I basically have two things in mind about it.

It rely a LOT (maybe even too much) on your RL being fair and honest person that will distribute loot fairly and not just funnel it to his best friends first. It’s actually the biggest issue if you’re looking for a new guild and not raiding with friends for 15 years.

It puts less pressure on player. No math&addons calculating things with DKP, no saving to buy something specific, you just get items or not.
P.s. I wish there were more uber-chill guilds that just roll on stuff like it was in pugs in pre-patch
p.p.s. no gdkp in the dojo
If the loot council is fair and unbiased then loot council is a solid method of distributing loot.
If they are not, it is terrible.
For me, personal loot was the best thing to ever happen for raid loot. Raid leaders and officers could just focus on getting the team through the raid.
So much downtime spent on loot and loot disputes.

we just switched to a loot council of sorts using the “thatsmybis” website and rclootcouncil for stuff that didnt make people lists.
time will tell if it is better than DKP. I am personally opposed to LC but I am open minded
This discussion is going on in my guild right now (well not literally right now, but you know). The best ones I have been a part of had the officers plus 2 random per raid night (/roll to pick who or something of the sort.)
My vanilla classic guild started MC off with main spec roll, then ended with LC where the highest DPS got priority. The problem with that was the more loot they got, the better DPS they got and it just meant one player was being loaded with loot and if they didn’t need something then the other people got to roll on it. It was dumb and made me feel if I have no chance to win x item, why even come? I don’t care not winning it, but not even having a chance to win it turned me off, so I quit the guild. LC is good in theory, but it is bad in practice.

We have used it for TBC and haven’t had any problems as far as I can tell. It was a mix of thats my bis and RCLC, it made sure loot got spread around but also made sure we didn’t have 3-4 people sitting on 1 piece of tier and no bonuses.
The way I see it, gear will drop regardless and as long as people are getting pieces they can use without it being replaced within lockout while someone is missing that slot or going to dust, thats a win.
That is a terrible system and not really a true LC style lol.

i just want the stuff i need to complain i didnt get a chance to get or that the LC was bad to even DROP FOR ONCE!!! lol
A fair and transparent loot council is the best form of loot. If you’re afraid of loot councils you’re part of the problem.

It’s pretend items in a 14 year old version of a game. I really don’t care if my raid leader gives me loot or not, as long as we clear the content.
Its a good system if its fair.
If you notice a select few getting all of the big ticket items then its time to find a new guild.
Loot council, if fair to EVERYONE, then it is good. Unfortunately, loot councils aren’t always fair, particularly to “non-core” members.
It has been a problem in the past where ML / LC raids will give priority to a very select group of people (usually friends of the leadership / officers / eGFs).
DKP / EPGP is slightly better, as it gives people a way to hold the MLs accountable. That, of course, relies on point rewards are also fairly given. Guilds that give points for random things will see that the select group of people / eGFs are given high point values for stupid things and rewarded with loot unfairly.
Personal loot (if they remove restrictions) is by far a more fair loot system imo. Unfortunately, this is classic and so that doesn’t exist.
Loot council is the only way if progress if your focus.
If you’re just a dad guild getting together, let the guy who didnt even know where the zone is get the 1/100 drop trinket that your top warlocks been after for 15 years.
LC is amazing and probably the best if used properly. I still prefer ms > os+(performance)
Loot should be rolled out, but not everyone should be able to just roll based on their role but noone really does that. Using LC I did that in my last guild based on purely performance. But the other officer’s 100% used favoritism for friends. So really it just depends on if the council are good people or rats
Loot Council is nepotism with a fancy shaman-like name.
This stuff exists enough in real life for us to want to bring it into a video game, too

DKp relies on your raid members to not sit there and save dkp for one item and be gear poor on all other slots.
Also relies on them bidding on things actually good.
Doesn’t this snowball a bit? The highest DPS gets higher DPS through the items, and the others get left behind?

gdkp and loot councils just prove that the game community has changed, back in the day we could rely on honor system, need if you need, greed if you dont. but the toxic nature of more modern players coming into the mmo world scapes have destroyed honor between players.

You have an Italian American slur in your name, are you aware of this?
Performance isnt just dps.
