Yrel Speculation

So, Last we heard of Yrel she was kinda… going crazy. She got real zealous with the light and uhhhh well we all know the story.

But I wonder if she isn’t that evil. I mean, idk it’s hard to imagine that girl that we helped all throughout WoD turn into… what she is now.

I don’t think it’s hard at all! The Light seems to have a habit of turning traumatized people into religious zealots.

Look at the entire Scarlet Crusade. The Lightbound. Frankly most of humanity vs most other cultures in Azeroth up until the 4th war.

I forgot Y’rel was a thing.

Valid king

I mean, I guess. Idk I guess I got attached to her cause it was my first expac that I really played WoW. I started sorta at the end of MoP but didn’t really get into it until WoD, and then I remember being an alliance player questing with Yrel. I got attached. She was great. Nostalgia points.

Just kinda makes me sad I guess haha

She is what happens when the overton window shifts to the point that “lawful good” decides that “neutral” is too close to “evil.” There is storytelling potential. I still don’t trust Blizzard after Shadowlands to get this one right because it takes some real thinking beyond “dragons.”

Well considering our link to that timeline is not great as we saw in the Mag’har recruitment

Good chance she’s just super dead

A block of pure sodium metal in your sauna ain’t evil either, you still got to deal with it.

The pathway to the Maw (>_>;) is paved with good intentions. I believe that might fit Yrel’s actions on the matter.

Now whether if she ends up being right is another matter. If the void is an all encompassing evil entity, then he act may very well be the most logical to combat them.

We’ve seen many use elements like Fel that are Chaotic, but not inherently evil in the way the Void is depicted. The Forsaken ‘embrace the shadow’ and aren’t known for their warm and cuddliness and the Void Elves admit having to fight of malevolent urges.

So, in short, she may be correct in what she attempted, but not exactly ‘right’.

True. It could be a common case of… what’s the term… The Nuclear Option?

Considering how that might affect Void Elves and Forsaken, definitely true for them. Everyone else being Lightforged might not exactly be as bad.

Turalyon fought in the Thousand Years War and, becoming the first Lightforged Human, was able to fight that long against the Legion. Side note, how does ‘extra curricular activities’ with him and Alleria work out? >_>;;;;

It’s a metaphor for all beliefs. It’s not the religion themselves that are bad… But when you believe you are morally righteous anything you do can be justified as good. Beliefs are fine but they’re not something you should force on others. They are never truly right or wrong

Looks like it is road construction season again.

I am so sick of the traffic it causes.

But it’s a necessary evil

I have lost a lot of my love for this game due to the treatment of the characters that we grow attached to. In the last few expansions, we have either killed off, or witnessed characters experiencing extreme reversals of who they are and what they represent (Yrel as an example). Too many in such a short span of time, IMO. It has really ruined a lot of what drew me to WOW 17 years ago and what has kept me here ever since.

There was a time when I could not imagine leaving this game, but there are many different things that make WOW what it is (was) for me and much of that is gone now.

I spend most of my time in Classic WOW these days…something that I never would have imagined previously, but it fills the gap in lore, continuity and story that I miss in Retail WOW.

As long as this is the case, I will probably continue to play and dip my toes into Retail once in awhile just to see where things are, at least for now.

For those who are enjoying the game in it’s current form, I am happy for you. We all have different expectations and if the game meets those for you, I hope it will continue to do so.

My best to everyone on both sides of the fence.

She was blinded by the light. Now she’s revved up like a deuce. Another runner in the night

I’ve never been convinced that Mag’har perspective was entirely accurate.

They certainly believed they were the heroic last resistance to an evil light dictatorship sweeping their land. But doing the questline, I kept getting distracted by the fact that if they were wrong about just a few things they believed then suddenly they were just a paranoid cult who had been violently lashing out at the change and unification other clans were choosing.

The whole thing feels uncomfortably similar to skimming certain real-world political subreddits.

Hush, I created a waggler because you know, Yrel.

She did nothing wrong.
