Look i’m not trying to sound like an incel man-child here but stop giving titles and names to female characters to make them seem better. Faerin…Lothar? No. Don’t do that. Make her as you would properly introduce a character. Don’t say i’m forced to like her cause she is a child of an old major part of the lore and she is an immediate god tier level hero.
You guys succeeded so well before with introducing completely new female characters out of the blue. Like Lilian Voss. Never heard a whisper of that girl until cata was released and her story went simply as: trained from a small child to be a superior weapon against the undead until the scarlet crusade realized her potential was too great and ended her life prematurely. Awoken again by the power of the val’kyr in a new world of the forsaken and now lost, confused, terrified and above all that…hurt. Some of her closest friends from life such as Gebler and family like her own father put a warrant out for her SECOND DEATH. She goes on a complete psychotic rampage and SLAUGHTERS the scarlet crusade without mercy originally thought out of hatred but no she actually had an ulterior motive, enchanted weaponry. Weapons she used to fight Darkmaster gandling and you still think it’s all about revenge until she says “i’ll not let you curse another soul with this nightmare!” to gandling while fighting him. She is doing all this to stop evil, not for herself but everyone. She isn’t some edgelord she’s a hero. Later on she begins to well…relax and make friends with other people in warcraft like Lorna Crowley and a night elf whose name escapes me at the moment. But that is so perfect, her getting to have a happy ending to have not only have peers but friends and she deserves at least that. Well written story, she had her great adventure that truly puts something more interesting than the previous story of ‘the holy people vs the undead’ that the lordaeron story used to be. Her development made her a PERFECT example of proper story writing.
Great female character. Great character in general honestly. Thats good writing so good that I was almost upset when I thought she died in Scholomance. But then you decide to get lazy and then you’re like here we mades a new pally character to teach Anduin the light is good again hehe she is also a handicapped person of color so look at us being so open-minded to all people yay!
Make her as her own character. Let her be a novice paladin we meet at the start that is only just learning to use the Light as a weapon and shield to protect those in need. Let her meet Anduin and he discourages her because he feels the light has truly abandoned him. Let her grow courage while facing adversity and have the light suddenly save her and she helps Anduin realize his potential with the light had never been severed. ADD SOME FLARE. DEVELOP A CHARACTER. MAKE AN ACTUAL STORY. IT’S. NOT. HARD. Because what you’re doing now is spitting out some character with whatever traits and we’re supposed to like them just cause but that is not how it works. When Mists of Pandaria came out you’re introduced to an entire team of Horde and Allaince comrades. I don’t know any of their names except Riko because he was a loudmouthed monkey in love with a forsaken. They’re an ‘A-team’ of your faction including an assassin, a sharpshooter, explosives expert etc but none of them have any backstory or personality outside of basic tropes and I feel like that is what you doing with Faerin. You’re wasting potential on a great character whom you really want to be part of the main story but writing her in as someone who was just thrown in
They did. They literally did almost the entire Hallowfall story before revealing her last name.
She was very much standing on her own by that point.
You mean the female NPC who’s entire story prior to BFA, EIGHT YEARS after her introduction, was about her father? Do you not see how ridiculous you sound trying to use that as an example?
Literally every single example of why you think Lilian is good can be applied to the quests and dialogue Faerin has before you learn she’s a Lothar.
Also, she isn’t even tied to an existing lore character. She’s simply a Lothar. She is not directly related to Anduin Lothar. Just distantly. Read the lore you are given.
I’ll give it to you, you’re masking the racism better, but stop.
All I see are multiple paragraphs of crippling insecurity.
Faerin is a Lothar, because Momma Lothar and Daddy Lothar loved each other. It’s a hereditary name, not some earned title. Would you also tilt your lid to learn that almost every European is a descendent of Charlemagne?
She shares a common ancestor with Anduin Lothar, she isn’t his child. They are from different branches of the Lothar family that split during the collapse of the original Arathi Empire.
See here’s the difference between me and others, including the ones running the show. I am not gonna say oooooo sexism they don’t have that thing I want.
I just want it. That’s it. Strong female Orc that is true to her heritage.
I’m not saying the people hating Faerin aren’t just doing it out of racism. They probably are. But the people who cry racism and sexism are bullies, plain and simple. Not allowed to hate X character. Not allowed to say Y, or do Z. They don’t care. It’s just a way to control peoples’ behaviour to them, which is what they want. If we’re gonna attack people’s motives when it’s hella obvious, that should be called out too.
Blockquote But then you decide to get lazy and then you’re like here we mades a new pally character to teach Anduin the light is good again hehe she is also a handicapped person of color so look at us being so open-minded to all people yay!
If this is really what you think … just take a break from the forums and put in just a tiny little bit of effort into learning about the actual world you live in, and the fantasy world you play in. Just have a seat for a minute. You’re saying a lot here with this take, but it’s all about you, and doesn’t say anything about Faerin and the team of story-tellers and artists who created her.
Just have a seat for a minute. You have no idea how you sound.
Players said the same thing in the past and were given Aggra, and those same players along with a handful of the same / similar forum posters now, flipped their lid that she wasn’t a push over submissive tradwife material and was too “orcish.”
Anduin is trying to find his way back to the light. He meets a character who still believes despite her hopeless situation. She is what he hopes to be again. She’s a foil for him. She hasn’t been around long enough to have a full arc yet.
Well now Imma have to backpedal slightly because this is the type of thing they SHOULD ignore because of sexism. If they don’t want sexism.
Frankly I think we reached peak inclusion in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine era, when we could have Farengi who were kind of horrible culturally, and have main characters of that race, and not even invalidate their culture. They mandated their females to be naked btw.
