Ever since the change to make Zaralek Rares how they are now, the Caverns have become more and more abandoned except for one particular rare (looking at you Karokta). Even so its hard to find a group in group finder for this rare or ANY rare on a day that you are eligible to kill them.
People STILL go to Forbidden Reach an entire patch of content later. Zaralek wasn’t even half a patch old when people stopped going there. I don’t even think it was a month old before people stopped going in droves and only popped in to do Researchers.
Please learn from this mistake you made because it was an absolute terrible choice despite all the players telling you it was going to go south. Several players in General Discussion including myself and a few Council members were begging you to revert this change you made but you stood firm. Now Zaralek Caverns is pretty much dead in terms of rare farm, even on my server which is highly populated.
Edit due to a necrobump for people who don’t feel like reading through replies: this topic is about a change that was made to how rares work in the caverns. This change to rares happened not even 2 weeks after the caverns patch was released, way before Time Rifts and whatever content may follow. The change in question made rare loot reset bi-weekly so for example you killed a specific rare on Tuesday you would not be eligible for loot from that rare again until Friday.
And here I accidently made this in general discussion instead of the cc forums but you know what? Open discussion. Lets open the can of worms for everyone to participate cause I’m tired leaving all you guys out.
Forbidden Reach had a nice effort/reward ratio. Caverns should be where people are funneled for catch up gear at least in the 410s now that we’re in 10.1.5
I like Zaralek Cavern, not because of the junk content down there, but because there is just a butt ton of gathering nodes all close to eachother.
I agree with you, ZC sucks.
another wyrmrest accord person here, can confirm. our server is huge but I can only rally maybe one or two people at most to attempt any sort of rare. making the incentive “kill a rare every 3 days” messed everything up hardcore there’s no incentive to go there at all daily
They should have put this timeline event down in there, instead of cramming it under some bridge in the middle of an already cluttered area. get people down there, do the event, melt some rares, then be on their way.
I never cared about it the moment it came out. Once I got to chapter four of the campaign, I stopped caring even more, I only entered that zone for one reason and one reason alone, and that is for Abberus. Everything else, I don’t give two flying vulperas about.
They need to make stuff doable solo… group content already has a whole bunch of stuff to pug with greater rewards. ZM had it good with a pet that helped you solo stuff and the zone buffs.
I just dont understand why a week or two after the patch dropped why they were so upset with people farming rares that they made this change. Like you know people are going to farm rares when the majority of past patches and expansions with zones like this introduce rares that are meant to be farmed. They KNEW people would farm rares.
If the primary focus was Loamm niffen rep then why not add rep to rares? 50 Loamm Niffen rep per rare. Don’t destroy a patch before it has the chance to prove itself.
I am on a dead server, so it’s been dead for me since day 1. Same with Forbidden Reach. Nobody ever around to do rares with, so I never bothered with these zones ever. Seems like a waste of time making “content” if nobody can or wants to do it.
They should abandon the rare mob roulette and make the zones about the more interesting side content, like the digs.
There’s not really a good reason why we can’t have zones that focus a lot more on puzzle solving and exploration as well. Blizzard makes these big, intricately designed zones it just seems silly that they’re always a rare roulette, fly around and see nothing cheapie gear machine.
They could also just pick 3-4 characters from the story, new and old, and give them more expansive story arcs throughout the patch.
I would like to think I speak for everyone when I say the rare roulette is tired, boring, and just not fun.
I was never interested in a cave that the only aspect is to farm “rares” and do world quests. I think a majority of players will skip this sort of thing if it’s not mandatory. Korthia for example had impacts beyond the zone and so it was forced upon players to do it. I wouldn’t be caught dead in a grind zone for garbage mounts/pets or w/e Zalarek has to offer.
I’m so sorry this happens to you and many others on dead servers. I’m going to try to start a discussion revolving around this fact that this expac has been nothing but requiring groups for open world content like Rares and public events. This should not be happening and blizz should consider the servers registering as “low” or “new” populations when designing new things.
Blizz is in a weird state where they dont know how to reward players outside of m+/raid content anymore. Theyre afraid to put any kind of meaningful gear rewards in it because they dont want the super casuals, the people who dont set foot in m+/raid to gear up easily and then quit. But at the same time they cant put any non-gear reward because then more hardcore people will complain that its mandatory. So instead theyve seemed to have settled on just throwing it out there with no reason to engage with it and letting it die.
It absolutely is not fun and blizz keeps tacking on shiny things to keep people killing them. Why? Caverns is the perfect example of “if rares were not the primary objective then why make them or put drops on them?”
I’m trying to get the Surveyor’s coloration of armor from treasures and rares. All I have is treasures, because my entire map is full of rares and no one to kill them, not even in group finder.
