I keep seeing people on here saying the community is awful, but I’ve been treated excellently by the community and feel very welcome.
I’m having fun and every time I have a genuine question I usually get a PM or a message in the general chat with help.
You guys are alright, don’t accept that you’re a toxic community. You’re not.
Also when people have cool things I message them that they’re so cool, and guess what, they generally really appreciate it and show me the thing that does what is making them cool.
You guys are way too harsh on yourselves.

I’m happy you’re having fun, but try a mythic dungeon as a tank, or pvp for a real test.

I also have a vast majority of great experiences with people in groups. Just don’t invite shamans, they are all drama queens.
It’s a shame negative experiences stick out in our mind far more than positive ones that’s really all it is

That’s the evolution of the prefrontal cortex talking to you.

Played this game too long and can not bring myself to believe this.
The op needs to tank some pug m+ and arenas.

People remember the bad experiences the most and are quick to forget about the dozens, if not hundreds of every positive/neutral interaction they’ve had between those bad interactions.

I have tanked Mythic + as as a pug. that that’s how I got into mythics this expansion. Heck I even ruin the key by not fully understanding the mechanics of muezhala’s attack pattern. They taught me and I moved on.
Some people are toxic, some aren’t.
Both types of people integrate in our community. I would agree with you, though. That’s not to say the community itself is toxic.
Some of the worst actors in the game come to the forums and end up representing the “community”. If you’re at the top you’re probably not running into any problems, especially if you never associate with anyone outside of your own small circle of friends and guildmates.
People just like this still infest trade chat, so it really does run right through the game.
If you aren’t a rock star elite player, you probably have found out long ago that the kind of people who will play with you are basically unreliable. After they’ve had enough bad guild experiences, many players have stopped joining them altogether.

Everyone has a different experience, come across the wrong person and presto entire community is toxic because generalizations.
Also the word toxic is thrown around more than gnomes in the online world. Everything is toxic, this post, your post, the next post, all past posts, my dog is toxic, the color of my fence is toxic, pointing out toxic is overused is toxic. Don’t like it? Toxic.

There are lots of toxic people, and lots of kind people. Peeps just tend to talk more about the negative side of the community.
I’m generally helpful to folks…at least feel I am. Get tells of thanks all the time for randomly healing strangers, tanking mobs off a surrounded squishy toon, offer a lift in the maw on my Druid to a rando runner, rezzing strangers to save them a grueling run, stuff like that.
It’s kinda my play style…I see it for what it is. Not every element on the table is toxic, not all of them gold. Don’t think either and I’m good with me.
Nine out of ten people you meet are going to be very nice. That 10th guy though… he’s going to make you want to break stuff.
That evil 10th guy ruins it for everyone.

The issue is that the “community” is actually like a venn diagram. There are demographics represented by bubbles that rarely if ever overlap. People within some of those demographics deceive themselves into thinking that their demographic represents reality, and others would have the same experiences if only they would think or act like them. Or at least want to be like them.
Meanwhile these bubbles float in an ocean of players with whom they have little or no interaction. They don’t know these people, and they don’t want to know these people.
Gaming is full of intolerant people who think everyone who hasn’t chosen to play the game exactly like them are doing life wrong.
Trust me, its toxic as any other community, you just haven’t stepped on any of their nonexistent toes yet with your own opinions that they would have a field day assuming “Its stupid, you’re wrong” instead of having constructive criticism.
It’ll happen some day. I tried my best to be legitimate but I soured over and only get as crude as they are because they just immediately jump you for stating something that isn’t quite what they wanna hear or strike a actual conclusion.
On the bright side, you’ve at least haven’t gotten into that sort of issue yet, so that’s one good thing at least! Hopefully that remains.
your anecdotal evidence doesn’t change the fact this community is garbage.

I’m glad your experiences have been good so far. It seems most people in this game feel like they have something to prove and feel above everyone else. You will find that out in time (and it’s only a matter of time). We aren’t harsh on our selves, we’re harsh on the inconsequential garbage that think they are better.
