what boat… but might not look like it but i can assure you some regions/ISPS are now having zero issues connecting… unfortunately for everybody else its just a waiting game!

Good luck

The issues with Australia were with the ISP or the overseas Internet connection (i.e. no access to BNet, regardless of realm)–not individual users connecting to USWest. Once the issue with the ISP (or whatever) was fixed, everyone could play once again. Currently, USWest has a well-documented log-in problem experienced by most people trying to access that realm–regardless of ISP or access method.

We will know a lot more in about a month, when the ladder resets. If everything works correctly, then we KNOW it was a server-side problem they were unable to identify or resolve.

That then makes one wonder about the competency of the staff maintaining the servers and their ability to fix problems that occur, both hardware and software–specifically, over the long term. It is reasonable to state there will be NO SUPPORT OVER THE LONG TERM–especially when the current employees are long gone…

Yeah and in the end even the issues with Australian ISP’s was a mystery :man_facepalming: lol… and its scary how long these issues are going for tbh… and still no news has been announced, for some this has been more than 30 days!

I agree, i think when the ladder resets things may become clearer… it is possible the increase of players has caused this too :man_shrugging: maybe… who knows…

It’s a worry because i doubt any of their newer games will survive 20+ years like Diablo 2 has, this game deserves more support…

Wed, 05 May, 10am to 10:30am:

Logged into BNet with no problems. Exited and rejoined–no problem. Hmmmm!!

Dropped some gems to mule to another account. Exited–and got the dreaded “Checking Versions” hang–again. Cycled through the other realms, retrying USWest after each one. Got back onto USWest after about 3 min. Muled gems. Decided to try the rest of the gems, including the completed ones. Dropped gems and exited game.

Tried to log back in, but was unable to do so for about 8-10 minutes. The mule game was gone when I was finally able to get back onto USWest. The loss is due to the failure of Activision/Blizzard to adequately maintain the D2/LOD servers and the software. This further confirms my belief paying additional amounts to them is a waste of money.

The problem still exists and has not yet been fixed.

Blizzard Support is an oxymoron

problem gotten worse. It takes more attempts than before to actually log in and blizz doesnt give a damn about it stupid

With ladder reset probably less than four weeks away, I am not surprised at their failure to do any more. The problem? They did nothing to even try to fix the problem.

Are they just trying to push old d2 Players away from the game? Hoping that we will play D2R instead?

Tuesday, 11 May. Got on USWest in the morning and mostly moved stuff around on mules on the same account. Exited game completely around 11am Chicago time.

Tried to get back on to USWest shortly after noon. After six attempts, I gave up. Blizzard/Activision are clearly attempting to discourage people from playing D2/LOD by failing to fix known problems that make game play extremely difficult–if not impossible.

I see no reason to spend more money on any of their products until such time as the existing products–which are still being sold–are reasonably playable again.

Why did they locked most of the thread related with us west servers?

  1. Because they are tracking the issue in one single thread where they put all those locked posts. They migrated the posts there.

Hey there,

We are tracking reports of problems with the US West connections on this thread. As soon as we have more information the thread will be updated.

Thank you.

  1. Making multiple new threads on the same topic at the same time is intentional spam and floods the forums. Doing so is grounds for forum penalties if a moderator wants to. Doing so on two separate forums by the same players is double plus ungood.

Stick to the main thread about the issue and add any additional concerns there.

Can we get a fix for US west?

Give it 2-3 weeks and there will be a new ladder season starting. If the problem then goes away, we know where the problem is–and why.

This must be the highlight of your life.

That is an interesting take Calipso69. I am a pretty normal person with lots of things to do.

I suppose I could say the highlight of your life is complaining about game servers or commenting on other posters.

That would not be fair though, would it?

Thursday, 20 May, about 2:10pm to 2:20pm.

Tried to join USWest. Could not get on. Other three realms were no big deal, but USWest always hung at “Connecting…” or “Checking Versions”.

Finally gave up after 15-20 tries.
