I had just finished a VC clear. I pray the server saved where I got his head.

they don’t make enough money to handle this type of thing

You can’t really be protected against DDOS. There’s no firewall or anything for that.

Yes you can. It’s called having enough bandwidth to absorb the attack.

More people with no clue how DDOS works under the impression it can be fixed by throwing money at it.

Does this suck? Of course it does. When you’re targeted by this type of attack there is very little u can do.

The amount of bandwidth required to withstand an attack such as this would cost literally tens of millions of dollars to install and would be worthless for any situation that isnt a DDoS attack.

Its hundreds of times harder to defend against a DDoS attack than it is to do one. Orders of magnitude harder.

Why can’t people just knock it off…

No, it wouldn’t. Most peering is settlement-free (read: free). Blizzard only has 10G ports at most IXPs. Other companies who don’t get DDoS’d as easily, like Apple, have 100-600Gbps of connectivity per IXP.

Shows you where Blizzard’s priorities are.

I just got d/ced on Mankrik.

OK Mr. Know-it-all. You explain it

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Try me. I do this for a living.

But you can adjust the rate limits on the API.

That said, the server has to outright reject requests after X number, rather than just queuing all requests. It also has to be fast enough to keep up with the flood.

Yeah, they can just iniate a firewall to fix this.

That’s why DDOS is such a popular attack. Because it’s so easy to stop.

Dense.

And for those blaming Asmongold, he wasn’t on when they went down

It’s not US WoW servers being attacked anyway, it’s ISP of the servers. Most of these botnets are coming from third world countries and it’s pretty easy for Blizzard to filter them out because countries like China shouldn’t be connecting to US WoW servers anyway. Small botnet from north and south america is just not enough usually to bring WoW servers down I would guess

Nobody cares about that chipmunk faced loser.
