I think you should make tanks quite easy to survive when playing. Tanks are currently something you struggle to find for raiding, M+ etc. and it’s simply because it’s too challenging.
Very simplified reason(s) why people won’t tank:
- You need to have a route and make sure people follow it. Adapt to route changes on the fly and change stratergy in the middle of keys
- One mistake and you’re out in raid basically. You usually don’t have many jobs but when you do have one you must do it correctly
- Aggro/threat issues in keys
- Affixes such as: Necrotic, Bolstering, Raging
My suggestion is to make tanks simply super easy to survive as this will make you afford to spend more time focusing on other things. You can see spikes in how many tanks are available when they’re OP. Recent examples: BFA S2 Prot warrior, BFA Season 4 Versatility corruption, Blood DK Shadowlands S3/S4.
If you don’t make the tank the limiting factor for content you will see an increase in how many tanks are playing the game.
Remove aggro/threat - this mechanic is super boring and I think you removing skittish also proves this. No one enjoys it and it makes it sooooooooo much harder for a tank to start tanking. When you need to spend all your focus to keep aggro or gather the mobs you’re likely to die or another party member dieing.
