You all love to call people crybabies

Yet you can’t name a single game on the planet that goes down for 6-8 hours just to put in a patch. much less weekly for 20 years.

no game in the world does this, not even in the free game category.

This week i’m not mad though, they actually said it would be 8 hours this time, instead of 1 hour and delaying it 1 hour every hour, which is the norm.

so im happy to start sucking up to blizz again.

I don’t know what y’all are expecting here. WoW is a 20 year old game built with elastic bands, belly button lint and duct tape. I’d wager they’re still using a 2008 version of SQL as their backend database.

True… I also can’t recall many MMOs that have survived for 20 years.

Good old Duct Tape.

Back in my day, after walking up hill in the snow… we had games that never had patches… They had to be rock solid out the box on day 1. There was no internet. There was no way to patch them.

not even free games did this 20 years ago either.

nobody has asked me to do that. it’s a weird request, honestly.

I can. WoW.

Yes I can. FFXIV often has 24 hour downtime for patches, and it’s a much newer game.

We call people crybabies when they act like it. MMORPG’s with persistent worlds need frequent maintenance, it’s a fact of life. Anyone that can’t deal with this…maybe this isn’t the type of game for you.

damn forums are hot today lol

world of warcraft is NOT a complex system and does NOT have tons of concurrent players and does NOT have 20 years of development into it and i AM getting trolled

That’s only because MMO’s are dying. Investment in PC-based MMOs is at a 20-year low. Almost no new games on the horizon that seem promising. 15 years ago we have all kinds of crap coming out. 3 generations got along fine together… now a 4th has come along and here we are.

Hey if ff14 has regular 24 hour downtime then i will shut up and apologize. can anyone confirm?

Meh, nothing has changed since I’ve been gone. Second the game goes down it’s the end of the damn world.

confirmed.

Yep, but I’m still only going to complain if they extend it. This is all I’ve been asking for: For them to be honest about stuff.

All I want on the guild and warbank stuff is for them to break radio silence, yes, even if it’s to say too bad so sad it’s all gone we’re not restoring it.

Back when SWTOR actually got content on a regular basis, its patches routinely took far longer than WoW’s. WoW’s downtime on average is way lower than it was throughout Launch, BC, and Wrath, and before TWW it was remarkably low. Now it’s just kind of low.

I’m not calling anyone a crybaby, but WoW’s an engineering feat and I do marvel at what appears to me to be a loss of perspective considering not just WoW’s age, but how many more moving parts that respond to player choice and actions which this game has versus basically every other MMO ever.

You’ll notice similar-ish maintenance times to WOW, with 24+ hour maintenance for major updates.

Dawntrail had a 48 hour maintennace.

EverQuest did and still has 6+ hour down time.

Final Fantasy XIV has long down time too, they just schedule it when most western folks are asleep.

Elder Scrolls Online can go down for 9-10 hours for server maintenance or content updates.

Honestly of the modern MMORPGs only Guild Wars 2 can push content without going offline.

Didn’t they already do this? I’m not exactly sure what more you want here if a statement that it’s not going to get better was all you sought. (Though my condolences for the lost items).
