Zombie Event Ended Early... Again

Recap of the Classic Wrath Pre-pacth Zombie Event: Blizzard announces the zombie event will come back a week after the pre-patch. Zero mention that it would be changed, and ofc everyone expects it to be exactly the same as it was before. Because why wouldn’t it be? Retail just had the Shadowlands prepatch with zombies attacking the capital cities, which was clearly inspired by the original Wrath zombie event so ofc the CLASSIC version of the zombie event would logically be exactly the same as the original.

Right…? WRONG

Blizzard secretly decided that, either after knowing how much people complained after the original zombie event or what happened after the shadowlands zombies, that it just wasn’t going to fly a third time. So off they went to “fix” the zombie event. They decided that, instead of making it that once you get killed by a zombie that you turn into a zombie… as common sense would dictate, that you just die instead and have to corpse run and get attacked by a zombie again and hope that you survive long enough to actually, finally turn into a zombie. Same with the NPCs. So if you infect a lvl 30 NPC as a lvl 70 zombie the NPC just dies on the second autoattack and doesn’t turn into a zombie.

So, of course, this made the zombie plague pretty ineffectual and unnoticeable by the general populace for the majority of the event. But of course this wasn’t enough for the Blizzard Classic Dev team.

So, they decided that the zombie event needed to be even SHORTER, last time it lasted about four days… this time it effectively lasted TWO days. They pretended that it was going to last a week but of course THAT couldn’t be allowed. Instead of not only nerfing the zombie event, making it almost pointless, they decided to ALSO cut it short, yet again… and then claimed that it was an accident and that it wasn’t meant to be cut short… again.

“But oh well, forget about that. Let’s move on. No one likes zombies anyways!” - Blizzard

They even made a whole Blue Post “explaining” what happened and how it would be “fixed” but they meant that only the quests and the Scourge invasion would be fixed. Not the zombies. Zombies are too toxic.

In summary: Blizzard doesn’t care to keep anything the same from Classic unless they think it will make them money, and will gladly change many MANY things to make sure that Classic is “fixed” to be the way that THEY think it should be.

The fact that Blizzard refuses to leave anything alone and is intentionally “fixing” so many aspects of Classic WoW to fit their new vision is extremely discouraging and is making me honestly consider quitting WoW… again. The zombie event is just an obvious symptom of a much larger problem… and unsurprisingly they’re “fixing” a lot of things in Wrath too.

the zombie event is a cluster F. it wasnt a good move to put it on when the prepatch was happening. it was a very good way to make new people not want to play classic

hell, i got the mount, uninstalled it and never looked back

Okay, this I didn’t know. Thank you for the info. I’ll delete this post if the zombie event comes back.

I’m trying to read the Blue post as we speak but… I don’t really get it… is the zombie event going to come back…? For how long?

You’re going to quit a game over because they canceled a temporary event? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

You know there’s other fun things to do, like PvP, if you like the zombie event. You can create just as much chaos in PvP servers with a group.

I’ve been waiting for this for years buddy. The fact that they would change so much about it speaks to a bigger problem. This is a symptom of a larger issue.

for those that don’t play classic/ are uninformed. the event was basically worse than the shadowlands one. you know those argent dawn priests they added in shadowlands? They added them here as well. But they can also one shot zombies of any level and the priests are literally everywhere

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the priests didn’t do that in the original event

og event was also cancelled early iirc cause of how disruptive it is to normal gameplay for folks

in the original event you had to actually TALK to the priests to get cured in this one they cleanse you from like 30 yards away. and no they didnt one shot anyone.

Okay and? I mean i like them to do another Legion Pre-Patch, but i’m not going to demand them to release it right this second or threaten them with quitting the game over 1 event.

Hear this out. Maybe the problem is with the event itself? I mean if Blizzard cuts it short twice now, and kind of nerfed the shadowlands one, don’t you think it’s a problem with the idea or execution of said idea they did, and not the people who dislike it?

I mean if people take an issue with Legion Pre-patch, i’m not going to dismiss them as “Oh those bunch of crybaby carebear whiners that hate fun, because i think fun is objective and not subjective and this that and the other things…” because that would just be stupid. I would try to understand what is the problem they have with it, that doesn’t mean i have to agree with them.

I think it’s fun, but i know it’s pretty disruptive, and i understand not everybody is cool with that. Your zombie events are no different from the Legion Pre-Patch.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re trying to say here… that they cancelled it on purpose again because people complaining? Or that the problem is the people complaining? If they didn’t think the event was a good idea then they shouldn’t have had it happen again. If they thought it was a good idea then they shouldn’t have nerfed it

they didn’t cut it short this time. the event is just bugged out rn. crates are still up and everything. it hasn’t been cured yet. it’s just that it’s not working.

What? Where? I’m in Orgimmar right now and there’s no crates. And what do you mean by

Well you’re free to re-read the comment slowly to try your best to understand, because i laid it out pretty simple.

Again, maybe the problem is with the event itself? And not the people complaining? Have you ever heard of the phrase “Don’t shoot the messenger”?..

They did it to try to promote their expansions for money, that’s typically why there’s pre-patches. I mean knowing other ideas they love to run into the ground for Retail, they typically stick to bad ideas if that means they can make money…

COUGH COUGH LOOTBOXES.

Well they nerfed it, so i’m guessing by your logic, you probably think Blizzard that they think it’s a bad idea.

…Oh. That’s actually worse.

And that might explain why i haven’t seen a zombie 2 days ago when i got done with my DK starting zone on Org.

Go to the valley of spirits. there are crates there for me. I would screenshot but server queue.

It’s not my responsibility to decipher your incomprehensible gibberish. It’s your responsibility to make it actually an intelligent string of info.

No. By all logic. It’s blatantly clear that unless they changed it by accident, that they intentionally made the zombie event much weaker. If that is the case then the ONLY logical conclusion is that they didn’t like it the way it originally was so they intentionally made it weaker. But they wanted to minimize backlash by not just removing it completely

Where exactly? Near the PvP vendor instance building? Officers quarters or whatever? Across the road from the big bonfire with guards near it. I’m standing exactly where there used to be crates but there’s nothing
