Its not mandatory and you don’t need it for every aspect of the game.
That’s the point…so if you don’t pick Venthyr you aren’t terrible like some of these youtubers insinuate.
Exactly right. I understood perfectly. He wasn’t insulting you friend, don’t worry. He was saying to nerf this ability because it’s too strong, if people don’t take it then they would be considered bad. Which is true with how strong it is. Where are you lost?
You know, I can post youtubes here and my trust level is somewhere around -6000000. Why don’t you show us the youtuber that called you terrible for not picking Venthyr.
Imagine being so rustled over someone asking for a nerf to an OP ability so it doesn’t skew balance over the long term that you take his comments personally. IT ISN’T EVEN IN THE GAME YET. He didn’t call you or anyone else bad. It’s gonna be okay.
And I could care less if he called me terrible. Point is he’s adding to outrage culture with statements like that. And starting to define a “meta” before there is even a “meta.”
Imagine not understanding this view point.
I don’t want things nerfed in game simply because the 1%
Funny how you are defending it, yet, you aren’t in that 1% even remotely.
Tbh I don’t really think it’s that over exaggerated. Yes for the everyday player it’s not going to be that big of an issue, but any player aiming to do even +10s and certainly higher will be looking at going Venthyr.
It’s kind of the same reason as why Rogue’s Shroud is so strong that the last season affix had to mimic it, basically speaking it is meta defining.
Groups with Rogues can skip, and so too can groups with the Venthyr ability, at the least I can see it being a helpful substitute, but if your group doesn’t have a Rogue and one or two members don’t have the venthyr ability? You kind of have yourself a problem.
Sure there are ways around it, having a hybrid or the healer having it means you can just take the death penalty on the member/s who don’t have it, or if the members have a form of stealth they might be able to get around it, but it just ends up being a bit of a pain.
I mean, I’m in the Alpha and I’m not getting paid to play WoW, but whatever narrative fits your argument dude.
You do realize you have to have some passion for the game in order to become entrenched enough to actually wanna build a business model around it right? And even if they do get paid to do it, why does that make their opinion any less valid? How is someone whose managed to profit off of a hobby a bad thing?
Additionally, there’s difference in passion for the game itself and the world the game is set in. The people who care about aesthetics, about lore, about race choice or about conveniences all are passionate in one way or another, but the purpose of the Alpha is to try to get feedback on class changes, new systems and tackling balancing issues before the game itself goes live. For those two things, you want 2 groups. The first are the ones with in-depth knowledge of the game and who know how to play classes optimally and can show you if the class itself is under performing . The latter are youtubers and content creators who can advertise changes for you to get a wider feel on how your community reacts. A lot of the time, these two groups are one in the same.
Additionally, the warlock one requires set up. You need to go to the area you want to teleport, mark it and only then can you port to it later or you have to set up the portals and then use said portal which comes with a 2 minute debuff. This is a straight up movement ability. In fights where your covenant doesn’t matter, this should probably be the covenant of choice for Priests, Warlocks, Shamans and Paladins (Heck even traditionally quick classes like Hunters and druids could make use of it.)
Movement abilities are powerful dude. There’s a reason why they gutted movement talents between Legion and BFA.
So then…YOU and your entire raid can pick it and deal with it.
Why call others bad and or ask for it to be nerfed simply because of how you choose to play the game?
I’m defending it because it’s true. Why take a shield that you’ll never need because they can’t balance the game around it in a way that makes you need it, over a literal targeted blink. Why take a crimson vial/sprint macro from the Kyrian when you could literally teleport around.
I’m not going Venthyr because I’m a casual player, like I said, but this ability is way too strong to go live regardless of how you or I or he plays the game.
Preach isn’t even talking about the meta tho. He’s analyzing whether Blizzard is keeping the promise of being able to choose a covenant for RP reasons and not losing any QoL because of it. And getting Ice Block when you could have Heroic Leap is not keeping that promise.
“Metaslaves” existed all the way back to the dawn era of the game. It isn’t the youtubers, it just became more mainstream as guides ect have came out. Most people like to be competitive and be better than others so yes, a majority of people will want to be a “metaslave”
So they nerf Venthyr because Preach and the high end says its too OP.
Okay, what’s next then for everyone to pick? Night fae because of the movement increase and blink ability? Do we nerf that as well?
So basically, just delete the whole system or give us all the boring bland Kyrian ability because we don’t like anything fun.
Have you considered that players like Preach (and myself) want the Covenants to be balanced specifically because we don’t want them to be a trap choice?
Every Covenant should be good. If it’s the point where you’re making a bad choice by not picking Venthyr, then that Covenant is broken.
If needs be, then sure.
Trying to balance mobility vs defensive aspects was always going to be a stupid choice on Blizzards end.
