Chapter X
Germany. Bonn
Bonn Marriott Hotel
(notes from my diary)
We broke into the four of us on our Japanese tank “Toyota Land Cruiser Prado” in the city of Bonn. German gingerbread villages flashed by on the sides outside the windows. Small German villages looked more like houses from children’s books and fairy tales that everyone read and watched in childhood.
Lena and Vanessa completely opened the two rear “Toyota Land Cruiser Prado” and shouted something. Hello, dear city of Bonn. Hello, the sun that illuminates our path. There was an intermittent sound of Bonn… Bonn… Bonn… Everyone’s mood was on the rise. Vanessa took a Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body mirrorless camera out of her travel bag and, when she liked something, she took a picture. It could be a lonely, standing house or somewhere in the distance, standing people. She took a couple of pictures of German young children who were walking with their mothers. It was obvious that she wanted to take a more colorful picture. It is possible to find a suitable landscape or a cow walking alone, that is, she was looking for some kind of hype shot that would stand out against the general background with something special, so that it could possibly look like an extraction. It was clear that Vanessa takes pictures professionally, knows how to adjust the camera, looks for an angle, looks for a shadow, looks for a clear structure and lines. It was obvious that she wanted to take a photo that would stand out from everyone else with something special.
Lena explained to us in the car that we were all going to eat at the Bonn Marriott Hotel, that she had already been there and somehow stayed there with her parents. At this time, Stefan entered the name of the hotel into the search receiver-multimedia system DVD Pioneer, which lined up the path of the roadmap that we had to follow.
I was a co-pilot in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, raised both my hands up and said: "Stefan, we have to drive straight along the road map that RMS DVD Pioneer showed us all the time. Steph, all the time straight “Volkswagen Das Auto! go go go”!
Stefan in response tore his right hand off the steering wheel and gave a thumbs up and with his right hand showed several times that we should go straight and repeated: “Volkswagen Das Auto”. This expression “Volkswagen Das Auto” was the word parasite. It means that we were driving a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, but we called this car “Volkswagen”. The old Volkswagen Polo that Stefan’s mom drove and in which we robbed a bus station in the slums of Frankfurt.
Stefan at that time told us a funny situation that happened in the nightclub “Qubes Club Karlsruhe” Karlsruhe, when you left with Lena around 02:00 at night, then after that they went to the dance floor with Vanessa, Martin and Helga. Martin and Helga wriggled and twisted on the dance floor so that at some point both fell on the people standing next to them, dancing, and several more people fell with them.
Stefan was thinking about something, and then asked Vanessa: “What’s in Bonn, where’s the main hangout? Which night club will we go to in the evening?”.
Vanessa: “Well, I don’t know, we haven’t thought about it yet and looked at Lena…”.
Lena: "You can go “Bonn night club - Die Falle or Bonn night club - UNTERGRUND, BONN”.
Stefan: "We will arrive at the Bonn Marriott Hotel. We’ll get settled, and we’ll go out drinking in the evening. He raised his left hand up, clenched his fingers into a fist. He stretched out his little finger and thumb straight and tilted it to the side several times, which meant “a shot, a shot or a drink.”
Nikita: "Stefan, we have about 30 minutes to go. We’ll be there soon.
At that time, I was on my phone looking for some website of the city of Bonn and recommendations for tourists. We are not all tired a lot and, of course, we would like to get to the hotel faster. We didn’t need much rest, and then we could go somewhere to have fun and relax, and just found the local website of the city of Bonn.
Bonn is a city in Germany on the Rhine River in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is best known as the capital of Germany from 1949 to 1994. Bonn is famous for its magnificent Romanesque cathedral, interesting museums, as well as an old and very famous university. The city has a rich cultural life, is filled with many students and is a popular venue for major conferences.
One of the greatest German composers, Ludwig van Beethoven, was born in Bonn.
It is not so important whether you spend your vacation in the Bahamas or come for business, the procedure for self-check-in at the hotel is approximately the same everywhere. The difference most often lies in the width of the girl’s smile at the reception and the presence of a language barrier.
I also read some recommendations for tourists who were going to visit the city of Bonn.
I didn’t find anything special, but some tourists made notes that they were unhappy when they paid extra for the mini-bar and were charged 5 times more for regular drinks than they actually cost. I thought that when 3000 euros are on a bank card and a beloved woman is next to me, then I am ready to pay for a drink and 10 times more “No problem, chef with a mini-bar))”.
Procedure for checking in
- We approach the reception with a smile and a passport in our teeth.
- We take out the booking sheet and show it to the employee with the phrase “Check-in pliz”.
- The employee checks the data and asks for your passport.
- Give the passport (If necessary, then all members).
- The employee checks the data, then gives (or does not give) the passport. Sometimes the passport remains on the property until eviction (as collateral). In this case, you have every right to ask for your passport back and replace it with a copy or a cash deposit. You must not give your passport to anyone by law! Remember this. On the other hand, the possibility of losing it in another country is excluded … and this, you know, is a whole story.
- Then the key to your room is found and given to you, along the way you should tell when and at what time breakfast and other features of accommodation (for example, what is included in the price). Sometimes they don’t say it, then you can ask, but it’s better to ask what interests you specifically. Few people like to communicate in a foreign language as in their native language, even among hotel employees
- This is usually the end of the check-in process, but in some cases you may be asked to pay for accommodation at the time of check-in (it depends on the rules of the hotel).
Required documents
If you are traveling as part of a tour organized by a tour operator, most likely the hotel already has all the necessary information about you. All you need is to present an identity card (passport most often) at the reception.
If you are traveling on your own, then it’s scary only for the first time. Although you should not be afraid of settling in at all, because the staff of any hotel is obliged to do everything to ensure that you are settled and happy during your stay. Even if they don’t understand a single word that you will say, they will find a way to say that you only need to present 2 documents:
-
Your passport;
-
electronic reservation or voucher confirming information about the intention of your check-in.
Electronic booking is the printout that you receive after booking online on sites such as. On this piece of paper should be indicated: -
booking number (multi-digit code);
-
description of the room;
-
your first and last name and the number of vacationers (if you are not going to rest alone);
-
additional conditions (parking, meals, and so on).
In theory, all this information is already in the computer, but just in case you need to have it with you. Sometimes there are situations that you are given the wrong number for which you paid. That’s when you need to get a voucher and wave it in front of the receptionist, demanding a number of the desired category or higher. Remember - you are in charge of the hotel. The main thing is to behave culturally and not be rude. If your room was given to another by mistake, there is probably a hidden suite to fix such staff jambs.
Do not confuse booking with paying for a hotel. When you book on the booking website, you simply occupy your room and bear financial responsibility if you do not arrive within the specified time. But you make the payment itself upon arrival or upon check-out from the hotel (more often on departure).
In addition to these documents, you may need your bank card with which the reservation was made.
Between reception and check-in to the room
After the presentation of the documents, the kind administrator can offer you to fill out the questionnaire of the moving in. There you will need to provide all the basic information about yourself, for example, address, full name, citizenship, date of birth, phone number, insurance number and the name of the tour operator. In most European hotels, all this information is already received from your reservation, so you do not need to fill in anything extra at the entrance.
But, do not rush to escape to the room. When checking in, be sure to ask about what exactly is included in the payment. Many hotels offer tourists a free breakfast (or rather it is included in the price), as well as free service, for example, ironing shirts, washing things. It all depends on the class of the hotel. But if you don’t ask about it, then you may not be told.
Procedure for eviction
The eviction takes place in reverse order.
- Collect all the things in the room, close the door and go down to the reception.
- The phrase “checkout pliz” starts the eviction procedure.
- The employee climbs into the computer to see if you have debts and bills for additional services. After that, the question will immediately follow, and not whether you have emptied the bar in the room (everything there is 4 times more expensive than its price, so usually no one touches it). An affirmative answer will impose additional costs on you. It’s not worth lying, because the cleaner will definitely report what was drunk and maybe they will then withdraw money from you without your permission (although you can cheat on small things - just be prepared that you will be found out).
- When the amount is announced to you, it must match the one you booked. If something is stuck on top - make sure that you have used it. It is not uncommon to attribute services and consumption of goods to which you are not related. In this case, do not hesitate to threaten with heavenly punishments and feel free to call the manager. It helps a lot.
- Pay for the room and you are free!
It is better to check out a little earlier, so that in case of problems, you have time to solve them in a calm atmosphere.
