I was a fool to buy this game. I bought it to play the campaign only. I played for 30 minutes before being hit with all these massive updates. As I live rural in Australia the only internet service is a satellite one and is capped at 200Gb peak/ 100Gb off peak (there is no unlimited for this service). I have to share this with others in my household so after 3 months I still cannot play because I cannot stop the update which mostly concerns multiplayer and I cannot play due to the internet service I have. It starts with a 620 ping before I do anything. Having a choice to make the update optional would solve the issue. I will never buy another Blizzard game again or recommend one to anyone.
Well, good thing I didn’t start downloading the 20GB (10GB on Beta Bnet launcher).
Thank you Frank and iambaddiee for trying to solve it even if it didn’t work in the end, you guys are doing more than the devs, and ofc the small fixes can have problems since you guys didn’t write the code for the game or are fully familiar with it’s structure.
Seems like each one of us has to do a 170GB backup somewhere once he’s done with reinstalling the game again…
No worries, i think the files he provided were configured from running the Beta version something I had not previously used until this evening.
I was able to get the game running on the beta version after the 20GB update but I cant promise this will work for everyone, personally I don’t want to run the beta launcher given how useless the “working” one is.
But if anyone is stuck and is trying to resolve as they physically can not download the 170GB again I am happy to try and help. Like you say if you keep a backup of the files if it messes up again you can just overwrite and jump back in following the original guide I created.
The game is a complete mess and there’s thousands of people trying to get on it this weekend because of that free version. The root of the issue is this stupid launcher and the way it configures the 4MB IDX files but like you say I have no idea of the structure and have only been TRYING to play this game a few days lol.

I join the discussion late! I had given up on the idea of playing call of duty again after this 170gb April 1 update … And my launcher was already up to date, so no luck. Before requesting a refund for the impossibility of doing 170go of “update”, I would like to better understand this possibility of replacement IDX? (Last hope ?)

After downloading the game 1st time (while i already had it) it gave me an error, replaced IDX files, still error, did scan and repair, 172gb update came again… went to friend, grabbed his whole game and copied to ssd, went to my pc and transferd files, still … 80gb update… finished downloading that again (im already growing a beard lager than gandalf) now i can finally play. Thx for who ever F*CKD the updating in this game, took me 4 days! gj

ARF! it doesnt works… after dl 120go, read your solution and dl 25go, and now game crash; checking files and new dl of 59go… i dl 204go total finally… hope that it works…

I get this too when i try to get onto multiplayer. Also seemed to have lost sound after trying to use the fix with copying in the idx files into my directory (worked in the sense that the 171GB update became 20GB). What is going on?!

The issue I was having when replacing the IDX files is it would give me different results even sometimes replacing the same files with themselves, the game is a mess.
My advice just to keep things simple is replace the game with your old copy if you can, if not download the thing again and store a back up if possible. Quite frankly it is junk and so is the way the launcher controls the updates etc. Forcing you on every occasion to download files you already have because of some corrupt files that total to 4MB, fed up look at this it is not logical. Also there seems to be so many different versions of the launcher and game in operation it makes testing real hard
If you are unable to download the game again then by all means fiddle and see if you can fix but otherwise it is less stressful just to press download and leave it. I have tried lots of different files with lots of different versions, ironically this version is more stable than the second copy I have on my other desktop and the copy my friend recently downloaded fresh also doesnt work without fiddling. So it seems that no matter what option to you go for there is a high chance it screws up!
Wish there was an easy fix for everyone but unfortunately not, @iambaddiee the IDX files also have corresponding data within the data0,1,2,3, etc files ( in some cases if you have past data 159 you can delete the 160,161, etc and it will force the 200mb update and I had success with this.
There is a lot of messing about so just try and keep safe with a spare working copy as it seems inevitable that this will happen again!

I finished downloading the game and now I’m greeted with error 6164, scan and repair don’t do anything and still not a single response from the support after 8 days… I’m losing patience…
Had the 171 gb “update”, tried out the fix you guys found out with the .idx files (it didn’t work but still, the effort you are putting into this crap is admirable. It doens’t mean much thank you, really) and the download size dropped to 26 gb. Once I was done i was able to launch my game, everything was fine until I tried to open the multiplayer menu, a fatal error popped up and the game crashed. I replaced the old .idx files and got a 56 gb download instead of a 171 gb one. Once that download was done as well i wasn’t even able to reach the main menu that Dev error 6164 popped up and my game crashed again. i’ll try to download the whole thing from scratch and see how it goes. This thing is unbelievable, no customer service whatsoever, the admins are nowhere to be found, people are struggling with this and the only answer is “download the whole thing again”, seriously? Even Red Dead Redemption doesn’t weigh that much, this is disgusting

If you are starting from scratch delete every trace you can find of the game, uninstall that useless launcher as well then start completely from scratch, a lot of people were having issues where even after downloading the game again it would then request it again ( even with no fiddling of IDX files ) people seem to have varied results. Ultimately this launcher is junk and causing more problems than its worth

Hey Frank i used your fix and started downloading a bit of the 20gb, but seeing as it still didnt work for some people i went back and restored the old data which i was still at 112 GB left, will my game work or do i have to restart from scratch again.
Yeah I was planning on doing so but I think I’ll wait for a bit. I have just filled an issue report out to Activision.
As of now it doesn’t seem I have any more downloading issues (this joke of a client lets me launch the game) but i am welcomed with a black screen and a dev error right after that. I’ll see how it goes.
Seeing as it is redownloading the majority of the game I would like to believe it would work however I cant say for certain. Sorry. The way this launcher edits main files doing updates and then isnt able to “repair” after is nuts I have never seen anything like it.
If it doesn’t work after try and see if the beta launcher works, the guys files were configured using that. This whole thing is a bit of a mess but my advice at this stage is start clean and keep a backup. If you already have a backup and its not working overwrite everything and should put you in a position where you don’t need 170gb download
I don’t know if the IDX files will help here but I’m currently re-downloading the whole game. If the game works, I’ll upload my IDX files and see if anyone else has any luck with it. I’ll use mega.nz to upload the files, so it’s easier on everyone
