Played Shadowlands for a bit until I turned in a quest. Soon after, game froze but I could still move my player character around, sort of like server lag. It never fixed itself, and it was not my internet having issues so I decided to Alt + F4. Files ended up corrupted and everytime I try install/repair/scan the game, I get the error that something is broken and it starts an endless cycle of trying to repair itself until near the end where it cancels and restarts the same process all over again. I have tried a good amount of fixes and none have worked.
I’m having the SAME problem. I’ve tried everything and nothing is working
Also having same issue, happened after glitching out while a ghost, then following troubleshooting steps to “Scan and Repair” after being immediately d/c every time I would try to reconnect on toon.
Having similar issue. Enduring the endless scan/repair loop. Anyone find a solution?
Hey there friends,
I know this scan and repair loop is not a fun one to deal with and hope to help out. Many times this is caused by connection issues or corrupt files. I hope to help you out here and get back in playing.
First thing I would do here is clear out the indices folders.
Clear indices (click to expand)
- Exit the game.
- In the Blizzard Desktop Application, click Options and select Show in Explorer.
- Open the World of Warcraft folder.
- Open the Data folder.
- Delete the indices folder.
- Run the scan and repair.
Next, if still a problem, I would want to reset the Blizzard app. It can help if the app it’s self is causing the problem.
Reset Blizzard app (click to expand)
Perform Steps 1-5 here after that do not reinstall yet but follow these additional steps:
- Open file explorer/file manager
- Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA%
- Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 with %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
- Empty the recycle bin.
If these do not work, then the best thing may be to do a clean install of the game. I know that is not a great answer, as such, I will toss a few more connection based steps below. It could help to try them, if not please consider the clean install of the game.

I do hope this helps out my friends. Thanks for giving us a chance to work with you.
