I appreciate someone seeking to hear others thoughts and opinions, share a common interest yknow.
I suppose what I would want is:
Raiding/Dungeon Loop of TLK/BC - So armor sets that drop from pieces, justice points for dungeons and valor points for raid with their corresponding vendors. So that way you’re always making some form of progress even if no gear drops for you in your content.
Lore - Mists of Pandaria quality, but with a Wrath of the Lich King connection to the world. What I mean is Mists of Pandaria had some of the greatest stories in WoW but it did feel all disconnected because it all had to do with that new mysterious land, so just something of that fidelity but for Azeroth as a whole or at least places we are familiar with or feel more of a connection to.
Player Identity of Legion - Return of focus around your character, not as a Champion of Azeroth, or Mawwalker. But simply as a renowned with some spec focus and diversity as well. Getting the Archmage title was really hype for me on my mage, I’ve wanted it for ages and it made me feel really connected to my character.
Questing competency of WoD - I’m unsure if anyone remembers, but when WoD first came out a lot of the community was hopeful. Because the early game/questing in WoD was Great, very story driven, interesting, as well as entertaining.
Late game/Casual content of Legion/Mists, they had the great ones. Class Mount unlocks (as the campaign was kind of an ongoing thing), Deaths of Chromie, Mage Tower, Archaelogy & other profession questlines, Argus with Invasion Points (Argus looked like vomit but gameplay wise was fun), Trove of the Thunder King & Timeless Isle (which I know they have tried to recreate numerous times I’m just listing it) & of course Challenge Mode Dungeons from Mists (they are doing so much with dungeons now since Mythic+, it would be great for this version to come back too). And also some solo scenarios, scenarios when used well/properly are always solo based. Nobody really liked them in Mists because they were just inferior dungeons, but as a solo dungeon or challenge or adventure they are appreciated.
Reputation Variety of TBC/Wrath/Mists - All reputations nowadays are just world quests, no variety. I miss my Netherdrakes, my Order of the Cloud Serpent, my Frenzyheart/Oracles, and even my tabard reps. I’m not saying they should do all these things, but I just want reputations to be earned differently across yknow different reputations.
PVP…just give it some attention again. Legion was the last time they got a Battleground (as Seething Shore was the prepatch to BFA), and while I do appreciate variety in map modes WSG/TP and AB/DWG, I even more so appreciate new Battleground styles such as Seething Shore and Silvershard Mines. It isn’t even difficult, what Blizzard has always been best at is taking other people’s ideas, stealing them and then improving them. So just continue to do that, look at other MMOs or other games where there is competition take a formula from them and run with it. PVPers need love.
Also it would be an absolute banger to get another progression .2 patch, so your Thundering Isles, Molten Fronts, Suramars where the story progression opens up more content and also you can actually see the changes in the zone as you continue.
^^^
Those are the basics for just a winning formula.
But after that its just more player identity, so more customization options. I’m glad we got more in BFA/Shadowlands but the more you can tweak your character the better. More playable races would be nice, but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if it wasn’t the case. I always advocate for new races when it makes sense, so without knowing the theme/concept of this dream expansion I wouldn’t be an advocate for any. Like Dark Iron Dwarves should have been a thing in Cataclysm, not BFA that was wierd. I want and love Taunka, but since they have been ignored since their rightful time to join in Wrath I wouldn’t just reach out for them without reason now.
Its been a while since we got a new class so that would be nice. And though I’ve wanted Necromancers more since Wrath, I will toss my chip in for Tinkers because they can be introduced pretty much whenever and wherever. Not to mention WoW desperately needs another mail wearing class, and another one that consistently uses guns/bows and Tinker would accomplish both those things.
And of course EVERGREEN PLAYER HOUSING I feel like WoW is the only MMO that is in current day that still doesn’t have housing. Just a system where you can stylize, decorate, customize and show off your personal accomplishments over your many years of Warcraft. You keep it away from the mistake of Garrisons by not making it attached to the expansion at all, its just something players can do or just ignore. No power progression, no systems or command tables, just a place to goof off with collectible pieces of furniture, architecture styles and designs and so on. I would go on to how to balance this all and make it engaging but my post has run on long enough, the key thing is to just make it so player housing is purely side content, do not connect it to the main game at all. It is purely for fun, that is it.
