Diablo 2 US-EAST HARDDOWN

Why, for NO REASON, would I be under a temporary restriction? I have done nothing to earn this!!!

There’s a long list of prohibited behaviors that can trigger a restriction.

At this point though, it’s not known if that’s what it is. Support can look and let you know if you are.

Yes, please let me know WHY I am restricted. This does not bode well for Bilzzard’s release of D2R!

Support won’t be able to say why, only if you are or you aren’t.

Some good news though is that D2R will be on the modern Battlenet (legacy D2 is on the old Battlenet), so the temporary play restrictions won’t exist with D2R.

I understand that…but how you handle existing customers now, will determine sales in the future. How can I find out if I’m restricted?

Give me one sec. I’m going to hunt down an old post of mine so I copy and paste it.

Okay, here it is:

You know what’s hilarious is that the game spent so many years telling us the realms were down because we were trying to mule gear that when the realms were actually down and the game tried to tell me, I didn’t believe it.

There is definitely a problem in US East AND West for D2, East keeps telling me I have been disconnected (but it never actually connects at all) and West goes into a “checking versions” fatal loop any time I try it. This has been happening for 3 days now. Back up now, I was indeed “banned” for a period of a week or so. Do not understand this as I do not “mule” in the classic sense. I only drop an item to a different char on my one and only account when it is class specific.

Submitted a ticket and the specialist that was helping me with my ticked said that he , “Refreshed the account and should resolve my access issue to US East”, but still can’t connect. Reopened the ticket.

They have told us, repeatedly, they don’t guarantee support as it is no longer funded. This is given to us “AS-IS”. That’s why they call this a “Legacy” game. We are supposed to be grateful for what service we do have and the Bliz reps hands are tied beyond that. :frowning: Maybe things will change for the better now that J. Allen Brack has left Blizzard? IDK I doubt it since Activision still runs the place. lol

Also you have to look at how old this game is while being no longer in development and that it is still able to be played online. I realized this yesterday during a conversation with Leviathan. WOW I’m old. lol

Hey man. I looked up the “checking versions” step by step resolving and the first 3 steps didnt worked so I did the last step , which was uninstalling the game. Here’s the problem when I go to my battlenet account and look at my game history my updated keys for d2 and lod are there, but now it’s telling me it can’t be downloaded onto a Mac? I’ve been playing on my 2012 MacBook up until I just uninstalled and now it says I can only reinstall it for Windows please help! I would have never uninstalled it I knew this was going to happen and just played on us-west and hoped for it to resolve itself! Please help me!

There are several issues occurring at the same time for both PC users and Mac which are not necessarily related.

But, there are downloads provided at the following link to download a Mac version of D2/LOD and the Patch.

Note: As a 32-bit application, Diablo II will not run on MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later.

I suspect you are new to these forums. Searching around will show that temporary play restrictions is the most common cause of people not being able to connect. As far as USEast goes, if you can’t connect despite being patched up to 1.14D and running as an administrator, it’s very likely you are restricted.

Ever since the problem on Wednesday with USEast was resolved, I have had no issue connecting to USEast. USWest however has had ongoing problems for most players (getting stuck on Checking Versions).

Just to make a small distinction. The game and the service that runs it are are indeed out of development, meaning there won’t be changes, additions, improvements, etc to them.

However, the D2 servers are still maintained. But unfortunately, the current focus on D2R’s development has slowed maintenance of legacy D2 down.

It’s just me speculating, but I suspect the reason USWest has been borked for so long is due to a combination of the depth/requirements of the solution plus the focus on D2R. Along those same lines, I suspect the reason why USEast was fixed up quickly this past Wednesday was because the solution was a simple one that didn’t require developmental intervention. (Again, just speculating)

Just want to highlight what Lionheart said above for extra visibility in case people find this thread in a search.

The Mac version can be found in the support article that Lionhead linked above. (I’m not sure why the Mac version was removed from the main download page.)

But additionally, for Macs, support for D2 ended with version 10.14 (Mojave), meaning it’s not supported on 10.15 (Catalina) or later. D2 is a 32-bit application, and unfortunately Mac completely dropped all 32-bit support starting with Catalina.

Mine is from 2012 so it’s only 10.11.6 you think the link you sent will work then? Also thanks for the reply.

It should be installable and launchable.

The download keeps bringing up this strange launcher called Swf&flv player. Idk what’s going on. I have the keys in my account but it won’t download even when I put the disks in it just spits all three disks back out and does nothing.

I don’t know anything about Mac or the install package for them. You may have to contact Support for assistance.

Ok thanks for the help.

I just want to add my experience to the chain. Playing on East, very old macbook pro (2011ish). Was having no issues until this past thursday. Been stuck on “checking versions” since then. No temp ban. Reinstalled the game, still the same problem. Have no idea what changed since thursday but this is obviously a similar problem impacting a number of people. Would love a suggestion on next steps please. I appreciate the help you all are offering.
