So far, months in a row, I’ve had to deal with the fact that my weekly chest, my war front reward and invasion rewards are predictably going to be the same damn item I’ve been getting all week long. It was 4 gloves in a row, then, I kid you not, 8 belts in a row, now its 4 boots in a row. All from different sources from rewards, not drops. I see this happening to others in my guild who constantly talk about it, and people have been posting about it on these forums.
Its discouraging, unfun and damn near makes me want to quit at times. The chances of this happening over and over again are so astronomically low (if truely random) that it approaches impossible, yet it does, over and over. The only way this could be happening and predictably so, would be by either a flaw in your RNG system, or you have designed it as such to stop people from progressing too fast, I dont know which is the case, but its killing my desire and I’m sure the desires of many others, to continue this exercise in futility.

I’ve gotten about 8 cloaks in a row. So I sort of have to agree with you.

Getting veiled crystals every week is pretty fun

I noticed this with a ilvl 385 ring rewarded from WQs. I got the same exact ring about 3 or 4 times in a row. Now that wouldn’t be so horrible if the stupid ring wasn’t unique.

I sincerely don’t believe it’s totally random.

I need to start paying attention honestly I take my reward straight to the scrapper most of the time.

Whether or not it’s truly random, I think we can all agree that it sucks to get the same piece of gear over and over. Why they allow this to happen is baffling.

Yea its starting to feel that way… the record for me is same ring on the Emissary quest truttles that give either a ring or trinket every time I do it it’s the same ring

Does anyone remember their “bad luck” proofing algorithm they supposedly put in way back when? Yeah I’m wondering if it’s the problem, maybe interfering or just not interacting with RNG algorithm correctly.

I’ve seen a lot of duplicates on every 120 I have (4). Not just chests either, but Emissaries and Warfront quests and basically everything. I got 5 chest pieces in a row on this toon alone.
Every toon? All the time? That’s not how statistics work. I feel like they have deliberately programmed the drops this way as a sort of internal time gating.

I got three Kul’Tiran Cannonball Runners in the same week from Heroic, Mythic, and my weekly chest back at the beginning of the expansion.
Since then, I rarely run M+ because I know that my chest is just going to troll me with something (useless) I already got that week, just at a higher ilevel.

Is it really baffling though? Is it? f the entire point of the stupid system to keep people on the gear treadmill and run up the /played time
Main issue with Ion and Blizzards current game direction is RNG on top of RNG is used as a way of extending content.
All it does is frustrate people and unless Ion is incredibly dense he knows this. I refuse to believe any human being is in that much of a bubble.
Here is a pro tip. If you need to add it to a Unsub survey then maybe it should not be in the game.

I notice it’s per character though. Like my DK is on a gloves roll. My Hunter is on a bracers streak. It is kind of statistics defying odds given all the gear slots.

The best solution is to remove the weekly cache entirely.
And emissaries and warfronts should be currency to buy a few predetermined slots of 355 and 370 gear respectively.
Reward should match difficulty and these activities are very over rewarding.

I agree with you. It is rather disheartening. I wish they had kept the token system, but then I suppose we would just get dups of the foot token for weeks on end.

That ugly cloth belt with haste/vets. I feel your pain. I went through another little era of haste/vers weapons too.

I am not the greatest fan of gear progression games, I much prefer skill progression games. But wow has gradually morphed out pretty much any form of progression but gear so we have to operate within that paradigm. That being realized, I think they need to work less of an item level model and work more towards a content model.
Doing world content rewards gear/upgrades that improve your efficiency in world content.
Doing dungeons rewards gear/upgrades that improve your efficiency in dungeons
Similar to the above with raids.
Now I realize alot of people won’t like this because they think they’ll have to carry three different sets of gear but just off the top of my head I can think of ways where could this be incorporated into one set of gear.
For instance you could attach upgrade slots (think of relics from legion artifacts) that only activate when in the proper content and also change the base visual appearance of the armor you are wearing.
Runs do happen in a purely random setting. It really should NOT be random at all imo. It wouldn’t kill them to make it give your lowest ilvl slot and guarantee an upgrade. The RNG aspect of it is designed to activate the same pathways in your brain as gambling.

Ahhhhh yes, it’s not wow if the forums aren’t complaining about RNG.
