I remember the BFA event and remember having fun, I got a mount of out it, farmed some rares, got a full new set of xmog, had a chance at whatever the rares dropped and felt like I actually earned something for my time because I was able to put in enough time to work towards getting those rewards.
Now? Now we farm rares on a 20 minute set timer that lasts for 6 hours and 40 minutes with 2 rares dropping something unique, one being a mount that we can farm outside the event, and nothing other than the xmog and pet are guaranteed items we get to keep once the event is over.
Even than, there are only 2 items that we will almost never see the light of day again, the bag and the keepsake, and we have to farm all day for the keepsake and once every ~7 hours for the bag.
I really thought there would be items on the vendor that are unique, items like a pre-patch only mount, some unique pre-patch only xmog items, even the bag and keepsake I thought would be on the vendor both as BoP unique items and simply be able to be purchased once you spend enough time doing the event.
As it stands plenty of players are reporting X kills for the bag and getting nothing, I have 4 kills and 4 bags on the same character. You than get people who kill one rare and get a keepsake and than only come back for the bag. There are also players who get the bad and keepsake from their first kill, and than never come back because let’s face it, once you have those and your iLVL is high enough, the rest of the items are not even worth sticking around for.
It took me roughly 300 kills before I got a keepsake, I have been back half a dozen times since just to spend time with my friends, if they were not doing the event I would never have gone back.
TL;DR - The biggest issue with this pre-patch event is that the only two new items drop only from rares, the other issue is that the rares are on a set timer. You literally have zero reason to be there waiting to see what rare pops up and what new things there are, no new pets, no new xmog, no new mounts. You can kill one rare, head to the next and swap to an alt for 15 minutes and still not miss a beat, I for one do not call being AFK 95% of the time anything good and worth doing once you have what you came for.
The only good reason this event is even here is a way to very easily gear your alts for minimal, almost no effort at all. Tag the boss, wait until you can mount, than fly out to the next one, that’s about as easy as you can get to gear your characters.
