The whole of Shadowlands is a terrible lore/story setting, but it could have been made better by revealing Zovaal’s plan earlier.
After I saved Thrall and Baine, I wondered why I was even in the Shadowlands. Their problems didn’t matter to me.
His idea of remaking reality actually seemed appealing to me. The Shadowlands consisted of various hells excluding Ardenweald.
If Zovaal’s plan was revealed a bit earlier I could have cared. I know he says “Death comes for your world”, but I think that is too vague.
TLDR: Tell me a bad guy is going to destroy Azeroth before the last patch.

If Zovaal really just wanted to unite everyone together to fight off whatever Big Bad is coming… the smart thing would have been to just be “up front” about it at the beginning. Pretty sure folks would have gotten on board with that. The resolution of the Zovaal arc made zero sense and even managed to make everything that came before a little worse.
It takes true talent to fail at storytelling so hard you damage 20-year old games.

This is my issue here. The level of talent is absolutely insane to me because I feel like you have to try harder to damage 20 years of established lore and narrative than write a good or even neutral story. It’s more work to fail than it is to just…not.
The entire Jailer storyline was not done well, it was fumbled from the very beginning. Almost like it wasn’t planned and put together until right before the raid was released.

I want to engrave this on a plaque and have it mounted over the front doors at Blizzard HQ.

Give it 1-2 years and most won’t care and fewer will even remember who Zovaal even was.
Possibly 2+ years from now we will have people asking who handsome squidward is and how is he suddenly the bad guy when they pick to level up through Shadowlands.
I’m beginning to think the jailers final words were added to the script at the last minute as sort of a breadcrumb to lead us to the next expansion because it came out of nowhere and was out of character for what little character he had.

But those pectorals will STILL be burned into our retinas… and we’ll be wondering whose they were…
