runas the shamed.
- Jaina…
her character in WC3 and after MoP is really good…and with even with the bad writing in BFA…her story in BFA is actually really good… - Anduin…
didn’t know much about him in-game, especially before MoP…but his character in books and even comics is really good…its show a good man struggling to be a good king and to create peace between Alliance and Horde…he can be first if he start to grow some ‘balls’…sometimes…a king must do what a king must do…and that include war…
Off the top of my head; Jaina, Grizzek and Saffy. Jaina because I like that she didn’t let the Horde’s repeated betrayals of her faith in them twist her too much and Grizzek and Saffy are brave enough to betray that douche Gallywix and the warchief because they know what they’re being forced to do is wrong and risk death to escape it. That and they’re adorable together.
The Gob Squad
That random forsaken patrol in Nazmir
Plus some named ones, but blizzard likes to ruin those every chance they get so I’m not really invested in them anymore.
Jack Skellington
Khadgar- He really works hard for the best of everyone, doesn’t care much about politics just the greater picture, is always ready to go and has an interesting past. Plus the cool raven form.
Velen - noble, compassionate, wise and a fantastic leader. Probably one of the oldest ‘mortals’ around, he’s made some mistakes and sacrifices but has this really neat air about him.
Azshara - How can you NOT love her? Her confidence, her absolute fierceness, the kind of power she commands. I can get why so many call her ‘QUEEN’. She is fun even if seen antagonistically and her backstory is really cool.
Saurfang - I love the old soldier vibe, he emobides the horde at it’s core and he’s had a hard life, whats not to love?
Talanji - A new comer but certainly a welcomed edition, things have only gotten more interesting with the latest raid.
Bwonsamdi - Oh my gosh, how can you not just smile at this guy? A mysterious trickster just oozing charm.
Anduin - I love the fact he is so calm and wise beyond his years, he seems to embody the Alliance perfectly and I love this fresh face King trying to make his mark. I wouldn’t mind seeing him have more character flaws though, just to really hammer it home.
Grizzek and Saffy were just amazing in BtS ! I really loved their dynamic and makes me want more cross-species,cross-faction pairings??
Plus its nice to see Goblins with some substance beyond ‘greedy’.
Yrel, Arthas(Stratholme), Locus Walker and Talanji, the only morally gray characters in this game
Nathanos <3
No particular order…
Anduin
I know, I know, but I watched the kid grow up and he’s everything I hoped he’d be. His faith has taken hits and he’s still standing there refusing to be less than who he knows he’s capable of being. (and I stand petrified in fear that Blizz is salivating at the thought of putting him through their overused “corrupted hero needing to be downed/redeemed” trope)
Thalyssra (Legion)
I absolutely loved how we got to find her in the wilderness - vulnerable, severely weakened, and almost ready to give in - and helped her rise all the way up to Racial Leader of her people. Sorry Xe’ra, but Thalyssra and her Rebellion were the best part of Legion hands down. (… though “I AM my scars!” wins best moment.)
Shandris Feathermoon
Sooooo happy to see her finally getting to take some main-stage screen time. Though honestly, I would have her up here for no reason other than the Youtube video of her one-shotting Garrosh and deciding to turn Ogrimmar into a dungeon boss she likes to solo.
Lillian Voss
Ever since I rolled a Forsaken in Cata and watched her flourish into a little ball of hatred aimed directly at the Scarlet Crusade, I wanted to see more of her. I enjoyed that, despite her being technically a Forsaken, she followed her own path. She was never a “Dark Lady” follower and ran her own campaign against the Scarlets and leftover Necromancers (even working with Alliance members) before finally deciding to join the Horde of her own volition. And she partially joined out of compassion for those she knew would be risen by Sylvanas and wanting to help them cope with their new reality. She’s something rare and complex in Blizz writing and I want to see how she develops.
Sylvanas Windrunner
Sorry, but BfA hasnt erased years of considering her one my favorites. Her backstory is one of their better ones, and I have always enjoyed watching her do her thing. … and then she burned my tree down. I refuse to bump her off this list because of Blizz writing though. She deserves better.
Soon to be favorites at the pace they are going:
Flynn Fairwind - He’s extremely well fleshed out for a supporting character and filled to the brim with personality. I’m hoping he sticks around.
Bwomsamdi - Loving every single moment he’s in the game. Jumped off a cliff once just to see what smart-#$@ thing he’d say to me at the graveyard – was not disappointed.
Honorable mentions for the Dead:
Varian Wrynn, Vol’Jin (though it looks like he’s not done), Tirion Fordring
Kaylaan, his storyline made me cry. And the final showdown in Deathblow to the Legion was epic.
Crusader Bridenbrad, I cried, young me also thought we could save him.
Chadwick Paxton and his gang, I love em, they reminded about the good of Forsaken (dark comedic sociopathy rather than outright evil).
Valtrois, I adored working for her in Legion, her ego was endearing rather than annoying.
(cheating) The NPC prisoner of your race you have to execute as part of the Death Knight starting area.
Actual 5 , Cairne, he died trying to save all of us.
Oh, sorry for not bringing much positivity I guess, I was just going off the ones that made me feel. I liked all these.
All of the problematic characters…
and Vol’jin.
1- Thrall
2- Grommash Hellscream
3- Malgar and Remmes (Bloodsworm comic)
4- Gazlowe
5- Lilian Voss\Nathanos
Almost forget Liam too, running around without a shirt punching undead. Silly kid.
Thrall
The reformer of the Horde. The liberator of the Orcs. The savior of the Trolls and Tauren. What more needs to be said? This bro is the OG of the Horde. You disrespect him, you ain’t true Horde imo.
Zul’jin
“ [Dis]… was our land. [Troll] land. We [Amani] was here before ANYONE! Da [elves]and their [Alliance] came ta drive us out. But we never give up. We never forget. Da elves took my eye. I cut off my own arm to escape dem. And now, [dey] fight alongside de [Horde]?! I spit on de Horde! I hate you… I hate you all. But I got a surprise for ya now… so come on in. De Amani never give up! We never forget! We never die. Dis is our land. You wanna stay, you stay here forever! We gonna bury you [here] ”
Nuff said
Vol’jin
Rude boy. Original Horde. He proved that when Horde is losing its way, that rebellion is natural and in fact a duty. Can’t say enough good things about this boy, shame on Blizz for killing him so they could make the Edgelords Wet Dream Horde for BfA.
Tyrande Whisperwind
She hates my guts. She calls me “troll” with a disgusting tone. And bro, I frickin’ love it. Yes! Step on me! I ride the Fossilized Raptor for that amazing flavor text.
Lilian Voss
I did the Forsaken starting quests in Cata. I did the new Scarlet Monastery and new Scholomance. This girl is bad. This girl is one of the best undead characters ever. That raspy voice. That determination. “DIE NECROMANCER!!!”. Yes bro, just yes.
This is my list of Top 5 characters. Is hard to pick just 5 though, and the list is subject to change on any given day.
5: Khadgar-Excellent blend of noble purpose and quirky personality.
4: Valtrois-Thalyssra is definitely better as a leader but Valtrois just exemplifies the appeal of the nightborne. Her haughtiness is just delicious.
3: Sylvanas-Been a favorite since WC3. Confident and ruthless in her ambitions. Quite protective of her followers while not giving a flying hoot about her enemies.
2: Li Li-She’s spunky! Always tons of fun when she shows up and her relationship with her uncle is really endearing.
1: Azshara-The ultimate smug queen bee with all the power and cunning to back it up. Absolutely stoked for 8.2 and I hope she winds up playing N’zoth like a fiddle.
And Agatha! Starting in Cataclysm she’s the Val’kyr that creates new Forsaken.
She sacrifices herself with her sisters to resurrect Sylvanas.
Real talk, I’ll just say I like Umbric. Sure he’s a brand spanking new character and doesn’t have much to him yet, but for the screentime he’s afforded I would say I do enjoy his character a lot. He has this funny mix of coming across as a dork because he wants so desperately to fit in with the rest of the Alliance and line up with their moral code, doing everything he can to earn their trust, all while doing crazy things like throwing the Horde into void portals and killing a bunch of socialites at a pool party. It just adds to the charm of his character to me, where other Alliance races stick to a strict code, we have this guy who is something of a “Hero with an F in Good” trope and that’s a refreshing concept of a character to have in the Alliance.
