Zandalari Shamans?

Hey all,

Trying to come up with a character concept for a Zandalari shaman. A friend recommended to just make her a witch doctor, or even a loa priestess. I’m just not sure I want to rp a witch doctor, and she doesn’t really look much like a priestess. A google search and wowpedia doesn’t really seem to have much about Zandalari shamans, even though they can be the class. What is the reason for this anyway? It seems like other races have some pretty in-depth lore regarding their shamanism.

The closest thing trolls had to shaman before the Tauren were actually shadow hunters. So that’s a possibility.

First I would ask what spec you’ll be maiming.

Enhancement, I think…but this may change as I’m currently using this spec for leveling. Though, I may or may not completely correlate my actual spec/class to my rp character.

Nothing specific comes to mind, which is indeed odd. Granted that leaves room for your own interpretation of the class as well.

For example, perhaps the elemental power of your Shaman is derived from various Loa?

Pa’ku is the Loa of Winds, for example.
Gral is the Loa of Sea, so, Water.
Kimbul is said to have a fiery spirit, so, Fire.
Krag’wa is a Loa who uses his weight to crush foes, so, Earth.

Bwonsamdi can represent the power of decay.
Rezan could have represented the power of Spirit. Maybe Gonk instead? Or, heck, Zanza.

That’s a neat concept, of Loa corresponding to different elements. Here’s another alternative set.

Akunda is the Loa of Storms, so he’s a good contender for wind.

Krag’wa lives in a swamp, so he could be a good water Loa.

Torcali is a no-brainer for earth, imo.

Fire is actually trickier, so yeah, let’s go with Kimbul.

I thought about Akali for Air, but Pa’ku did seem a bit more obvious. That said, this also opens up the idea that different Loa could fulfill different elements. So, if for some reason a Zandalari Shaman fell out of favor with Torcali, Krag’wa could work for the Earth Element.

I was thinking along those lines too, there’s just nothing official about it. I do like your list, though I’d replace Krag’wa with Torcali.

My only gripe with this is that it seems a bit of stretch to project elemental fire on Kimbul. Kind of a shame there’s no fire loa, because the others work so well.

There’s Jan’alai, the Amani dragonhawk loa, who is seemingly worshipped by the Zandalari as a lesser loa based on the Zandalari calling upon all four Amani loa in a quest in Zul’Drak.

He’s not as prominent a Zandalari loa as Kimbul, but he’s a much better fit for fire.

Yeah, fire was the tricky one, especially trying to work off of the Loa that we’ve seen added with Zandalar as those seem to be the Loa more associated with the Zandalari specifically.

Kimbul just strikes me as the only one that really works well for Fire, and while that’s largely because his tablet states he has a, ‘fiery temper,’ part of me also makes the connection through my own bias in thinking he’s probably the best Loa for Prelates now that Rezan is gone. Which makes me think Paladins, and when I think Paladins and Horde it’s either Blood Knights or Sunwalkers, and when I get to Sunwalkers I think of An’she and how the Sun is arguably a source of fire…

It’s a strange but not unreasonable (in my opinion) train of thought.

That is an interesting connection, especially since Mayan culture (one of the main inspirations for the Zandalari), worshiped the sun as a god and much of their culture revolved around that.

Well, there’s another potential consideration. I mean, there are also Zandalari Druids, meaning that spells such as Sunfire are within their toolkit. I don’t think there’s anything connecting Kimbul to the Sun though. Well, other than the fact that all cats love to sunbathe.
