Blizzard Forced Name Change and Support

I started playing WoW with this account in the Shadowlands expansion and made 5-7 characters with “silly” names. I have recently started playing the War Within expansion with the same revied characters and their names are getting reported by other players for being offensive. One of the characters was forced a name change, so I changed the name following Blizzard’s policies with an appropriate name. I started to play a different tune and got reported for the name. Instead of giving a forced name change they suspended my account for 24 hours. I reached out to Blizzard Support to file a ticket and received a generic, automated response about policies and guidelines and upholding the suspension. Where does that leave me? I have 6-7 characters that I have invested time and resources (real-life money, level boosts, etc.) into that I won’t be able to play anymore unless I pay $20 per tune for name changes or run the risk of breaking community guidelines leading to eventual perma-ban. I am more than willing to change all the character names, but I have to pay money or get suspensions to change names that I don’t find offensive. Blizzard Support not helping the players with solutions to minor problems like Forced Name changes is wrong.

Ah, I see. Probably not the best idea, but we all do things that are not so wise.

They may not even be offensive, just not appropriate for the game. People don’t have to be offended to realize a name breaks the naming rules.

Yep, that was the normal penalty for a first offense of the naming rules. They very very recently (last week) added a Silence to that as well.

Yes, that is the penalty for a second offense of the name policy.

They will help but it can be a bit unclear HOW to get help. What you need to do is self-report the rest of the inappropriate names. It can be done in a single ticket using the charname-server format so they can find them easily.

This is a thread on the WoW Customer Support forum discussing it. Looks like you can use the generic “not listed here” ticket path.

I may be wrong, but I believe this is one of the few times the Not Listed Here option would be the best as there isn’t a specific self-report ticket.

I’m sure Orlyia will correct me if I’m wrong though.

If you have questions or issues with it you can make your own thread on the CS forum asking if there are any changes to the self-report procedures.

After the help that I received from “MissCheetah” (thanks by the way) on how to approach my previous posted issue on this thread. I wrote a ticket to Blizzard asking if they could help me rename my 4 other alternate characters to respect their policies. I received another automated message about Blizzard guidelines and policies with no solution to my predicament on poorly named alternate characters. When I say no solution, I mean they don’t even address my message about renaming my other alts. The automated message talks about rules, community, and upholding the suspension (that was lifted 24 hours before their response). Now, I’m left with the choice of paying $20 dollars for each of their names or lengthier suspensions for playing them. I am a willing player of the community following policies and guidelines set by Blizzard. Accepting the suspensions for past regressions (Character names from Shadowlands Expansion), renaming characters for the community environment, and wanting to rename the others so I can continue to play other alternates and follow the rules. In the automated message by Blizzard Customer Service Team they say We’re here to help in any way we can.
Well clearly, there not. They can’t even respond to my problem. Guess I won’t be playing the other alts that I put resources into that I paid for.

Theres only automated replies for the most part. Try going to “account hacked” and submitting a ticket through there. I’ve found most issues can be solved if submitted that way while they’re regularly ignored otherwise.

Thanks for the advice.

You probably got an auto reply template :frowning:

If you have the option to re-open it for “need more help” then do so. Otherwise the CS forum is your best option. A hacked ticket is not what you need.

The CS forum serves as an Information Desk to help folks navigate the ticket system, explain policy, explain account services, etc. They are not GMs, but can help get your request to the right place.

There are Blues on staff during most of the day who can give info.

Go ahead and open a thread there, let them know you need help submitting a ticket to self-report some names so you can avoid penalties. You can also give them the ticket number of your last ticket!

They should let you know the best path.
