You need to tell us if you have no plans to do Vanilla+ now

I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion about how TBC was a great expansion and so on. I really disagree.

To start I’d just like to say that TBC WAS one of the better expansions WoW had, but that doesn’t mean it was good. Yes, most people remember TBC and Wrath fondly because whilst they had good gameplay, “IF” each expansion removed 10% of why WoW was so popular in the first place, and now we’re 7 down and wondering where it all went wrong. (This goes for Wrath and every other expansion after).

IT STARTED TO GO WRONG WITH TBC.

Blizzard you forgot the two things that make playing MMO’s the most fun before every single game mechanic. Immersion and Community. Now I will agree, TBC did have these aspects but it was also losing touch. Here’s a list of why TBC shouldn’t be put on Classic, or at least all of the servers, and why there should be a Classic+ Option for people who aren’t interested in the themepark garbage that is inevitably coming.

I’ll start with the obvious:

  • Flying mounts. Completely destroying world PvP at max rank, and making any ground interactions you might have had not materialize.
  • Outland. 99% of quests done by max level players was being done in Outland. This made the other continents uninhabited, except for leveling players.
  • Everyone was crammed into Shattrath.

Now here’s some less obvious things that happened:

  • Horde VS Alliance wasn’t as apparent.
  • World Nuance was reduced.

I’m not trying to say “Don’t put TBC on any server” All I’m saying is please let us know if you have no intentions of doing it, because I’d rather not play for 2 years and have a repeat of 2007, in which I ebayed my Troll Warrior because I hated what the game had become.

I know I’m beating a dead horse. Just tell us what the deal is.

Classic isnt even out yet. For christ’s sake man lets find out if theres even interest in a tbc server after phase 6.
Also:

You could just as easily apply this to vanilla: “99% of quests done by max level players were done in silithus, burning steppes and EPL leaving all the other zones empty except for leveling players.” Players go to the zones that match their level, its kind of how its supposed to work.

Despite your lengthy post, you never defined what Vanilla+ is.

Is your title merely referring to TBC? Or are you wanting some divergent path like 1.13? Because the devs have already stated that they have no intention to develop future content for 2 versions of the game. So TBC Classic and WotLK Classic are the only potential continuations.

Unless they do something different (not TBC) then I’m just staying on the Classic servers. I have no desire to jump back on a treadmill.

This is exactly why sandboxes are superior to theme parks. Unfortunately there hasn’t been a truly great sandbox since UO. I’m enjoying the alpha for a new Sandbox mmo, but it’s NDA of course, so I can’t rave about how great it is.

A Warcraft sandbox would be awesome… someday…

I don’t have any plans to make Classic+

They have said Classic will stay as a museum to vanilla. I imagine if they decided to make TBC servers, they would be separate from Classic.

Blizz already said that if Classic is a success, they will maybe do BC and maybe Wrath. Pretty sure you have your answer already.

  1. Reduction of the endgame raid group size from 40 to 25 players. → less social interaction.
  2. Recycling of old content (Heroic Mode) → Less immersion.
  3. Daily Quests → Paternalism of the players. You can only do what is possible during a day. You can’t rework it if you haven’t played a day.
You can’t work it up if you won’t be able to play one day.
  4. Arena → Not because of the rating. But, because the battlegrounds with background history have degenerated to PvP 2nd class. In addition, a MMO in PvP should offer great battles. A 3vs3 is definitely not.
  5. Flying → Less immersion (Okay… the point is ambiguous. It could have increased immersion. But for that it would have been necessary that there is plenty of content in the sky. But there was no such thing.
Basically, the only consequence was that you saw fewer players and could reach targets on the ground faster. And of course you ignored the world on the ground as much as possible because you flew over it.
  6. Absolutely ugly world. With the exception of Nagrand. And ugly doesn’t mean threatening. Duskwood isn’t exactly my dream holiday destination either. But the area has a certain aesthetics that most BC areas lack.

And the other things you pointed out.

What I liked about BC, on the other hand:

  1. Better Balance.
  2. PvP Gear
  3. Juwelery
  4. New Races

If I remember correctly, they even said that they didn’t rule out completely new content either when Classic becomes a big success.

The only important thing would be to provide 2 different server types.
“Classic” and “Classic+” server.
So that the NoChanger still have a place of retreat. And so that Blizzard will still have their “museal” server.

I believe it hinges on success AND player demand. If 90% are telling them to stick with just Classic, it won’t be worth it to do TBC. Each server type needs to be profitable.

I’m in the camp of, I don’t care because I’m not going to play TBC again…

I am with you. When I played vanilla and TBC came out I questioned the level boost and its purpose. They can do Horizontal patch integration with new dungeons and raids. Redone raids that were released in later expansions would be awesome and add stuff that was data mined back then that people speculated off of like the Emerald dream or the Azhara BG. No they left it at it may be an option depending on the success of Classic. I imagine they will do Classic+ servers based on the success of Runescape. I feel like the opposite of J Allen brack here. You think you don’t…but you do want classic+.

I wouldn’t mind completion of things that never got done or got put off to expansions. Level 60 Kara or Hyjal, grim batol, azshara, emerald dream…

I’d copy my character to a Classic+ server. I would not play a TBC server. Once you hop on the treadmill they never turn it off…

I feel the same. The same people who cry about wanting TBC and Wotlk argue that a Classic+ will split the community up too much. I think Classic+ would be the biggest yet.

i love this topic!

7 options

  1. classic only. the end.
  2. classic only reboots after 3 years
  3. classic with separate tbc/separate wotlk, the end
  4. classic with separate tbc/separate wotlk, reboots after 3 years of wotlk
  5. classic with progression into tbc and wotlk, the end
  6. classic with progression into tbc and wotlk, reboots after 3 years of wotlk
  7. classic+ with added horizontal development, such as new raids and dungeons added (karazhan crypts, emerald dream, medivh’s tower, dragon isles, etc), guild banks, alliance high elves, horde ogres, retail models, 4th specs, etc…with possible reboot after 3 years or progression into an alternate outlands

Yassssss new raids at level 60 and the only knowledge of the fights maybe data mined but really just trial and failure.

They could never pull off forced resets. The majority of the community will be overwhelmingly against losing all their progress. I know I’m not into that either. The number of people who want a hard reset probably isn’t enough to fill a single server.

Probably they would open a new server for it, which starts from the beginning and to which no character can be transferred.

I still prefer to play new content than to play the same content again after 3 years.

chromie dropped the temporal discombobulator while it was still tuned to classic and it creates an alternate classic timeline. alliance high elves are the elves that became blood elves eventually but they are still high elves and allies of the alliance. no arthas yet. so that means silvermoon city could be used and be in high elven colors . the portal to undercity would be removed and could travel out of quel’thalas via boat

You imagine…

…But they’d probably try to save money by tacking TBC on and enraging everyone who wanted Vanilla.

I have no desire for the current dev team to make new content for classic. None. It would be terrible.

TBC and Wrath it is for me, or nothing.

personally, i love tbc but i wouldnt mind if they were totally separate. to me, that is the ideal.
