Just out of curiosity…
- What was your first character’s race and class?
- Why did you choose that class/race combo?
- When was this character created?
- Did your subsequent characters follow the pattern set by your first character?
I have a hunch that even adjusting for xpac-tied races and racial ability minmaxing, there are trends to be found in character creation choices.
In my case, this is my oldest character – he was rolled during patch 1.6. I hadn’t the slightest clue about Warcraft or even any other Tolkienesque fantasy setting at that point, which made the Horde thoroughly unappealing and other Alliance races questionable. As a noob, human felt like the “safest” option, so that’s what I went with. The majority of characters rolled since have been Alliance but not human.

Undead warlock, vanilla wow… because it looked cool.
And well… im a holy priest as a main now so… not exactly a pattern.
Don’t think there is really a pattern.
First character was a Human Warrior about a month after BC launch. Seemed pretty generic and safe. After that was Druid (Horde), Shaman (Alliance), Priest (Alliance), Priest (Horde).
Is there a pattern?
This is Peppermint’s first character.
Back in 2015 my first character was a Worgen Warrior since it combined battleaxes with werewolves. The pattern I had was making what called out to me.
Nightelf Hunter Vanilla. At the time I thought it would be easiest to play, and I like the idea of having the company of a pet. This is still my main although I’m a Worgen now. Subsequent characters haven’t followed a pattern as I have one of everything both Horde and Alliance, different races too.
Undead fire mage, Vanilla started in 2006 so tail end. I chose her cause my ex made me, he needed free food and needed me to be an alchemist for his shadow potions.
I went fire cause everyone wanted me to go frost lol.
My main now varies between my shaman and my DK.
Can relate to this so hard, lol. I begrudgingly respecced frost for guild MC and Onyxia but outside of that I was always some variant of fire.

My first real char was a Blood elf hunter.
I had a few trial runs to see how things went in the game, then settled on her as a serious char.
Elf chosen as if elf a choice I will play them. Blood elf chosen since at the time a better backstory. Came to game late legion so not 100% up to speed on lore. I was coming from more WC3 memories. So I saw the birth of the blood elves as it were.
Hunter chosen since I tend to like ranged dps more archer style than magic user style. After I play tested a few classes I went back to what I know and like here.
Follow on chars followed the mold. Several elves both sides fill my ranks. I do branch out but in my heart I am an elf lol.
Your looking at him. Started playing 6 months before BC came out.
Human mage!!!
I was brand new at the game, had literally no idea what I was doing. Only played because my ut2k4 friends told me to. Mage seemed cool at the time however nowadays its def not my thing.
Damn… its been so long i dont even know. If i had to guess sometime in 2005/2006?
Not at all actually, i remember clearly when i was level 20ish i saw some horde invading a city of ours, they were big giant taurens on kodos, it looked so cool. i immediately re-rolled horde that day and never went back.
Undead Priest
I liked playing the scourge in Warcraft 3 and the Horde in Warcraft 2 before that.
October 2005
My second character was a Undead Warlock followed by a Orc Warrior.
Though I ended up maining a Tauren Boomkin/Resto Druid for 7 years after I stopped playing my Priest until WoD where I rolled this Night Elf DK.
This is my first Character, four servers and two name changes later. I stated playing just to play an undead, and warlock sounded cool. It was in the first year of LK, and I played Forsaken most of the time, I only branched out into Goblins and Pandas because I’ve seen every scrap of Forsaken content 100 times,
I went into the game knowing nothing, by myself. Never heard of the warcraft series. It was complete blind.
I rolled a gnome rogue as my first. Played until I got to IF, and dueled a level 70. I hopped around trying to avoid his attacks. I died.
I then rerolled a Nelf Huntard, which was and still is my main.
And that, was that.
Male Dwarf Hunter, created mid BC. I liked dwarfs in fantasy books. Hunter was said to be a good solo/beginner class.
