My Battle.net app icon is missing. It wasnt pinned, and i opened it using the windows 10 search function. I’ve tried pinning it, closing it, opening from the install location, unpinning it. Nothing i do seems to work.
Hey, Sheznet! This can happen from time to time, if it was an old version. It’s a pretty easy! Give these steps a try:
- Open the Blizzard Application and right click on the File Icon
- You should see a full list of games, then at the bottom Battle.net or Blizzard, right click on this and go to Properties.
- Under the Shortcut tab, click on Change Icon
- On the “Look for icons in this file,” Browse for the Blizzard Application location. By default, this should be under:
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Battle.net\Battle.net.exe
- Press Enter and you should see the Blizzard Icon from the list.
- Click OK, then Apply and OK again to save.
This should bring up the icon again for the Blizzard Application.
Unfortunately, this did not work. I tried it, and the icon changed within the properties window, but not on the actual taskbar.
Thanks for following up, Sheznet! Let’s try deleting the shortcut icon instead.
- Right click on the blank Battle.net icon. It should show the Blank Icon, Pin to Task Bar, then Close window.
- Click on this blank icon and it should prompt the message, “shortcut not found, delete?”
- Select Yes, then right click and close out of battle.net on the taskbar. Check to make sure it is not minimized, but it’s fully closed.
- Reopen the Application and check to see if it’s been changed on the task bar.
Thanks for the reply. I’ve since reopened battle.net, and the taskbar icon is now showing correctly without me having tried your additional steps. However, the icon in the windows search window is now showing without the icon? Is my computer haunted?
Sheznet,
The problem you’re running into is that Windows can’t identify the correct shortcut for the program in its registry. You can try the same workflow that Caterpepi mentioned (but pin the search menu program instead) If all else fails you can reinstall the app which should re associate the shortcut file with the application. Usually when we see this, something has broken the file association. If you had any recent unexpected computer crashes, that’s probably why it happened. If not, your best bets would be security applications. Try updating their definitions or reinstalling them if that fails.
I have a problem where I have the Battle.net shortcut but when I follow these steps I get hit with a message saying I’m using a out of date launcher.

One workaround appears to be to re-install Battle.Net and let it finish the installation completely before continuing. See this post for details.
Good luck with this issue.
