If you consider playing the game a chore, then you shouldn’t be playing the game. This is for entertainment.
No wonder so many people have canceled their subs recently. Unfortunately, it is more complicated than just that simplistic view for me.
I would not say I am obsessed with Gear.
I take it as I get it and if I don’t get it well…there is always tomorrow.
I have enough stress in my life without worrying about gear.
It’s amazing how well constructed, lengthy, and thought provoking the recent threads have been. /s
If the only reason you are playing the game is because the slot machine gave you something, and not because you actually enjoy the game play, then why are you plying the game?
The game isn’t designed for players of the alternate mindset you champion.
alternate mindset?
Ohhh yeah nah nah nah nah nah
Would love to not worry about gear, to me the gear is busywork timegate to what I want to do. Usually it is something you can bash your head into and get around, but this expansion they went full misery with it. The baseline competitive set is around ~220 ilvl. That’s where you need to get to to not get your head stomped in by people who have gotten past the gear walls by pay or infrastructure. There’s two main ways to achieve that, getting high rating or getting high io rating. Your ability to participate in these systems without significant guild infrastructure investment is greatly hindered by a wide variety of factors. Some people get through easily, some don’t. Personally I am trapped in the people who can’t pass these systems for multiple reasons group. The vast majority of their customers are in this group. They’ve created a caste system as a total replacement of a progression system. There’s not really any good reason to do this if you are assuming a good faith intention. They had some minor complaining here in times when gear was more dynamic and lesser people could eventually obtain a competitive set, but it was nothing like you see now.
There’s no good faith gameplay reason to have it be this way, there’s no good faith community appeasement reason to have it be this way, so you must lean towards a bad faith explanation. So when you look that way, the glaringly obvious hits you in the face. Activision is making record profits on WoW from selling gold direct to players. The game is suffering from an unprecedented increase in carry service advertising and an unprecedented spike in carry service pricing. The demand for these carry services is entirely and exclusively manufactured by the rating requirement to obtain a competitive ilvl.
That isn’t even the worst of the issue. The dozens of companies flooding WoW with carry services are greatly empowered to attack the system to prevent as many people from naturally passing it as possible. The very act of paid carrying people on your team tanks your matchmaking rating, so while doing 1400 matches you have about an 80% chance of getting matched up with an MMR manipulated team where 5-6 people on the enemy team are duelist geared paid carriers and the rest honor geared customers. That’s just the core example, how many hours do you have to spend getting denied for +15 groups with your low io rated non-meta spec before you want to have always been dead? There’s a financial motive for griefing that system as well.
This gear system isn’t the way it is for arbitrary reasons. It is the way it is because Bobby need him bonus and the developers are not empowered to fix it. We are being played.
What on earth are you even talking about?
You can’t play the game unless you get every handicap possible before even trying it?
What?
If you are talking about PvE. Stop. Just stop.
There is no caste system. And if you are in a guild where you are treated like some kind of second class citizen because you don’t have the “right gear”, you just need to just stop playing with jerks. Find some people who dont care (they do exist) and who just want to enjoy the content at the pace you are going at collectively.
This is NOT the game for the vast majority of players. Stop insisting that this absurd narcissistic play style is somehow the norm. It’s not.
YOU DON’T NEED ILEVEL 220 TO PLAY THE GAME SUCCESSFULLY AND HAVE FUN WHILE DOING IT.
So you’re saying there’s no reason to be upset to be stuck behind ilvl walls and that people should just be happy to be stuck at very low item levels after extreme long hours of grinding for no reward, but there’s also no caste system? You are blinded by your perspective. Reality shows itself in the unprecedented demand for carry services. Your ideals and your perspective do not trump reality. They have to design the game around reality, if you are assuming a good faith intention. The problem is, they do not have a good faith intention, and they are counting on blind people like you to carry it forward.
So… you do competitive content without gear.
I’m just gonna let this sit here for a minute.
You are not stuck or behind anything.
Thats absurd.
Hey OP do me A favor and go 1 v 1 someone with competitor gear on and tell me the outcome ?
Yep i queue up for battlegrounds just fine. Win some and i lose som. Not need to ovsess about gear. Hell i even queue up in my lower ilevel “pvp” gear when i do so (170ish)
Stop obsessing about it and just play the damn game.
Why would i 1v1 in a game thats design around group content?
Get out of here
Oh and btw it doesnt take that much effort to buy and upgrate pvp gear IF YOU ARE ALL READY PLAYING THE PVP GAME.
<== Trying to understand why OP would pretend to sabotage his pvp groups to defend an untennable position on a forum that already decided he was wrong…
Oh well, much more interesting things to do on here then read his reply… maybe theres a Bravado or Preheet post somewhere…
You get whichever ilevel wall you choose. Mythic raiders hit 220 weeks after launch and have spent months inching up to 226. My main does 10-12’s every week. I sat at 210 for 5 weeks. I’m at 216 now. People who refuse to do end game content max out at 200 and can progress through 203 tributes, 207 world boss loot, or the occasional 213 weekly reward. They can also farm gold and buy 226 boe’s from the AH. You can upgrade conduits and add sockets in the Maw.
This game is what you make of it. Your gear reflects the type of content you do. Buying carries is fine for casuals who farm gold. It’s how they want to play.
Nobody is sabotaging anying except you… in that you sabotage your own abilty to enjoy the game because of an obsession with ever increasing diminished returns in exchange for the perception that you are evening the playing field.
Yea IT does it takes group doing arenas to want to take A not geared
player into that arena with them as these players are afraid of losing rank. so yes that problem remains
