Imagine letting people layer out of ganks and mobs…
Thank retailers pushing so hard for layered mega servers.
What makes you think it’s retailers? Pretty easy line to follow.
- I dont want to play on a dead server
- I dont want to play on a server where I can’t get anything done because of high population
- I want layers for a short term to alleviate this problem, and get the best of both worlds.
Where does retail come in? Throwing that word around like retail players are the boogeyman lol.
Also, I play on mutanus, so I wouldn’t know.

It’s a retail addition. Obviously layering wasn’t in vanilla and Classic Era pushed hard for it to not be in game as soon as possible.
I guess you could also blame the dog$hit players that don’t want to interact with anyone and have a layer to themselves. Completely negating the social aspect of an MMO -.-
Or the players that enjoyed abusing the layering mechanics to avoid pvp/mobs or to scan for rare npc’s.
People complaining about not being able to tag mobs either never played during the first weeks of a new expansion/fresh release or can’t comprehend going somewhere else to grind.
wanting all the good with none of the bad, thus creating a soulless experience, is exactly what retail is all about
My point was that layering exists in classic, it has for two years. Any new players, or people who came back to play are familiar with it as a function to relieve stress on zone pop. It will shock you to find out that tons of people who don’t play retail, want layers.
I guess in reality the question for the anti-layer people is why are you playing on a server that needs layers in the first place? Just do your homework kek
Careful there, that is a scary word to Classic people, they can barely hear the word H A S T E without having a meltdown.
And don’t even say A R M O R P E N E T R A T I O N unless you want a full blown riot.
It amuses me that “retailers” are the Classic WoW boogeymen. Don’t like something? Blame the retailers! It doesn’t have to make any sense, it’s just so catchy!
Something something, store mount in TBC…
Vanilla/Classic players definitely wanted that. Everybody wants to make fun of the phrase “slippery slope” but if there is no point to where customers push back, Blizzard will fully take advantage and P2W this too.
It saves the company money, retailers don’t give a damn about blizzard’s finances. Yea, they ask for retail features, but I highly doubt they were the decisive factor on layers.
Sounds like you’re not good enough at ganking. I’d guess there’s some room for improvement there. It’s nice to have goals to work on!
At this point, everything is a retail addition. Classic is the second coming of Retail.
That’s what I’m saying. It’s going to get to the point where it’s just retail with Classic graphics. We are devolving.
