I am necro-ing this post because this exact same problem is now occuring when attempting to add corruption to a pvp piece that has been upgraded with a trophy.
I have submitted multiple bug reports for this and sent in tickets (and the gm told me to submit bug reports).
I can confirm that if you socket it first (or corrupt it first) or both, and then use a trophy, you will get your desired result. If you use the trophy first, you’re screwed.
This legitimately makes no sense. On this character, I used a trophy on my main hand after I hit 2100, then I socketed it last week, today I put corruption on it.
On my alt SP, I used a trophy on it last week. It’s now telling me it cannot be modified when I try to apply a corruption effect to it. It’s hit or miss with this bug, it makes zero sense.
You absolutely CAN socket an item after you upgrade it with a Trophy, however you CANNOT socket an item that came from weekly conquest cap reward. This was told to me by a GM because I’m trying to appeal to an item I effectively wasted my 475 Trophy on.
This is bs and it’s extremely unfair for those that wasted their trophies on items acquired from the weekly conquest cap because there’s literally NO information about it anywhere. The support ticket advises us to check WoWHead for any restrictions before applying any upgrades and this is NOT part of the restrictions listed there.
Applying corruption should follow the same restriction even if it’s not listed anywhere. We now have to suffer due to Blizzard’s lack of foresight on such a terrible design. I’m trying to appeal to a ticket and I think everyone else that’s suffering from the same issue should do the same.
Have you previously cleansed the item? Because you can not of cleansed an item and put corruption on OLD items. But now if you get an item you can cleanse it.
TBH their wording was really confusing so I may be wrong, but that is to my understanding.
Maybe im missing something here. Bought a 12% haste corruption. The game says “cannot modify” on every single piece of gear I try. Even pieces of gear that never had a corruption to begin with. Also got trolled by the socket/trophy thing. My ticket response was useless as expected.
No, it never had corruption. The item doesn’t take a socket either, but I have the same exact weapon in this guy and both worked fine while doing the trophy first.
Then what is the point of conquest? Literally a pointless resource if you can’t socket any conquest cap items. Just remove this archaic system and add vendors and let you modify gear however you want. The Devs in this game are the worst.
Still have this problem today, upgraded a 465 belt with a socket on it, to a 475 belt with a socket, then I tried to corrupt the item and get the usual error “This item cannot be modified.”
Please fix I would like to have my BIS item be BIS instead of me wasting resources to end up with a useless item.
I think the issue is the order in which you do things, but I could be wrong.
I’m under the impression if you go out of order, you will get an error but…
Socket First
Corruption Second
Trophy Last
Is the order things must work. Like I said… I could be wrong, but that has always been the order I’ve done things in and not had an issue. I don’t code know much about coding… well I know nothing of it, but it sounds like there is a string of code maybe that once you do something to an item you can’t change it.
I posted this two days ago. The issue they corrected was anything that had been cleansed prior to the hotfix was uncorruptable with the consumable corruptions. If you cleansed a piece of gear regardless of when it dropped after the hotfix, you were able to corrupt it.
