You did Arthas dirty

I truly feel like the writers’ only goal is to distance themselves from the original writers as much as humanly possible.

You have squandered more incredible stories and characters than Season 8 of GoT.

What could’ve been a potentially epic moment of Arthas being reunited with Jaina and Uther and have to be face to face with Sylvannas was reduced to…that.

I feel like you erased Arthas from Warcraft and that really makes me upset for the game. To take arguably the best story Warcraft had and flush it for Sylvannas to get some “closure” talking to a blue fart is just beyond me.

Between the Jailer retconning the entirety of the Burning Legion/Lich King and turning Sargeras, the biggest big bad in WoW, into a puppet and the destruction of Sylvannas as whole and just well…everything. It’s despicable.

My hope is 10.0 is the Undoing. Everything is wiped. We start at level 1 in our starting zones of Vanilla with updated graphics, QoLs, updated raid mechanics, updated armor and weapon textures and just a really revamped WoW. And this whole story that has been concocted gets thrown out.

there is smthn insanely screwed about sylvanas getting a redemption while blizz are spitting on arthas’ grave. the dude just had a mental break over watching his people become the living dead and, per the warcraft 3 lore, the lich king/the jailer specifically picked him out of all the mortals in all existence to drive mad and lead the scourge. with how lore is presented, arthas was damned by destiny, and he gets no chance to atone for it. meanwhile sylvanas can choose do to horrific acts with her own free will (though her soul was cleaved) and just gets to take the high horse in everything.

at least garrosh went “Screw you ill never apologize” before he exploded…

This is an opinion I’ve held for years now. I’d like the next Warcraft game to start off from where Warcraft 3 left off, not wherever WoW leaves off. Basically make WoW not canon. And take the characters in a new direction.

Not touching arthas makes perfect sense because nobody would have liked anything they would have done.

His story was already over.

^ I agree with this. They couldn’t not mention Arthas in Shadowlands, but the writers would’ve screwed him up if they had made more out of him.

Every single religion in WoW was proven wrong by the existence of ‘shadowlands’ specifically the way it’s present in this expac and it literally never gets mentioned.

An Arthas redemption story would have been badass. Putting frostmourne through his heart at the end. And taking the jailers place in the maw to atone for his deeds. At a minimum he would have been saved for later. They literally killed ursoc’s soul just to add gravity. Very poor story.

I honestly believed they were attempting to fix a Plot hole. Neat as it may sound, this would still had been the Lich King’s Older Sister.

But than again, I still believe Akaari and the Lich King entity are Siblings.
Since the expansion been concluded, I could honestly say SL been a mess…

We just got Warcraft the last Jedi. This is the exact same feeling I got from watching the god awful sequel movie…… they both Have in common awful writing and doing characters dirty.

Well, there you go. Danuser who’s responsible for the story loved this season and finds it brilliant.

To be fair, supposedly that cinematic was an add in from one really passionate developer who wanted it in there and they did it in spare time iirc.

Case in point…

looks at cinematic

I honestly like the cinematic. I don’t think the story as a whole was great-- and it’s entirely BFA’s fault.

I was fine with the first half of the cinematic. It’s the bad monologue “screw you” to Arthas while he got deleted that I find to be horrendously bad writing.

I think it’s perfectly in character though? He destroyed her city and tortured her for 3 days out of a personal grudge, then raised her as an undead and forced her to kill her own people.

And that wasn’t death magic making him do that-- wc3 makes it pretty clear that this was his personal annoyance for how long she stalled him.

So, I think that’s good writing?

She has no room to talk nor should she be giving “screw you” speeches to anyone.

No wonder books like Twilight were popular. :expressionless:

They really didn’t have to change much to make it better. Instead of Arthas being erased from existence, just get Sylvanas, Uther and Jaina to bring his soul to the arbiter. And get him sentenced to Revendreth.

She doesn’t though. He gets to not exist. She is turning herself in for and paying for her crimes. She says she became him, and that she was selfish. And that she desires to face that. There is a difference here in circumstance and character choice.

You’re mistaking “I think you don’t have a logical point in criticising something that makes perfect sense for a character to stay” with “here’s my objective opinion about something.”

I’m kind of infuriated when there’s a lot of actual inconsistencies in the lore to talk about but you’re saying “I don’t like something so it’s definitely bad and doesn’t make sense.”

Except it does make sense.

He shouldn’t just not exist. Therein lies the issue.

And she gets pardoned? LOL

It doesn’t.

We’ve canonically seen what happens to characters in the maw. They fall apart and do not exist after torture and energy siphoning. Edge of Night showed Arthas here way back at the end of WotLK.

I mean, Tyrande does under the condition that Sylvanas makes repatriations. Some of those undead nelves are still hanging around. Tyrande’s narrative was all about having to relinquish her wrath or else she gets consumed by the night warrior.

There is a big difference between “I don’t like something” and “it does not make sense.”
