Your Character's Aesthetic

There have been a lot of threads on the Trading Post lately discussing the aesthetics of mog and I was wondering how folks choose to mog their characters.

Are your choices based solely on what looks good or ‘cool’ to you?

Or do you take into consideration the character’s race? Or class? Or professions?

Or does it reflect the character’s personality? Or backstory? Or experiences? Or loyalties?

Or their present adventure?

Or is it some combinations of things?

Does each character have a set mog or do you change it at whim?

What guidelines do you use to mog your characters? Is it the same for all of them or individual depending on the character?

Or is it just a free-for-all?

For me, it is individual based on some combo of the above.

A few examples:

My human mage (forum avatar): has a set mog which reflects her class, conservative taste and jaunty personality but will occasionally change into something she feels is more appropriate if her story warrants it. For instance, she just reached the rank of archmage and is busy dealing with movers and shakers so she updated her outfit to a more formal ‘witch’ look. Once she moves on, she will revert to her usual outfit.

My human hunter: changes mog to match whatever bow has caught her fancy in the moment and prefers outfits that are more… ornate (or garish depending on your tastes)

My dwarven shaman: set mog which reflects her practical nature, her loyalty to Ironforge and her affinity with fire

My blood elf death knight: set outfit that reflects her menace, confidence and attitude with a constantly changing weapon looking for the perfect one

My troll mage: set mog that reflects her heritage and recent adventures in Pandaria

My undead warlock: set mog reflects her dark nature and little care for ornamentation (she wears a robe and a cloak and that is it)

So what about you?

Personally i like my character to fit the class archtype.

Aka plate - as heavy as i can find that fits the class. Gold for pally, iron for warrior etc.

I dont really play ranged, but my hunter is transmogged into red/gold since shes a BE with a quiver.

Originally the design of this paladin was meant to be somewhat based off the footman from the RTS games, using the colours for Stromgarde.

but these days I’m tempted to log into my paladin and change into the cutest possible outfit I can come up with.

The wings don’t do you justice.

It depends on the character. Some are more grounded and serious, some are silly. Either way I try to get a good aesthetic with matching colors and good balance. I usually put the sexy mogs on the races you don’t see them on. Like no blood elves in bikini mogs, but tauren or goblins? All day.

I like to make a full package.
What for me right now is terrible to do as a BM hunter.
The class fantasy of BM hunter is all wrong IMO, right now iBMs are like warlocks sending all kinds of demons to their enemies, BMs are “zookeppers” sending all kinds of pets… and that, to me, is a terrible design as I like to play as having a special bound with my pets.
In order to do that I am having to play a strange BM talents setup and trying dark ranger, diferent from every-single-build I have checked.
IDK if it will work on PvE or PvP (if I ver try), but players should not jave to gimp tbeir playstyle in order to be able to play the class fantasy they want, everything choise should be compatible dps wise.

I went for the “practical” look.
None of my cloth wearers have robes and wear pants because I always saw it silly that if they’re adventuring all the dirt/crud they’d be getting on their hemlines along with the robes snagging on them. My hunters all have mogs that mimic leather for a ranger look and to not clank around in mail armor. My plate wearers, just wear plain armor styles because they don’t want to be spotted a mile away by the enemy.

I like to freestyle.

I tend to focus on taking pieces of mogs from my class like Dying Light set from DS for example and mix it with general pieces, like Priest tier sets are all robes and I try to find something to replace that robe with. I don’t do this for all of my tiers though. My stuff is non-robes for the most part with some robe mogs ready to be used.

I still want to rock the looks of the tier stuff fitting for my class while being creative basically, class fantasy is important to me.

I usually aim for race and class.

My Rogue is a good example, fully embracing the Gilnean Aesthetic, even choosing daggers that fit with it.

My stinky little druid is my dream guy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: He’s one of four flavors.

Choosing his face was really easy because there is only one good male night elf face. Choosing the rest, well ask Michaelangelo how he came up with the Sistine Chapel!

Depends on the character.

For some, I change their mog on a whim. Maybe I see something I like on the Trading Post, so I buy it then change a character’s outfit to match.

For others, I stick to a more strict aesthetic. For example, some characters always wear dresses or skirts, and my warlock always has some purple in whatever she’s wearing.

I’ve also been inclined to change a mog based on a new mount I’ve acquired.

For my RP characters, their backstory and current narrative play a huge part in what they are wearing.

Bit of everything you listed, but ultimately personal preference is my main concern. What looks cool to me is always paramount to any other factors.

Along with whatever is the least of a PITA to acquire. I farm as little as I possibly can.

You ate beautyful… no matter what they say.
(put some spikes should be alright)

Love it. love we have mogs that forces people to be, whatever you are, as a punishment

My character’s RP is that they decided to become a monk and abandon how Goblins generally are sometime during the events of MoP due to Gallywix’s actions

Mine is based off that I found infinite renewable energy in fel. Doesn’t hurt I get to burn things, and have an army of minions I get to summon.

Also being immortal via soul stones and draining life to stay forever young is a bonus.

i mog my character how i like it.
