Call of Duty *NEW patch 4/22/2021* - Won't launch

COD Warzone won’t start SINCE version 1.36.1.8976727
Never had any issues before. Latest updates have no affect.
No response from Activision, and no customer number to call.
No courtesy of a reply in any form. Horrible.

Issue:
From battle.net: Clicking PLAY will go to LAUNCHING, then PLAYING NOW, then back to PLAY. There’s no indication of a failure.
Event Logs show a fault in ModernWarfare.exe (attached below) with a faulting module of ntdll.dll (see log below)
No crash logs in AppData/Local/Battle.net/Errors
Logs in AppData/Local/Battle.net/Log shown below with no indication of a failure.

Suspicion is CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor service, which is administered and I can’t change anything or any settings.

Notes: Under Antivirus “security providers” in windows security, I have: CrowdStrike, MalwareBytes, and MS Defender (turned off).
SW: Windows 10 Home, 10.0.19041 Build 19041
HW: x64 Intel Core i9-9900K CPU @ 3.6 Ghz, 260 mhz 8 core, ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming motherboard, 32g RAM, RTX 2080 Ti, Samsung SSD970

Things I tried:

  • Turned off firewall in windows defender
  • Turned off MalwareBtyes
  • Added “Moden Warfare Launcher” and “ModernWarfare” execs to MalwareBytes explicitly
  • Was unable to turn off CrowdStrike Falcon
  • Restarted without early init (effectively turning off Crowdstrike service)
  • Turned off all services in msconfig (not including window’s services), restarting without the services
  • Scanned and Repaired
  • Reinstalled
  • Reinstalled Battle.net
  • Running modernwarfare.exe directly, and as admin
  • Updated Windows
  • Updated graphics drivers
  • Ran compatibility tests
  • Dism scan and checks
  • Ran svc system file checkers
  • Attempted to find contact for activision (HA!)
  • Attempted to get a response from activision via ticketing mechanism (double HAHA!)

Come on. Please fix this.

Also updated all drivers with driver easy pro. Nope.
Activision: Please address this issue.

Please raven fix this, still cant load warzone, i have tried everything

Not sure what changed - but mine started working again last night. I didn’t make any changes on my PC… Not helpful to those who are having the problem still.

Even I am facing the same issue.

I tried all and have red of people who have tried even more than all at obsesive, sick levels, and yet the problem have not been fixed, so you can imagine. Yet, those using citrix have solved the problem by closing it in most of the cases. Problem is that a shared *.dll, used by common programs, is causing a conflict between them and COD, which also uses the same *.dll. I personally think that Season 3 has a BIG compatibility problem, and I imagined that COD ModernWarefare would be put in an unplayable situation to force people buying Cold War, (which actually sucks).

Have you noticed some quick update or something? I had sort if this problem, which randomly was solved, long time ago and few times, but never; NEVER like is actually happening.

It’s been a huge problem. Activision / Blizzard. Please fix this. Now I can’t even start up Black Ops Cold War. It says “You can’t play Call of Duty Black Ops Cold war yet” WTF? Seriously? I was playing Cold war yesterday and now I can’t even play that? What a joke… come on guys… do some Beta testing

I know this is not exactly the good place to post as it would be a Raven or Activision thing to deal with as they’re responsible for the game, but come on Blizzard put some pressure on them too, this thing only appears on PC and that is done via YOUR launcher.

Also they don’t have propper way to post or complain forum style. Tickets ?? yeahh suuure that way it will be fixed in Season 5…

I’m sure i’m speaking in the wind anyway but this is going for a bit long now.

Like many above, I’ve tried all of the tips and tricks listed here and even elsewhere, have no AV installed, tried all exceptions possible, rebooted with only win services on, updated drivers, made repair, reinstalled etc etc…

All was working fine before Adler and new map update.
i keep hope that soon this issue will at least be recognized as something to addressed by the programmers…

I will still keep reading for next “maybe-fixes” that shows in this post and try my luck.

I got the issue yesterday in the afternoon. Today like magic, the game loaded and I entered a loop regarding an update that made the game close. There was no update and I enter a cycle of entering the game, being droped to the desktop to install the ghost update for 5x. After one hour, an update was applied and the game worked fine. I played for more than 1 hour. Hours later, the issue happened again and I can’t play the game. Played this game since day 1 without any similar issue. I don’t have any Citrix or Comodo like many players in this forum.

WZ and the Dota is the only game I play and I rarely play. It’s not like a drug like it used to. I have no problem uninstalling WZ and stop playing. My wish is that everyone uninstalls and stop supporting this wacked job game botched together.

I saw at least 2 small on MW today. I’m struggling with WZ, my Cold War was not affected by this issue. Reading the posts, seems that for unknown reasons and zero explanations from the vendor, a percentage of the PC players are being affected by this and others not.

Mine worked today for a couple of hours and stopped working with the same issue later. There were at least two 150 Mb updates that I noticed today for MW.

I have done all this installed twice now still same issue

I’ve played this game since launch and haven’t had issues starting the game until the Season 3 update. I’ve tried Scan and Repair, Uninstall/Reinstall, and have toggled off other programs via msconfig… Nothing has worked. I just keep seeing the Play Button loop through the various states: Play > Launching > Playing Now > Play. Pretty frustrating to say the least. Game works fine on my console, but I definitely prefer to play it on PC.

Cold War launches and plays just fine on the same PC, along with plenty of other games. It’s just Modern Warfare/Warzone that is having trouble.

Hoping this gets fixed soon because, if not, then I can’t see myself playing this game very often, if at all.

Of note, Crowdstrike Falcon Sensor also appears to be blocking ModernWarfare/Warzone from running.

If you have Citrix Workspace, uninstall it. Worked for me!

uh…damn. i remote in to citrix, but did a file search for anything citrix related and force deleted it all. and now my pc runs like crap. wtf do i do now

I have a similar issue. By trying to solve this, I FEEL LIKE MY PC LAGS EVEN MORE NOW. And still zero acknowledgement on this issue. Smh

Uninstalling Citrix Workspace fixed it for me too! Only since an update of Citrix Workspace i did previously have the older Citrix receiver and had no issues!
