It’s the best type of jam ever I love strawberry jam.
Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
Oh for sure! Ive made it a couple times. Love the stuff.
Dad makes homemade blackberry jelly, seedless. Homemade jams / jellies hit diff.
No /bonk bad
I probably spelled it wrong I need to work on getting my spelling correct.
This was made by my mother first time having it.
Yeah my husband did almost the entire process. The only thing we didn’t do was grow the strawberries.
We went to a field and picked them.
Made the jam.
Then did our own canning.
It was great.
That sounds very wholesome I am happy for you both.
Yes, when I was younger I would help my grandma make all kinds of jams. It’s surprisingly easy to do and taste very good.
My neighbors, who passed away recently, were old farmers and canned their own food and made jams.
There are farmer’s markets here with authentic jams and honey too. I’ll be honest, I’m lazy and just buy Walmart brand
Jam is delicious.
But Orange Marmalade is a league above it. At least on toast.
Sorry to hear that were you good friends with them
Never heard of this what is that.
Part of my childhood was spent on an Uncle’s dairy farm in the Ozarks. I have eaten most types of homemade jams, jellies, and preserves. My favorite was my Aunt’s apple jelly from her own apples.
Indeed - we’re going strawberry picking in a week or two… gonna make jam!
My grandmother would make a strawberry and huckleberry jam that was beyond words. I would put it on anything.
It’s a sweet/tart orange jam made with bits of orange peel. It’s one of my favs too
Since a few years ago when I moved back to a rural area close to where I grew up and have little bit of land, I’ve been making some of the same jams, jellies, and preserves like my grandparents used to make. I make gooseberry, black raspberry, and elderberry jams (I grow the gooseberies and elderberries, but I pick wild black raspberries, which there a lot on my property…I need to pick them this week, actually). Strawberry preserves (I get these from the Amish 'cause I have poor luck with growing them). And, I make pear jelly and apple jelly, both of which I get from my parent’s trees (Bosc pears and Newton-Pippen apples; my parents live now where my great-grandparents lived, who had originally planted the small orchard when they immigrated here from Inverness). I love me some apple jelly and apple butter (I haven’t made any of that in few years, though). I also get a lot of black walnuts from my parents, since they have a grove of those that produce a lot of nuts, with the oldest ones being planted in the late 1890s. I get all of those I want, since mom’s allergic.
I have a friend that stayed around here and never moved away, and he raises bees and grows a wider variety of fruit (currants, figs, others), making stuff like paw paw jam, which is nice; I hadn’t seen a paw paw tree in probably 35 years, so that was nice surprise when he said he had some. He grows some heritage grapes, for wine, which I can’t drink, but I’m going to try to see if he’ll sell me some to make some jelly from.
I love gooseberries and hickory nuts. Two things you almost never see commercially and can only get by either growing them yourself or knowing someone who does.
I love strawberry jam! I’ve only had it homemade once. I should make some again soon though, it feels like a very summery thing to do
It’s so good I feel ashamed of not finishing it
