So I had an electrician in today helping me sort out a problem with my house downlights. On the way out he spied a poster on the wall, saw my WoW log in screen on the PC and stopped in his tracks.
“You play World of Warcraft? I used to play it, back in Burning Crusade!”
Naturally, we had to talk I had to show him the game as it was and he left the house going…I could download it, play it at night when the wife is out…LoL
You meet 'em everywhere.
Sometimes you can take the player out of WoW, but not the game out of the player. Have to wonder if I’ll get a g’day from someone in newcomer chat sometime in the future.
I remember a few years back i was at the bakery. As I was leaving the guy said, “For the horde.” I was very confused. He pointed out that he spied my very conspicuous horde wallet, and I felt a little embarrassed.
I was driving home, and a car pulled up side me, guy hangs out the passenger window, gives me the Dio devil horns and yell “For the Horde” and drives off. I have a horde symbol on my rear windshield. Raaawwr.
I have a coworker who plays WoW, but he is my least favorite coworker. When he found out I “used” to play WoW he started talking to me nonstop about it and I have to pretend like I don’t know what he’s talking about. He asked if I might want to try MoP remix and I said no. He is not someone I want things in common with and this situation was a reminder why I keep my gaming life private.
It’s a good point, and fair enough to see things that way since privacy is something we are all entitled to.
In my case the person already knows me through work and I can hardly deny it since I had the posters on the wall in full view. However, if it ever got to be a problem (which I highly doubt since I deal with his employer) it would be easy to keep things separate. I doubt, though, that I’ll hear from him again about it and even I did, I’d set my own personal limits.
Wow and DnD isn’t a popular game in my country unlike diablo so wow have never come up in any conversation with my friends. Further more, I live in some of the rural part of my state, gaming isn’t really a popular past time.
Way back in wrath I was in line at the movies with my sisters and I was telling them an amusing story about someone in my guild when the guy behind us who had obviously been listening in spoke up, shared a few of his own stories and then started flirting with my like crazy until he suddenly asked, “Wait, you’re horde right?” And I was like, “No, I play a draenei. I like night elves too.”
The guy got this horrified look on his face, actually said, “Sorry, nevermind,” and went to the back of the line!!!
I yelled that at someone with a Horde t-shirt on at an event and they looked at me like I was an idiot. Then I had to turn around and explain it to the people I was with and I felt like one
I’ve done that to people with Horde bumper stickers too. Might have been me
