I think this is a really dumb comment. Im on a pve server with ally bias. Why should be punished because pvp hordes needed huge faction bias to feel safe and strong?
Part of the long horde queues is from faction-imbalance, but most is because alliance pugs quit since alliance pugs lose 99% of the time. And no, they aren’t losing because of horde racials.
Horde pugs get at least half as much honor per hour as the premades/tryhards. So horde pugs continue to queue. Alliance pugs get like 1/20th as much honor as premades, so playing is pointless, and losing every game to a horde turtle isn’t fun.
The key to fixing horde queue times is to make the alliance who gave up on PvP want to queue again.
The reason this recent “fix” won’t work, is because it doesn’t narrow the gap between premades and pugs, and alliance are losing more than ever. The high-end premades just went to WSG and are doing fine, but the low-end premades can’t compete in WSG, so now they have nothing.
For alliance, you can’t play WSG because of the high-end premades. And you can’t play AV because you can’t win. So why play at all?
I’m aware. I was making an intentionally and preemptive obtuse comment in case pro-crossrealmers try the whole “welll servers are going to be imbalanced anyways! Let’s continue to make it worse by using CRBGs!”
But yes, remove cross realms may worsen the queues for some, and improve queues for others. HOWEVER, removing cross realms will help server health
Crossrealms exist so that people on low-pop servers can actually play BG’s.
When I played Vanilla in 2005, AV pretty much never popped on my server. The only BG that popped was WSG, and it didn’t pop during off-peak.
Moreover, the PvP gear in Vanilla was originally at MC-level, then was buffed to be equal to BWL gear. So you can think of Vanilla PvP gear as being basically “Season 1” prebuffed, and “Season 2” buffed. But there was no Season 3 or Season 4 PvP gear for AQ/Naxx, so ranking was largely pointless towards the end, and BG’s pretty much stopped popping altogether.
I think during offpeak the number of AV’s is already dropping to like 20-30, but there are 36 different servers in the CRBG queues. That means during offpeak there is less than 1 AV per server. Which means on the smaller servers there would be no AV’s going at all most of the time.
CRBG’s should be used only as a fallback for low-pop servers and during offpeak or where AV/WSG aren’t popping in a reasonable amount of time. A server that doesn’t need CRBG’s shouldn’t have them.
I think that is a fair compromise.
They should make Battlegroups. Large mega servers like Herod, Faerlina etc. should only have one server in their battle “group” (which is themselves). However, lower pop and or even medium pop servers can be grouped together.
Also, I say NO to having low off-hour queues. This promotes AFK botting or account sharing.
Agreed. Now it’s premades 90% of the game that stomp us in WSG with an alli community who refuses to play AV w/o a premade.
All they needed to do was implement what I made several posts about, “same-server priority matchmaking”.
Basically, everyone who queues up on Wildhammer gets pushed together like a premade into the CRBG queue, and then it matches the same number of Alliance to Horde from Wildhammer.
If there is a full 40, then they’ll never see people from other servers. If there were two servers with 20 people each, then the game would consist of only two servers. That way most games would be people from either the same server, or from 2-3 servers. Instead of pretty much 1 person from every server.
The big multi-Warlord/Field Marshal groups are all premades from the same realm.
Cross realm doesn’t really cause this; larger server populations causes this.
Of course it causes this. The person on the low pop server wouldnt even face these kinds of teams if cross realm didnt exist
“Low” pop realms on Classic are already several times larger than vanilla realms. If not a full team of Warlords or Field Marshals, you’d be facing Lieutenant Generals to Generals/Lieutenant-Commanders to Commanders, and a couple Warlords/Field Marshals.
Instead of facing different teams of mostly high ranks, you’d be facing the same team of mostly high ranks over and over.
“Low” can be anywhere from 0 to whatever the cutoff for medium is.
So a “low” pop server can still be somewhere close to 0.
But anyways, I’m sure the OP didnt mean it literally when he said that all teams are rank 14 teams. Moreso that they are in the rank 11-14 range. on low pop servers, you might have 1 or 2 teams like that, whereas on cross realm you can literally be matched with every other server’s A team
Field Marshal/Warlord isn’t rank 14.
Which would still be the case. There’s just a higher percentage of the premade at rank 13 because there are more bracket 1 slots in Classic due to higher realm populations.
Naa, even the biggest servers are only hitting 6k peaks now. They were at 10k+ when the game launched.
When I looked up server populations in 2006, my medium-sized server peaked at over 2k(was like 1500 alliance and 700 horde). The bigger servers were like 2k per faction.
There are at least a dozen Classic servers that are smaller than my medium-sized vanilla server.
Well I assume not, since the OP specifically mentioned warlord (r13) and Marshal (r12) groups.
I hope you know the OP didnt mean LITERAL groups of rank 14s since that’d be impossible. I took his lament as generally meaning “High ranked” teams but just communicated differently.
Essentially, stop being pedantic. It’s clear what the OPs issues are and why he believes cross realm are the source of said issues
It is objective fact the realm populations are higher in Classic than in vanilla. Not sure what else to tell you.
You even prove my point in your post. 6k concurrent logins at peak times is vastly more people than 2k per faction total.
Again…
I’m not being pedantic. You just can’t read.
No. Re read the OP’s post again. He never used the word “High Warlord” “grand Marshal” or “Rank 14”
So nitpicking OP’s choice of words doesnt help you at all
Nor did I. Learn to read.
Then why choose to respond then? The issue is clearly “OP doesnt want to fight another server’s A team”
Again… learn. to. read.
There are 36 servers in Classic. Of those 36 servers, less than half are bigger than the biggest vanilla servers. And they aren’t “several times larger” like you claim, not even twice as big.
They often seem bigger because of the extreme faction-imbalance, and because there is a higher percentage of level 60’s, raiders, and pvp’ers.
