Your ideal expansion

Wanted to use this thread for people to create their ideal expansion using all other expansions. like PVE/PVP/LORE/Questing zones/Sytems you found fun etc.

example:

MoP’s -PVP, lots of abilities had tons of fun playing alts and pvp seemed very active everyone was queing RBGs etc.
Legion - PVE, The class quests/identity class order halls and Mage tower
Raiding-? honestly i never got to progress too much in raiding but well just go with WOTLK
WotLK- Lore, and community c’mon man Lich king
Just want to see what you guys think, ill add more sub divisions later drawing a blank right now .feel free to expand.

Let’s see… Excellent Story, Revival of Garrison Type System, TONs more dungeons and mega dungeons! More than 1 raid a patch, More tier sets, sets that actually fit the classes, maybe revert back to the old level 100s, cuz I miss being 120! Maybe Me’Dan isn’t Me’Danned! Revival of some old Plotthreads long abandoned back in classic! Maybe too the return of some old Epic Quests like the Scepter of the Shifting Sands and the Siege of the Under City in WOTLK! Oh and the Cape Quests for MOP so we can actually replay all of MOP!
Maybe expand on the Invasions introduced in the Legion Prepatch! Tons more world bosses Seriously, we could have so many! Maybe do something with poor forgotten Outland!? Alt-Friendly stuff at the beginning after one levels through, the Alts don’t have to do some portions! Crafting Questlines and Class Questchains like in Classic and older expansions! The Tailoring Questline in Legion was amazing, sad to see BFA might be the last to do Crafting Quest Chains, and wouldn’t it feel nice to do something class specific?
Maybe some more customization options and make some more playable races! Demons are free from Sargeras! Why not make them races? And give us Ogres and Vrykul already! Wow! I don’t remember the last time I said vrykul!
Maybe finish off the Old Gods, or introduce a Villain which doesn’t retcon literally everything done from the olden days! Maybe revive artefact weapons! There could be so much done! Make actually good story driven quest chains which feel important and coherent! Plot all the way through! Some Rep Grinds, but don’t make it feel to much like a chore. Release Catch-Up gear systems at the end of Patches instead of at the Beginning!
And lastly GIVE US THE FLIGHT MASTERS WHISTLE AGAIN! And start adding in another talent per expansion again, I miss that!
Sorry, this was long, but I stand by it! There’s so many things they could do! If Draenor is alternate, maybe there’s an Alternate Azeroth with a more Cruel Human Populous, ruled by some twisted individual?! Imagine getting Quests from Arator, or all those figures back in old lore?! There’s so many things they could do!

I just want to come back to Azeroth and fix all the messes that have been created over the years.

A return to something closer to legion class design. It just felt like your class could to more than what it does now.

Since I don’t think WoW has a lot of life left in it (Im sure it will be around for a while in some form), I would like 10.0 to be a culmination x-pack based on time travel that focuses on the best parts of WoW.

Horizontal gear progression that requires gathering fragments from raids, dungeons, and world content from previous x-packs.

Create a combined system of the MoP farm/garrison/class hall except you gather important lore characters from the games history

(Debatable opinion) bring back PVP templates

I appreciate someone seeking to hear others thoughts and opinions, share a common interest yknow.
I suppose what I would want is:

Raiding/Dungeon Loop of TLK/BC - So armor sets that drop from pieces, justice points for dungeons and valor points for raid with their corresponding vendors. So that way you’re always making some form of progress even if no gear drops for you in your content.

Lore - Mists of Pandaria quality, but with a Wrath of the Lich King connection to the world. What I mean is Mists of Pandaria had some of the greatest stories in WoW but it did feel all disconnected because it all had to do with that new mysterious land, so just something of that fidelity but for Azeroth as a whole or at least places we are familiar with or feel more of a connection to.

Player Identity of Legion - Return of focus around your character, not as a Champion of Azeroth, or Mawwalker. But simply as a renowned with some spec focus and diversity as well. Getting the Archmage title was really hype for me on my mage, I’ve wanted it for ages and it made me feel really connected to my character.

Questing competency of WoD - I’m unsure if anyone remembers, but when WoD first came out a lot of the community was hopeful. Because the early game/questing in WoD was Great, very story driven, interesting, as well as entertaining.

Late game/Casual content of Legion/Mists, they had the great ones. Class Mount unlocks (as the campaign was kind of an ongoing thing), Deaths of Chromie, Mage Tower, Archaelogy & other profession questlines, Argus with Invasion Points (Argus looked like vomit but gameplay wise was fun), Trove of the Thunder King & Timeless Isle (which I know they have tried to recreate numerous times I’m just listing it) & of course Challenge Mode Dungeons from Mists (they are doing so much with dungeons now since Mythic+, it would be great for this version to come back too). And also some solo scenarios, scenarios when used well/properly are always solo based. Nobody really liked them in Mists because they were just inferior dungeons, but as a solo dungeon or challenge or adventure they are appreciated.

Reputation Variety of TBC/Wrath/Mists - All reputations nowadays are just world quests, no variety. I miss my Netherdrakes, my Order of the Cloud Serpent, my Frenzyheart/Oracles, and even my tabard reps. I’m not saying they should do all these things, but I just want reputations to be earned differently across yknow different reputations.

PVP…just give it some attention again. Legion was the last time they got a Battleground (as Seething Shore was the prepatch to BFA), and while I do appreciate variety in map modes WSG/TP and AB/DWG, I even more so appreciate new Battleground styles such as Seething Shore and Silvershard Mines. It isn’t even difficult, what Blizzard has always been best at is taking other people’s ideas, stealing them and then improving them. So just continue to do that, look at other MMOs or other games where there is competition take a formula from them and run with it. PVPers need love.

Also it would be an absolute banger to get another progression .2 patch, so your Thundering Isles, Molten Fronts, Suramars where the story progression opens up more content and also you can actually see the changes in the zone as you continue.

^^^
Those are the basics for just a winning formula.

But after that its just more player identity, so more customization options. I’m glad we got more in BFA/Shadowlands but the more you can tweak your character the better. More playable races would be nice, but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if it wasn’t the case. I always advocate for new races when it makes sense, so without knowing the theme/concept of this dream expansion I wouldn’t be an advocate for any. Like Dark Iron Dwarves should have been a thing in Cataclysm, not BFA that was wierd. I want and love Taunka, but since they have been ignored since their rightful time to join in Wrath I wouldn’t just reach out for them without reason now.

Its been a while since we got a new class so that would be nice. And though I’ve wanted Necromancers more since Wrath, I will toss my chip in for Tinkers because they can be introduced pretty much whenever and wherever. Not to mention WoW desperately needs another mail wearing class, and another one that consistently uses guns/bows and Tinker would accomplish both those things.

And of course EVERGREEN PLAYER HOUSING I feel like WoW is the only MMO that is in current day that still doesn’t have housing. Just a system where you can stylize, decorate, customize and show off your personal accomplishments over your many years of Warcraft. You keep it away from the mistake of Garrisons by not making it attached to the expansion at all, its just something players can do or just ignore. No power progression, no systems or command tables, just a place to goof off with collectible pieces of furniture, architecture styles and designs and so on. I would go on to how to balance this all and make it engaging but my post has run on long enough, the key thing is to just make it so player housing is purely side content, do not connect it to the main game at all. It is purely for fun, that is it.

Cataclysm minus dragon soul

So, I’m gonna paint in some pretty broad strokes, here, and talk out of my backside~

PvE: We get a choice between following a ~cosmic plot!!!~ and a terrestrial one. Examples…
~Cosmic Plot: The, um, Void is being really mean, and you need to stop them or they’ll make everyone go to sleep forever. Sometimes violently.
~Terrestrial Plot: Gnolls, along with quilboar, harpies, murlocs, and centaurs have banded together and become a credible threat. Also, there’s always going to be at least one dragon being a Stupid Baby out there, and the Aspects (and Chromie) have put a hit out on them. Alsoalso, pirates are being annoying.
Gear from dungeons/raids/those tokens and currencies I don’t like is the same, just with a different skin and name.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
Questing: We also get Scenarios and stuff. Something like Island Expeditions! BLIZZARD WHY AREN’T YOU PAMPERING ME

PvP: The Alliance and Horde are still being petulant babies, but at least players can visit enemy territories (why) and the PvP instance zones/PvP activity in general gets handwaved as fringe groups getting into slapfights. It’s just that you start out at Unfriendly with your opposing faction and PvP activity can and will bring you further and further down, all the way to Hated. Smack a faction leader around, that’s an immediate Hated. Slug a questgiver, Hostile. Just the same, doing quests that are beneficial to everyone in the world would gradually bring you up to the bottom end of Neutral at best. Maybe there’s quests where you escort or guard diplomats. Or you attempt assassinations for fringe elements.
~I otherwise ain’t a PuhVeePer, so I can’t help ya there.

Lore: That aside, what’d make me truly happy would be a rewind to post-Classic/vanilla WoW, with everything as it was before the Cataclysm hit, just flyable. Broad Strokes Ahead!
~Visiting a previous expac’s dungeons/raids will either give you a “modern” version or a Timewalking version. So if you were to visit the Wailing Caverns without Timewalking into it you’d just see it not as terrifying as it is as a dungeon.
~Vashj’ir is there, but Nazjatar is still hidden. Scary!
~Archimonde’s skeleton is still hanging from Nordrassil… gross.
~Might need to fast-forward dwarf things to justify Dark Irons being playable, but I’d bite.
~Exodar still crashed, we still get our draenei pals. That’s all a “Coming Attractions” reel for a trip beyond the Dark Portal.
~Quel’Thalas is able to be explored. The majority of blood elves have joined the Horde, with the rest hanging out with Kael’thas, being the spooky ones from the RPG. Void elf lore would have to be tweaked a little bit.
~Northrend is there, but Icecrown is heavily defended – good luck seeing Prince Disenchanted! He’ll launch his invasion later. Death Knights are still there, they just decided to tell Arthas to go fly a kite.
~Kezan is there, and intact. Goblins are playing both sides of the field, with a Cartel from the RPG being picked out of a hat to explain why there are some in the Alliance.
~Kul Tiras and Zandalar? Yep, and the Kul Tirans are still a little upset about Daelin! The ~Zandalari are once again neutral. Adventuring Kul Tirans don’t give a rip about Daelin and are willing to contribute to the welfare of the world at large; playable Zandalari, samesies, just siding with the Horde because they’ve got trolls in them. Vulpera and Mechagnomes could also be explained easily enough (“Oh, they’re just curious!”).
~The Broken Isles? Yep. Playable Nightborne could have found a weak spot in their giant bubble and walked through it to explore the world around them. Playable Highmountain Tauren are just curious creachurs who’ve decided to go a-wandering. But the Tomb of Sargeras is still off-limits, yo.
~Dalaran is slowly being reconstructed… in Alterac.
~But Pandaria… that’s still shrouded by the mists. The Wandering Isle is still there, though! ~Monks are taught by the Wandering Isle Pandaren, who are playable.
~Demon Hunters are also present, but learned their stuff like in the RPG, through trial-and-error rituals and stuff.
~We could know where Duan Phen is from and can visit that place~
Retool the afterlife and keep us out of it.
~Maybe there’s “feral Titans” roaming the cosmos. I feel like the cosmos is vast enough that not everything got destroyed… so why not have some Titans awaken in far-off regions of the Great Dark Beyond, that didn’t have anyone to guide them, that are very much like some of the Ancient Greek Titans in personality.
~More references to the in-universe version of Hearthstone.
~“But Fastrada,” you might be saying, “How could all of this fit into one expansion pack?” To that, I say, “um idk like patch it gradually and stuff… lol”. Lore-ically speaking, maybe shipping lanes gradually open up so that your Zandalari priest guy who starts out in Generic Horde Starting Zone could visit home again. It’s silly, but it’d work.

~Stuff and locations from the RPG are canon, and in the game, because to be honest some of that was actually better than what we have now… Also, some stuff from the ~Hearthstone lore is cool, so could we use some of that, too? Even the dorky as hell Ethereal guy. And those characters from it are cool, like the Roame Family!

Systems: less command tables bro they were cool in WoD and even Legion but now could we not with them
~Player housing, Evergreen like Tausnor said.
~Profession quests, and specialties. Also, dyes.
~Last names!
~Names with apostrophes and hyphens!
~Names with spaces in them!

Other: uhh could i get uhh ogres and uhh furbolgs

MoP just with a different theme and slightly better tuned reps.

No thank you, I will wait for your addendums. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

They need a more localized threat. It can’t just be this super bad escalation where each one has to out bad the previous one. Pump the brakes a little lol.

this will oddly be a better thread for suggestion than community forums.

Add a new talent row, and do that for each new expansion.
Add one or two new abilities to each class, and do that for each new expansion.
Plotline written by someone who has a connection to the lore like Knaack or Metzen who is not named Danuser.
No borrowed power, new classes, or new races.
Get rid of WoW token.
Get rid of ‘fill-the-bar’ timesinks linked to player power (doing a lot better now than last year to be fair)
Get rid of Time-Gating

So, basically it’s a list of what’s never going to happen.

A world where we all get along and the elitism takes a hike.

It’s time for a new talent for sure…preferably a dps row. We haven’t had an authentic player power increase for a while.

They did add a few old signature abilities back to the game and updated some of our spells, but i still feel like temp-systems are where I get most of my power.

I’d like to see more race options and customizations as well (including voices, dances, emotes and druid forms) :two_hearts:

At this point I would be ok with them just fixing rows with dead talents on them or moving things around to make more sense. (looking at you Scent of Blood)

But yeah a new talent is most certainly due. And it’s not like the Bloat argument holds up anymore either. If they add 1 row per expansion, that’s like 3 new talent rows and 3 new abilities over 7 years. I think they can handle that.

I didnt like that legion removed so many abilities. But i agree with abilities that are more class oriented

My ideal expansion would inevitably require multiple expansions to see to fruition.

PvE: The raids are fine. Dungeons could use some updating. All of the different difficulties could use a revamp. There should be LFR (Training Wheels mode), Normal, & Hardmode (call it Heroic or Mythic if you want, but we really need to get rid of one of these difficulties, there’s too many)

Dungeons need a revamp on difficulty as well. Keep Normal & combine Heroic with Mythic. There should only be two difficulties to streamline it better. Normal to make it easy and then a hardmode for that current Mythic+ progression.

All dungeons from previous expansions should be made relevant to play. Not required, but relevant. Give them their own Mythic+ style of progression that scales everything up to current max level & offer nearly as good rewards as current content.

PvP: All battlegrounds would see graphical revamps, balance changes in pathways & choke points, and some changes to objectives to make them more interesting. New battlegrounds would be included with an emphasis on objectives. A few new battlegrounds that are literal death matches. A new battleground in the style of a MOBA. Warfronts will be repurposed into actual battlegrounds with more of a focus on building up your bases / upgrades to workd towards killing the enemy base in the style of War II but streamlined to work well in an MMO setting. Lots of callbacks to War II & War III could be made for flavor.

PvP should be easy for anyone to hop into but difficult to master. Gearing really shouldn’t be a hurdle new players should have to get past. The real hurdle they should be getting past is PvP know how, crowd control, bursting, strategy. PvP gear would be cosmetic in nature with some pieces requiring time into PvP to obtain, while other pieces would require rating threshold requirements. All classes are on an equal playing field. The differences between them would be the individual skill of the player and any chosen talents / pvp talents.

Lore: It really needs to get back to basics. Simple story-lines with amazing backdrops. More emphasis should be put into the world & it’s denizens. Outside threats should remain ever present but not in a “in your face” fashion like they have been.

Systems: Parasitic systems - GONE. No more expansion only systems. Systems should carry over into every expansion and act as a way to continue to progress your character / alts / even account. Horizontal style progression could really work well here with the various systems. Systems that only last for a single expansions life is an obsolete development strategy.

Classes: Should not overly rely on external systems to function. All classes should be kitted out to work and be competitive in most situation but with their own flavor. Every class should have their time to shine depending on the situations provided. Systems should enhance the overall experience not be the defining factor to making a class/spec feel good to play.
