You'll miss it when it's gone

War is hell. But like old warriors of every story ever youll miss phase 2 when it’s gone. Maybe not now, not tomorrow but the sun will set on your frustrations. Someday you look back with fondness at the pure carnage and chaos that vanished forever more like it did on retail.

Phase 2 was a gift of being able to be so mad at a game merely for being what it is, a poorly planned and framed brawl. Also you’ll miss it for allowing yourself the moral excuses to kill that level 23 questing warlock. I salute all you I have shamelessly killed and been shamelessly killed by. We will never know the like again…

…until phase 5. Ill see ya in silithus then ya’ ragamuffins.

Except it’s still going to happen. WPvP is actually fun.

Here’s my thoughts on Wpvp - When it happens Naturally like 5 man Dire maul group runs into another group that happens to be running dire maul, its fun. Or when two MC groups happen to be trying to get their tanks the FR buff from UBRS, its hectic but still a little fun.

When a group is camping the flight path or the entrance to BRM for nothing but kills, it becomes frustrating for one side. At that point it is not longer just pvp, its a job.

And then people will start getting bored and will start wanting to RP more and create IC guild v guild rivalries and campaign fights, then it’ll have its own kind of flavor of wpvp

Are you suggesting people don’t RP while camping BRM?

Nah.

I don’t think everything needs to be balanced and fair. World PvP is fun because it is immersive and unpredictable, and therefore, often unfair.

However, there is a whole spectrum of “immersive and unpredictable” that ranges from fun and reasonable to completely absurd and stupid. The high-reward, low-risk rogue gank mechanic is entirely broken and absurd, and is why every choke point is swimming with rogues farming easymode honour 24/7. The lack of a death penalty allowing players to just come back over and over and over and over and over is absurd. Honour sniping is completely absurd. People feeling it necessary and/or being incentivized to constantly zergswarm places like Chillwind or Everlook or Blasted Lands is absurd.

Phase 1 World PvP was great. Phase 2 has just incentivized people to constantly engage in the lamest forms of World PvP possible and I will absolutely not miss it.

I think that the end of WPvP being the only honor grind will make WPvP fun again.

Much like the spontaneous Hillsbrad Foothills battle that lasted for a week and a half and then died away just as quickly, these four weeks of WPvP slaughter were a somewhat enjoyable temporary experience… but I don’t think I’ll miss them.

It’s not like BGs will remove all WPvP from the game. Everyone will use BGs to rank up, but once we’re all at the ranks we’re aiming for, once we’ve cleared the instanced PvP content like we’re clearing the instanced PvE content, you’ll see WPvP again, much like it was in Phase 1 (though hopefully Horde will be more active)

It’ll be WPvP for the sake of WPvP, rather than for the sake of honor. So in the end, there’s really nothing to miss… we’re moving towards something better, at the end of the day.

PvE Content will always provide grounds for WPvP to happen. BG’s are just organized PvP content without the side-murder.

For sure, and I can’t wait for the AQ event when we all fill up Silithus and turn that zone into a bloodbath in the process of opening the gates.

Nah.

Post must be at least 10 characters.

It’s going to be a sweet piece of irony if one faction rolls the other in majority of BG’s making that faction on this server do more ganking instead in WPvP due to not wanting to que BG’s often or sit in the city in ques.

I have a feeling this may happen lol

My point isn’t that this is the best wpvp it’s that this world pvp is so unique so special in how it makes use mad but also makes us push to do things and styles we don’t like. Those that lasted through it have truly experienced a small fraction more of what simulated war can be. You hate it, you despise it but you do what ya gotta do.

I look forward to more recreational bloodshed with you survivors

I just want my faction to care.
Especially for the little guys still out there grinding and hustlin’

boat camping is truly unique
unique because it can’t be done to blizzard’s carebear faction

I’ll miss phase 2. I got my fair share of BG’s on retail over the last decade and a half. Actually having to remain cautious in the real world so I don’t get ganked and wind up in some crappy player’s over-edited pvp montage added some fun to the game.

Admit it you just want to make your own over-edited PVP montage with early 2000’s rock music and every song from Rammsteins greatest hits buddy.

We all do.

This is reason why Burning crusade was superior in every way. Instead of slugging it out 5v1, you actually had to have a brain and learn about all the other classes.

For you “esports mode” haters, you now understand why Arenas took off the way that they did. world pvp is ghey.

the occasional 1v1 or 2v2 or 3v3 skirmish happens, but that’s rare…you rose tinted glasses people won’t get it though. Now you understand why blizzard went the way that they did.

Here’s to hoping they create BC servers with portal transfer like systems for people that hit level 60

Arenas/BGs + resilience > your crappy world pvp

Except WPvP was still very much alive in BC.

Arena’s is for tryhards and the only reason people did it was for the gear.
