XP reduction option for leveling

Honestly after leveling an alt in retail and leveling in for the first time in classic, I really would love the ability to optionally reduce the XP I gain in retail by incriments of 25% at that npc in the faction capitals. Like give us 4 options, - 25%, - 50%, - 75%, and off. I’d love to just re-quest through all of the old content in order again. I no longer raid at the top level and I’ve always loved adventuring in this game it would be nice if I had the option to turn off the race to max level when I want to.

Could just turn xp off?

Yeah but that is not the point. And it just turns off XP. I still want the feeling of progression just optionally slower.

Honestly OP had a good idea. Leveling in retail now is much too fast. And I get why that is and that’s fine for those who wanna do that. But there is a subset of users that would like an option to actually do more than 25% of an expac before getting booted into the current expac. And no, I don’t mean coming back to one-shot everything after.

Edit: To clarify for some of you, we are talking about the rate of xp. Not switching it off entirely.

Move the “feeling of progression” to finishing zones not your XP bar. If you want to slow down XP then you want to do more content and finish zones. So just turn it off and shift the goal post.

You do you.

I just feel like that is such a small niche demographic with a workaround available that it will be a tough sell.

Can easily rotate it on/off.

I still find it much too slow.

But they can. There are tools in game to allow a person to do that…right now.

But that mean blitzing through 5 or so levels, going to my faction capital, turning off exp gain, going back and doing ~60% of the pack, then going back and turning it on again, rinse and repeat. That’s a lot of meaningless busywork that eliminates the feeling of progression

Classic is from 20 years ago where most of the content is leveling

Most of the content is still leveling though? It’s only in the latest xpack where more is relevant than leveling. I don’t want to rush through the leveling. I don’t care that the option to turn off exp gains is there as that defeats the purpose of what I, and I’m sure many others want.

No its not , you can lvl from 1- 70 in a few days, content right now is M+ , Raids and PvP

But most of the content available is questing content, I don’t want to rush through it all. I want the option to reduce the exp I gain, not shut it off, so I don’t skip all of the quests and stories from the game. I could take my time and quest on a character and just enjoy the game instead of making it all about endgame. I don’t see the problem here and I don’t understand the arguments against the, let’s face it, extremely simple and 100% optional reduction I am suggesting.

Like honestly it would probably take a dev half an hour at most to put this in.

I mean what you do with it is up to you, im just telling you whats up to date content there is today

Again I’m aware that the up to date content is there. I just wanna experience most of the vast amounts of what’s available without doing half an xpack and getting to 60 just to do dragonflight again. With chromie, and an addition of an optional reduction is exp gain would encourage, not force, players to experience older content when leveling.

Could even add in a cosmetic set of a recolor of a raid tier, or a dungeon set from the expansions that you completed with exp reduction on as well. I just want the reduction option though, cosmetics aren’t a major thing it would just be nice and a reward to incentivise that.

There isn’t though. There is only on or off. Nothing to continue to level up at a slower pace which is what we’re talking about here.

My response was to this statement.

Well i dont think you can replay the whole entire expansion leveling zones, its not classic versions Chromie is just to help you lvl not to replay expansions

What’s the issue with just stopping say at 58?

Even if expansions did take longer through an experience reduction the mobs would scale either way.

Except you totally can. All old zones scale with chromie time. Sure the enemies will scale with you but the optional exp reduction would allow you the time to fully complete the expansions leveling zones.
And yeah it won’t be vanilla. It’ll only be bc forward. Which is totally fine with me. I just want to level through it all if I choose to.

I disagree that the current speed is too fast, but I do agree with the OP. Give people the option on how much experience they want to gain to level to give them the option to how fast they want to level.

I mean you would hit 60 before finishing all zones tho
