SO how does one get pvp gear without getting into pvp? What if they have no gold?

Green set ups to what 398? Bloody coins for weapons (crates + pvp quests for 1 week will get you enough for this), sparks quest takes at most 2 weeks for weaps upgrades. Conquest and Honor crom BGs. PVP gear rewards for WQs in PvP areas.
And if it ever cycles back around. The Comp Stomp brawl will take you from zero to hero in a day.

The default response is crafted pvp gear. But honestly, you can lose your way to a fullset of honor gear in a day.

Seriously, you are getting almost 1k honor each epic BG (win or lose). 40 man BG, a low iLVL nooob has little impact on end result. And they can still contribute using vehicles, or wall cannons. It’s a good time blowing up peeps from the wall cannons in IOC.
And really, any new 70, that does not have honor cap, made a choice not to PVP while leveling. Because if you pvp’d while leveling up, you would likely have enough honor to buy a full PVP set as soon as you ding 70.
I just dinged yesterday. I don’t think you need or even really should grind too much below 70 since you’re giving up on conquest but I do think enough for a couple of honor pieces when you ding is prudent along with a few greens. Two honor pieces made all the difference on the 1st character I leveled.
I keep seeing a lot of responses on this forum around the same lines of “It takes a few hours to get honor gear” or “Lose you way into honor gear”
I’m getting 247 on a normal loss and 467 on an epic loss. Not sure where you guys are getting your numbers from.
EDIT: Just checked my REflex. In my last 10 games I went 5-5 and earned 5174 Honor. 4 epics and 6 normal. Total time ~2 hours in instance. So yeah I guess that checks out.
It really is kind of devastating to see people who spent the entirety of Shadowlands in Unranked gear now finally being happy to have somebody smaller to gatekeep.

Welcome to Pug Life Little Naggas, on my alts I usually have the honor from doing a few bgs 60-70, on my resto druid I got 10k honor by level 63.
Honestly it’s not hard to gear at all, people just need to be smart about it.
You can absolutely contribute to a team as an undergeared individual as most classes. The problem people have is that they play like they have a big gear advantage. Warriors in greens open up by leaping into the enemy team and getting evaporated rather than hanging back, dropping war banner, disarming enemy melee that dive your own team, spearing them off healers, etc.
Like yeah, sometimes one team is just stacked, but individually you can be a credit to team.
Heck, just queue into epics and drive siege vehicles / cannons.
brain > stats when so many random BG players don’t have a brain.
weeklies help. And yeah, sometimes you just have really bad luck (which makes you an outlier / exception). Still, it’s only taken me at most 3 casual evenings of BGs to get full blues.

It doesn’t take long and, with some greens, I started feeling pretty good with just a couple of pieces of honor but I’ve seen some stuff, really didn’t happen until recently where it’s one team overwhelming the other side. Happens horde and alliance, I suspect it’s a team of 4 piece tier types since that should be starting to be the norm but I don’t try to figure it out I just try to play as best I can.
Having 2 pieces I feel I can hang but that I also significantly out gear my team. It’s not a significant issue yet, I lost 2 games in a row earlier and it was the 1st time in a while. I usually I get my win 1st or 2nd BG I’m just a little worried I’m seeing it more it might get worse. Maybe the 61-69 grind will be needed soon, my HPal felt good aside from being an hpal 
Speaking of 61-69. I accumulated my honor levels 63-66, when I hit 69 (right before I dinged) I ran a couple and they were terribly lopsided. I noticed they’re not scaling gear, I suspect they’re arranging by level if that’s the case since 63-66 was so much easier but it could have just been a fluke. It does make me shy away from healing regs some, when I logged earlier epics had a faster projected queue than regs.
For now, make some flasks, mana potions, stat food; a gear imbalance can be overcome in this manner at least until you grind an average gear level in the BG.
This is true (depending on map), with the exception of healers. Then, you just have to hope the other team has undergeared healing as well.

There’s definitely some truth to that.
Against most random BG teams though, even as fresh healer you can still have a significantly larger impact than no healer. Bonus points if you’ve got tools outside of raw healing like BoP or rescue. Or if you’re an especially mobile healer like monk, just kiting any melee that try to dive you through your team while they never stop targeting you and get melted.

Gear doesn’t impact heals nearly as much as dps (you can’t over dps something, but you can overheal something)
And in the current meta, it’s rare for healers to even touch shadowlands numbers
(I was hitting 15-20 mil a game in shadowlands, now games often end before I get 10)
Kind of hysterical how bad healers are in the current patch

Healing is hard even for geared healers in the game. But my comment is more about an undergeared healer’s survivability rather than healing output. Of course, you don’t heal much when sitting in a graveyard most of the match.
There just isn’t good teamfights anymore because healing is so bad, and damage/micro cc is so high
My Radiances healed more in shadowlands than they do now (LOL)
Everyone has a kick, blanket silence, and evokers can purge every hot off instantly.
I think I’ve had 2-3 30+ million healing games all xpac, and I’ve done well over 1k bgs since the launch
I’m sure you’ve faced joker and I this xpac, we’ve got a 90%+ win rate just dark arch pi’ing a huge thunderous roar go right now. It’s just unhealable damage
1 shot or be 1 shot, dragonflight really sucks lol
Do what i’ve done on every character ive made since the introduction of honor for pvp gear. Do bgs as you level hit 11k honor before you’re 70 spend 0 gold have a fresh set of gear.
